The Siemon Engineering team

had three primary goals for

our MT-RJ solution — provide

the best possible product,

make it installer-friendly, and

ensure compatibility with as

many existing Siemon products

as possible.

Our connector design provides high performance and quick

installation time. Siemon MT-RJ connectors have factory

polished stubs — just prep the fiber, insert into the connector

and crimp to complete the termination. Our R&D lab spent

many hours validating the performance of the connector prior

to release to ensure it consistently yields superior insertion loss

numbers, typically 0.30 dB. The feedback from our customers

has been very positive on the connector’s reliability,

performance and ease of use.

We also realized from the start that the MT-RJ would be very

popular for fiber-to-the-desk applications. However, customer

feedback told us that people did not want to use bulky

faceplates or “fiber-only” work area mounting solutions. With

that in mind, we designed our MT-RJ adapters to be compatible

with nearly all of our work area products. Siemon MT-RJ

adapters fit right alongside our copper outlets in our existing

faceplates, surface mount boxes and more.

We’re still continuing to expand our MT-RJ product line as

well. We completed the release of our 50/125µm MT-RJ

products last year and this year we introduced new, higher

density adapter plates. Our 12-adapter plate (24-ports) doubles

the density of the solution we offered last year. Our team isn’t

done yet. Look for additional improvements and fiber products

from us in the future.

FIBER STORAGE CENTER

The Siemon 3 RMS rack mount Fiber Storage Center (FSC) is typically utilized in tandemwith a Rack Mount Interconnect Center (RIC). Fiber jumpers exiting the front of the RICare routed into the FSC to store slack. The fiber management is simple but effective, andis mounted on a tray that slides out the front for easy access to the storage area.

SWIC3 HIGHLIGHTSThe Wall Mount Interconnect Center (SWIC3) is a cost-effective fiber

enclosure designed to manage and connect up to 96 fibers. The low-profile,

compact design makes it ideal for telecommunications closets or other

installation areas where wall space is at a premium. The adapter mounting

method is standardized via the utilization of the same snap-in Quick-Pack™

adapter plates used in our family of Rack Mount Interconnect Centers (RICs).

This year all Siemon fiber enclosures, including the SWIC3, have been

modified to accept just flat Quick-Pack™ adapter plates, simplifying ordering

and eliminating the need to stock two different types of plates.

SNAP-IN ADAPTER PLATESUtilizes same Quick-Pack™ adapterplates as RIC enclosures withintegrated latches for snap-ininstallation and one fingerremoval.

DUAL-LEVEL FIBER MANAGERSIncorporates two independentlevels of storage to enable thefiber to be routed at levels thatcorrespond to the adapters.

The Mini-SWIC3 enables the economical interconnection of fiber in locations where wall space islimited while still providing many of the popular, installer-friendly features of the SWIC3. By acceptingtwo flat Quick-Pack™ adapter plates, the MINI-SWIC3 can accommodate from 6–48 fibers. BEND RADIUS GUIDE

For use in Siemon fiber enclosures, the Bend Radius Guide (BRG2) maintains optimalfiber bend radius. No tools are required for installation. The BRG2 locks into the bottomof Siemon enclosures via a quarter-turn post on the base. The BRG2 is divided into twosections for independent management of multiple fibers. It can also be stacked usingquarter-turn post to provide additional management options.

COMPRESSION FITTINGS

PLUG AND PLAY REEL AND EXTENDER SYSTEM

The cable for the Plug and Play system is provided on cable reels with 6- or 12-fiber MPOconnectors on each end. The cable is available in 50/125µm or 62.5/125µm multimode risergrade fiber cable and can be ordered in any length. A cable pulling eye on one end protectsthe fiber during installation and facilitates fast installation. Cable extenders are also availableto add onto existing Plug and Play reels and include an adapter to join the extender to thecable reel.

ST AND SC CONNECTORS

Siemon ST and SC connectors are designed for use with a variety of termination methods…epoxy, anaerobic adhesives, and Siemon’s exclusiveLightSpeed™ adhesive system. LightSpeed™ is faster, more user-friendly, more secure, and more resistant to environmental extremes than the commonlyused anaerobic adhesives. Time to terminate a Siemon ST or SC connector using the LightSpeed™ adhesive system and Siemon’s Automated FiberPolisher (FPOL) is less than 2 minutes per end!

The precision zirconia ceramic ferrules utilized in ST and SC multimode connectors enable a typical insertion loss performance of 0.5dB, using amanual polishing method, or 0.2dB using the Automated Fiber Polisher (FPOL). Singlemode connectors typically achieve 0.3dB insertion loss and40dB return loss using a simple manual polishing method.

ST CONNECTORS

The ST connector employs a rugged metal bayonet coupling ring with radial ramps which facilitate engage-ment to the studs of the mating adapter. Two ST connectors are available for jacketed fiber, one with a beigeboot and one with a black boot. The two colors enable easy identification of the fibers when terminating indi-vidual connectors to form a duplex jumper. A connector for buffered fiber is also available as well as a connec-tor that includes all the components required to terminate either jacketed or buffered fiber.

SC SIMPLEX CONNECTORS

SC simplex connectors employ an outer housing that is color-coded in accordance with TIA/EIA-568-A and ISO/IEC 11801 requirements (beige for multimode and blue for singlemode).

SC DUPLEX CONNECTORS

Duplex SC connectors have been enhanced with new user-friendly features. SC connectors now have aduplexing clip, which allows each connector to be removed individually. In the event fiber polarity isreversed during termination, there’s no need to discard the connector. Simply remove connectors from theclip and switch to correct the mistake, saving valuable installation time and money. The duplexing clip alsospeeds troubleshooting. In the event there’s a fault with a single connection, an individual connector canbe removed from the clip and re-terminated without disturbing the adjacent connector.

The Siemon Company’s Automated Fiber Polisher (FPOL) is designed to perform a high-quality polish injust 15 seconds (7.5 seconds per connector), reducing polishing time by 66% for two ST, SC, or FCmultimode connectors. Even with the increased speed in polishing time, the insertion loss is typically0.2dB or less. The FPOL is compact, lightweight, portable, and can complete a minimum of 250 polishingcycles (500 connectors) using a standard 9V alkaline battery (AC adapter also included).
