Hands of Love

Who are we?

Hands of love is non-profit Organisation focused on youth teen girls and old adults.

We provide assistance to low-income children and families.

Aim of the Organisation is to guide the girl child into womanhood. The youngsters are exposed to alcohol and crime. Our hope is to steer them away from these activities by guiding them to better brighter future which result into capable adults who can contribute positively to the society.

These young generations need role models to aspire to; the township life exposes them to a lot of illicit activities which results in school drop outs and teenage pregnancy. Poverty township communities play a major in shaping the tomorrow of these young people. Poverty impacts children within their various contexts at home, in school, and in their neighborhoods and communities. 

Why

child care and lack of access to health care with unsafe neighborhoods, and under resourced schools which adversely impact our nation’s children. 

Hands of love vision are to mentor and coach these girls in order to influence their thinking and plant seeds of hope. South Africa’s tomorrow lies on the hands of these young stars and if not properly developed we miss out on the leaders, doctors and presidents of tomorrow.

Unsupervised and uncared teens are at greater risk for several negative outcomes such as poor academic achievement, school dropout, abuse and neglect, behavioral and socioemotional problems, physical health problems, and developmental delays. 

Unsafe neighbourhoods expose low-income children to violence early sexual engagement which can cause a number of psychosocial difficulties. Violence exposure can also predict future violent behavior in youth which places them at greater risk of injury and mortality and entry into the juvenile justice system. We help teens make better choices with their lives.

Hand of Love goal is to cover the gap by giving love to these girls’ teen children and offer the support and love they normally don’t find at home. We motivate and encourage them to use their environment as push to work hard so they can be notable figures in the future who can come and give back to the society in the same way that hands of love is giving to them.

How

Alcohol and Peer pressure has a particularly adverse effect on the academic outcomes of children, especially during early childhood. The dropout rate of students living in low-income families is about four and one-half times greater than the rate of children from higher-income families. Hands of love objective are to ensure that there is 90% success in school completion; we aim to reduce the drop outs one child at time.

We use different strategies and approaches to engage the girls and excite them about school and tertiary. We run different program catering for different ages which are aimed at catering for needs of these girls. Older girls in grade 11 and 12 are assisted with college and university applications. Programs are defined in detail below.

We make the classes and activity fun in order and secure in order to gain their trust so they can open up and discuss their concerns and frustrations they encounter in life.

Children living in the townships are at greater risk of behavioral and emotional problems. Hands of love seek to mend those behavioral problems by reaching

out to the children at their level and show compassion for their needs and worries. Some behavioural problems may include impulsiveness, difficulty getting along with peers, aggression; some emotional problems experienced are feelings of anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. Hand of love creates a “safety net” for children and families that provide real protection against the harmful effects of teenage pressure and suicide. We aim to eliminate barriers such as limitations to higher education etc. Hands of Love Intervenes in early childhood to support teenagers who are still finding their identity and make poor choices. We help and assist them in making positive wise choices for their future.

Peer pressure affects everything in the teen’s life; from appearance and even your chances at attending college. Teen pressure takes advantage of the most vulnerable people. It feeds on the weak and the lonely. Our nation needs to take the necessary precautions for avoiding these pressures. Even the simplest things giving a hug or smiling impact in them in a big way. Let’s work together to help decrease the number of drop out and teenage pregnancy.

Sanitary Supplies Research and Development

Conduct research to keep up-to-speed with the educational status of adolescent girls in rural areas and also establish the challenges they face to inform solutions prescribed.

Donations

Hands of love Donates Sanitary towels to the girls in the program , some families cannot afford the needs of young women therefore hands of love provide these sanitary towels to the girls.

We also provide snack food and drink during the program.

HANDS OF LOVE FOR THE OLDWhy we show love

Many seniors in townships are being abuse and harmed in some substantial way often by people who are directly responsible for their care.

As elders become more physically frail, they’re less able to stand up to bullying and or fight back if attacked. They may not see or hear as well or think as clearly as they used to, leaving openings for unscrupulous people to take advantage of them. Mental or physical ailments may make them more trying companions for the people who live with them.

With the high rate of unemployment in townships elderly seniors are taken advantage of, their subtle to robbery especially on government pay dates. The grandchildren who live with them take advantage of their government pension money.

Reports show that of abuse against elderly South African reach police every year, and thousands cases go unreported.

Abuse tends to take place where the senior lives most often in the home where abusers are often adult children, other family members such as grandchildren, or spouses/partners of elders. Abuse of elder’s in town takes many different forms, some involving intimidation or threats against the elderly, some involving neglect, and others involving financial fraud.

Physical elder abuse includes not only physical assaults such as hitting or shoving but the inappropriate use of drugs, restraints, or confinement. Some elderly in township are emotionally and or psychological abused most people

speak to or treat elderly persons in ways that cause emotional pain or distress. Old people in disadvantaged communities are intimidated through yelling or threats, Humiliation and ridicule, Habitual blaming or scapegoating mostly by the grandchildren they take care of through government subsidy.

Most elderly are Ignored and Isolated. Their funds are misused and stolen. Majority of them do not receive the healthcare their medical conditions are in turmoil due to the circumstances they live under and prone to illnesses which are never threated. As result they show symptoms of dementia or signs of frailty—and they show mental deterioration, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve love.

How we show love

Any older adult deserves dignity and respect Hands of love seeks to intervene in such ill treatment of the elderly. We may not be able to take them out of their situation but our program aims to reduce this social isolation they are experiencing. We bring all adults together on a weekend with the aim to make them forget all their troubles and illnesses.

Because nurturing is our passion the program offered by hands of loves focus on three dimensions. Physically, mentally and emotionally. We understand seniors do not move much because of their age hence the high rate of illnesses.

Our physical program focuses on giving the adult fun. We design the program to make the feel young and able. In the first session of the program the adult engage in exercise activities which force them to loosen up and be jolly. Our exercises are not of high level but rather tough enough to make them sweat whilst having fun. The second part of the session is fun physical games they use to play when they were young, this session also incorporate music with dancing. They dance till they drop. We Entertain. They deserve it after working very hard in their lifetime.

The idea is to show the seniors that age is a number they are still capable. Most of them enjoy this session especially because it reminds them of their golden young days. The day is focused on having fun and forgetting about family and life troubles just for the day and we pour love into their lives. The smiles they

share and laughter during these sessions are priceless even the ones walking sticks take on challenges. They walk out physically stronger.

The 2nd session of the program focuses on body nurturing for seniors. Most of the seniors cannot afford massage parlours and pampering themselves. Therefore Hands of love brings a massage parlour to them. We massage all the adults with hand held massage machinery. We do foot massage, neck, hands and head massages which leave them feeling revived and cared for. We cut their nails and have stalls for nail polishing for the young vibrant fresh ladies.

After all the exercising, dancing and massages we offer tea/coffee and biscuits for the adults. We end the session in prayer thanking the lord for pouring his love over all of them.
