Training and Travel Bursaries

The Training & Travel bursaries have been designed to enhance the skills and knowledge base of cultural exhibitors in the South East (defined as Berkshire, East Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey, West Sussex). This is particularly important as many film exhibitors are under-resourced and professional development can be expensive.

Members of Film Hub South East (FHSE) may apply for bursaries that will serve as a contribution towards course fees, accreditation, and associated travel and accommodation costs.

OBJECTIVES

To provide access to training and professional development opportunities. To increase networking and sector knowledge in British, independent and specialised film. To develop a skilled film exhibition sector in areas such as audience development, curation,

special event planning (Cinema+), digital technology, business skills, marketing and social media.

To increase representation of people of different sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, colour, gender, ethnicity and socio-economic status within the film exhibition sector.

ELIGIBILITY & CONDITIONS

The following conditions apply:

Applications to this fund must be made a minimum of 6 weeks prior to the start date of the event/activity you wish to attend. If you are offered an opportunity with a short turnaround time please contact us to discuss prior to submitting your application.

Retrospective applications for activities that have already taken place or where tickets, hotels etc… have been paid for will not be accepted.

Only two individuals per member organisation can apply for a bursary to attend the same event/activity.

Applicants can apply for a minimum of £50 and a maximum of £500 (both inclusive of VAT) that can be used for up to 100% of the course fees/accreditation costs and 100% of travel and accommodation.

Member organisations have a cap of £750 a year (this can be split across a number of applications from its individual members of staff and/or volunteers). For example, if an applicant is awarded a bursary of £500, the maximum bursary available to other staff/ volunteers from that organisation would be £250. Please discuss all applications with your colleagues prior to submitting to avoid any confusion or disappointment.

Cinema Incentive Scheme members and members of young programmers groups may qualify for additional funding beyond the £750 per member organisation. Please speak to FHSE before applying.

This fund cannot support individuals who have access to funds for continuing professional development from other sources.

Please note that there is a high demand for our grants and, inevitably, there is a finite amount of money to go around. We will therefore give preference to applications from underrepresented groups in the sector, and then new applicants and first-time attendees.

flights – economy rates only bus/rail travel – standard class fares only car travel – 45p per mile. Mileage can only be claimed if your vehicle has business cover as

part of your insurance. Proof of insurance must be supplied with your TS5 claim form. taxis - will be covered for short trips only if no alternative public transport is available. parking - can be claimed for the duration of the event/activity
