    January 2012 FFSC Event

Are you one of the millions of Americans thismonth that will make a New Years resolution?

There are many ways to maintain youroptimism and keep your resolution this timearound. Statistics show that there are two mainreasons why people dont stick to theirresolutions: They set unreasonable goals orthey dont make a plan for reaching their goals.Below youll find practical tips for making NewYears resolutions and sticking with them.

Make realistic resolutions. This means resolving to do something (or notto do something) that is actually under yourcontrol.

Dont make too many resolutions. Many people make long lists of things they willdo differently. Limit yourself to one or twosincere, realistic resolutions.

Be specific.Vague resolutions like, Im going to loseweight, are hard to keep. If you set a morespecific goal, like losing five pounds beforeMarch 1st, youll be more likely to succeed.

Come up with a plan for reaching yourresolutions.

Resolving to do something is just the first step. The second step is deciding howyoull do it.Youre going to need a plan.

Write it down. Research shows that peoplewho commit their goals to paper are muchmore likely to achieve them. Write down yourresolution and stick it to your fridge, computer,or other prominent place.Recruit support.Tell friends and family members about yourresolution and ask them to help you meet yourgoals. Its good for support, but also the more

people who know about your change; the moreaccountable youll be to others.

    Keep Your New Years Resolution

Forgive yourself if you slip up.Most New Years resolutions requirelifestyle changes, and these are never

easy to make. Be patient with yourselfand, if you occasionally slip up, just staover the next day.
