Switchboard OverheatingOverheating is one of the largest causes of failure in critical switchboards components such as Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCBs) and Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs). Modern circuit protection is provided by digital, microprocessor based overcurrent relays which are operated by measuring current flow, not heat. Therefore, abnormal heating caused by loose connection bolts, ventilation failure or worn contacts are usually left undetected by conventional circuit protection devices. This abnormal heating can lead to pre-mature failure of switchgear and also constitutes a potential fire hazard.
NHP 3C Over Temperature Monitoring SystemTo compliment the 3C over temperature protection within the Terasaki ACBs and extend the level of monitoring areas of your switchboard - such as busbar zones, outgoing circuit switchgear like MCCBs, large motor terminals and windings – the FTX over temperature monitoring modules can be used.
These DIN rail mounted modules are installed within a switchboard control cubical and are connected directly to the busbar or switchgear terminals by a non-conductive fibre optic probe that is terminated with a special lug. The temperature is measured by pulsing a laser down a fibre optic cable causing a phosphor dot within the lug to glow. The module then measures the decay rate of the phosphor glow and calculates the temperature.
Reporting of measured temperatures in real time for preventative maintained is achieved over the integrated Modbus RTU interface. BAS, BMS, SCADA, or cloud-based monitoring packages like InfoSyte from NHP, can readily interrogate the FTX module.
FTX-602 PWR+ Over Temperature Monitoring ModuleEach FTX module accepts six fibre optic sensors for convenient 2x three-phase monitoring of potential hot spots. Multiple modules can be connected in series on a standard 35mm DIN rail with power and RS-485 connections supplied.
