Field Office 2010 Software Suite Overview

Linking existing systems with new technology

The suite provides integration between real-time data and rigorous engineering algorithms for proactive problem detection and resolution management. Simply stated, operation’s and engineering’s ultimate goal is the same–greater production while controlling costs. Shrinking resources demand that these goals be achieved in the shortest possible time frame using the most efficient work flows. The integration through data and application sharing creates an efficient way of reaching that goal. Field Office software components include the specific tasks to reach that goal from both the operations and the engineering perspectives.

The open system interacts with applications such as reservoir simulation, production allocation, and data historians. It coexists or replaces with nodal analysis, well test analysis, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), production surveillance, and pressure transient applications. Its unique solutions such as lift optimization, full-field optimization, and real-time operations share data and information with the other applications.

Weatherford has a firm commitment to providing connectivity to your current investments. The Field Office 2010 suite helps the organization standardize work flows by communally tracking tasks with a common interface. Enabling worldwide access to data, the software provides unifying tools across multiple domains, and shared interfaces reduce new technology adoption time. The standard platform can be used across multiple asset types, and there is a seamless integration between the tools and existing systems resulting in lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

The application uses open standards to assure that existing hardware and software tools can be incorporated into a comprehensive production optimization solution. The suite incorporates various mechanisms such as web services/production markup language (ProdML) for data integration, object-linking and embedding (OLE) for process controls (OPC) to access real-time systems, and it has the ability to connect to reservoir modeling tools and other engineering applications directly.

WSM 2010 well service manager

During production, wells that are down need immediate attention to reverse lost revenue back to production. Every hour, day, or days that a well waits for a rig repair is a liability so operators need to find ways to bring wells online as fast as possible. Adding more rigs to a field operation is not always the answer. Without an organized way of administering additional rigs, you can end up with more downtime for your resources. Getting production started faster after a well installation or repair requires having the precise assets ready for each job at the appropriate time. Rigs waiting on materials to arrive or a high priority well waiting for a rig are both detrimental to starting wells in a timely manner.

The WSM module in LOWIS software provides an efficient way to gather and store well information for effectively managing all well activities and the assets used for those events. The applications that make up this program present you with the ability to track, view, and manage drilling and well intervention jobs in an organized way that allows you to make better decisions regarding resource usage, well prioritization, and allocation of operational funds. With WSM software, you get more from your assets and can be confident when it is time to make additions because you have the information needed to effectively use your resources.

PVTflex 2010 fluid property analysis

PVTflex software allows engineers to build fully compositional fluid PVT models. These models form the foundation of all integrated production optimization studies–from individual well to full field optimization. This equation of state (EoS) based application provides far more accurate gas/oil/water phase predictions than the traditional black oil PVT correlations. Furthermore, the compositional PVT predicts the correct phase behavior for condensates and volatile oil fluids, for which very few correlations are available. This application helps engineers in pre-processing reservoir fluid data for efficient handling in the production optimization software as well as tuning the EoS model using laboratory experimental data on the reservoir fluids. The wizard-based graphic user interface coupled with a wide selection of models and tuning options enable users to enter and analyze the data swiftly.

RigPlan 2010 resource scheduling

Weatherford’s RigPlan desktop scheduling tool provides the visualization and control needed to assure that rigs and assets are effectively used. The user interface provides a multi-level calendar that displays where each rig is currently working, its expected completion time, and the time frame for the next scheduled job.

Times are updated based on input from the WSM application in the Field Office suite. If a job is running long, the user can see the effect it will have on future jobs and allows rescheduling to better use rigs to avoid unnecessary downtime. The application provides more than just a calendar of scheduled events. Operators using RigPlan software can take advantage of opportunistic scheduling, meaning that if there is an opening in the schedule a rig can be rescheduled to a job in proximity even though it may not be the highest priority job in the queue. It allows the operator to take other factors into consideration such as location of nearby rig and expected time to complete the task verses travel time to a different task. This allows all the rigs to be used optimally rather than just executing jobs in the original priority order.

WellSavvy 2010 artificial lift real-time diagnostics

As real-time data monitoring expands in detail and purpose, the need to properly store, organize, and analyze large amounts of data in an effective way expands exponentially. Merely adding more analysis programs does not provide what well engineers need to operate more effectively. They require an optimization tool to perform a detailed analysis of wells in a reasonable time using all available data. That is where WellSavvy software is invaluable. It offers the ability to identify non-obvious trends in large amounts of data based on prior observations–much like a production optimization expert would do in real life. WellSavvy software uses real-time and historical data to derive problem solving scenarios and their relative probable accuracy much like a “digital engineer.” The result is hundreds or even thousands of wells analyzed accurately in seconds, even when data is incomplete or partially inaccurate.

What is new for version 2010?

Features BenefitsAutomated system analysis and economic • calculationsAutomated identification of root cause of under • performance through pattern recognition and associative memoryAutomated recommendations for corrective • actions

RMS 2010 reservoir monitoring system

RMS is highly flexible, scalable data acquisition software that supports Weatherford’s production optimization–reservoir monitoring optical sensing and electronic gauge product lines. RMS software is a combination of embedded software implemented on custom electronic subsystems and application software that is executed on field-hardened Intel computers running a Microsoft Windows operating system. The design approach uses high-level components of Weatherford’s RMS system for optical sensing systems. A similar architecture supports electronic gauge systems and combined optical sensing and electronic gauge systems.

A two-tier architecture fully enables the separation of the data collection activities from the delivery of the results to the acquisition systems. Embedded software resides on the digital signal processor (DSP) of the

optical interrogator. The data collection engine (DCE) running on the instrument computer manages the data acquisition process and schedules signal processing algorithms to compute pressure and temperature. The algorithm manager manages the execution of these calculations. Reliable operation of these devices is ensured by Weatherford Launcher, a design component capable of self-health diagnosis and autonomous failure recovery.

PanQL real-time pressure transient analysis is a subset of PanSystem software that has been implemented in the RMS application. It is a software application that will allow a transient analysis quick look at unscheduled buildups from wellhead or downhole gauge data and will email the results to the reservoir engineer. The quick-look analysis is triggered when a shut-in is detected and the pressure change and duration constitutes a valid data set for interpretation. This is determined by a smart acquisition routine based on defined parameters.A synopsis of the results is then sent to the reservoir engineer via email. If the reservoir engineer wishes to further investigate the quick look, he or she may log in to the system via a web interface, look at the plots with results, and determine whether or not to download raw data or a wavelet reduced data set for in-depth investigation.Data calculated; k, S, P* - are graphed to show changing trends in the well over time

k = the estimated permeability of the formation• S = skin factor, the wellbore damage estimated • from the calculated permeabilityP* (Horner method) = the extrapolated formation • static pressure (estimated)

How does this tool help improve job performance?

Operators Increasingly, operators are using extensive communication networks to manage the data obtained from oilfield operations. RMS software is implemented using COM/DCOM (distributed component object model) technology which allows software components to communicate. Through the use of this technology RMS software enables system administration, maintenance, and reliable data access over a local area network or modem. Client software utilities support basic configuration and diagnostic tasks from remote locations.
