Overview of the Student Application Program: A Student Ambassador is a positive role model for peers that helps create a safe, respectful, and welcoming school environment. As an Ambassador, you would help to support our 6th grade students. Ambassadors will have multiple responsibilities at Felix Festa Middle School including (please note that due to COVID-19, all activities are subject to change):

● Attend one day of training in the summer- planned for August 26, 2020. ● Assist with Orientation for our new 6th grade students- planned for August 27, 2020- by

sharing information, giving tours, assisting with lockers and helping students transition and feel welcome FFMS.

● Promote messages of respect and reinforce middle school expectations. ● Be assigned a 6th grade homeroom and work with the homeroom teachers to present

monthly No Place for Hate lessons to students. ● Participate in team activities with your 6th grade homeroom. ● Lead 5th graders on building tours during their visitation to FFMS. ● Participate in 6th Grade Parent Orientation one evening in February. ● Participate in the interview process for the incoming Ambassadors for next year. ● Participate in additional activities as determined by Dr. O’Casey and Ms. Madigan.

Ambassador Time Commitment:

● Summer Ambassador training- planned for August 26, 2020 ● 6th Grade Orientation- planned for August 27, 2020 ● Short meeting during the beginning of lunch periods (when necessary) ● Facilitate monthly No Place for Hate lessons with your assigned 6th grade homeroom ● Participate in 5th Grade Parent Orientation one evening in February ● Participate in 5th Grade visitations in early Spring (two periods during the school day)

Ambassador Eligibility Requirements:

● You must be an 8th grade student in the 2020-2021 school year. ● Hand in all parts of this application by the due date. ● Have a positive discipline record in the 7th grade. ● Attend Ambassador training and 6th Grade Orientation Day on August 26 and 27, 2020. ● Display positive behavior in the school and in the community while in 8th grade. ● Maintain a passing average in all classes while in 8th grade. ● Attend all Ambassador Meetings. If you are unable to attend a meeting, you need to

contact Dr. O’Casey before or after the meeting. ● Regularly check the Student Ambassador Google Classroom to view announcements

and communications.

Application Steps and Timeline: Complete parts ONE & THREE between Monday May 4th and Monday May 11th- DUE by 2:00 pm on Monday May 11th. Applications submitted after 2:00 pm on Monday May 11th will not be reviewed or considered for selection. Incomplete applications will not be considered for selection. Part ONE: Complete the brief Google Form (below) to announce your interest in applying. Actions needed by applicant= Complete and submit the Google Form below.

Click HERE to complete Google Form. Part TWO: Recommendation of candidates by 7th grade teams and staff members. Actions needed by applicant= None- this will be completed by the 7th grade staff on your behalf. Part THREE: Complete all parts of the written application (later in this document). Actions needed by applicant = Complete all questions of written application on a separate Google Doc. Once completed, share that document with Dr. O’Casey ([email protected]) and Ms. Madigan ([email protected]) for their review. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Students that successfully meet the requirements of parts one, two and three as determined by Dr. O’Casey & Ms. Madigan will be contacted via ccsd email to be invited to participate in Part FOUR of the application process. The 4th and final part of the application will be to record a Flipgrid video to answer the questions provided. Additional details on this component will be provided in the email described above. Final selections into the 2020-2021 Student Ambassador program will be made by the end of May 2020.

Section 4: Parent/Guardian Permission for Application and Program Participation Directions: Have your parent(s)/ guardian(s) read the section in the blue. If parental approval is granted, the student is responsible for completing the section in the black. Dear Parent/Guardian, Your child has elected to apply for a position as a Student Ambassador for the 2020-21 school year. We would like to explain the different aspects of this program and the commitment it will involve from your child. The primary work of Student Ambassadors will be to serve as leaders among the student body. Ambassadors will serve as mentors and role models to 6th grade students. Each Ambassador will be assigned a homeroom of students to mentor throughout the school year. Ambassadors will be expected to act in a respectful and responsible manner at all times, as they will be the students that our 6th graders will be looking to for help and advice. Ambassadors will also be expected to assist with school activities throughout the year and to assume a leadership role in those activities. Ambassadors will meet with their advisors on an ongoing basis to discuss upcoming events, questions and concerns. Over the summer Ambassadors will be asked to attend a one day training to enhance their skills and prepare them to work with other students. This program will allow students to gain leadership skills, demonstrate responsibility and become positive role models in their school. The program is designed to empower young adults, as it encourages and supports students helping one another. It also provides community service hours for students. Lastly, as this is an application based program, please note that not all applicants may be accepted. While we’d love to work with all students interested in the program, we do need to keep our program enrollment manageable.
