Last year we missed our attendance target by just 0.5%, this means that as a school we will be under greater scrutiny for our attendance from the local authority. We have to register a reason for every absence from school, as you can imagine this can be a lengthy task for Mrs. Francis if we have to chase every absence each day. Fortnightly Friday Flyer

Dear Parent, Croeso. We are now at the end of our 4th week back at school and in the midst of fantastic teaching and learning. Positive attitudes are infectious and the school is buzzing. We have our first parents consultation meetings coming up so that you can meet your child’s teacher, discuss progress and how your child has settled in so far this year. Appointments will be available to book from next week.

Attendance ‘We have the right to learn & be the best we can be.’ A great start to attendance this – Thank you. Last year we missed our attendance target by just 0.5%, this means that as a school we will be under greater scrutiny for our attendance from the local authority. We have to register a reason for every absence from school, as you can imagine this can be a lengthy task for Mrs. Francis if we have to chase every absence each day. If your child is away for any reason please make sure that you inform the office.

The buzzing atmosphere of the school was recognised this week during our Dyslexia Friendly School assessment day. I’m delighted to say that we have been awarded the Dyslexia Friendly Schools Blue Ribbon Award. Staff have worked extremely hard over the past year to develop classroom practice that benefits all learners. The standards for becoming a Dyslexia Friendly School are rigorous and it was heartening hear that the strategies we have been putting in place over this year are very good in supporting learners with a range of needs.

I’d like to thank all the staff for their dedication, care and the incredible hard work they all put in to making sure every child succeeds to the best of their ability. Blyddyn Chwech had a great day out on Wednesday visiting the Heritage Centre to learn how to make bread. They had a bit of a damp walk there and back but enjoyed every moment making their bread. Diolch yn fawr Mr O’Kane!

Lead Creative Schools - ‘We have the right to be heard & have our say’ One of our school aims is to ‘Deliver a stimulating and innovative

curriculum that challenges, excites and inspires pupils to achieve their

best.’ Our Lead Creative Schools Project supports this aim. The project kicked off with Mrs Dardecker, Miss Bygate and I attending a Creative Schools training days last week. This term is all about planning our ideas for the project and we explored lots of ideas over the two days training. An important part of the project is to include the parents and pupils in the process of planning ideas. You can have your chance to say what and how your children learn next week on Friday 7th September at 9 am. We have a fun morning of workshop activities planned with tea and cakes to finish. We’d very much like to see you at the workshop. Please complete the form or let your child’s class teacher know if you would like to join

us so we can plan ahead for refreshments etc.

Harvest ‘We have the right to be fit & healthy.’ This year we are going to donate food to the Swansea Food Bank as part of our Harvest celebration next week. The food bank is currently requesting the following products:

FRUIT JUICE OR SQUASH, SUGAR, TOMATOES (JARS or TINS), RICE, TREATS & CHOCOLATES, BISCUITS, CUSTARD & INSTANT WHIP, JARS OF SAUCE, SOUP, FISH (TINNED)

The food bank also accepts donations of money. Please send any donations into school on Friday 7th October. Diolch.

We are also going take part in Operation Christmas Child this year. We are aiming to collect 100 shoe boxes for the charity. In the next few weeks we’ll send home a leaflet with instructions about how you

fill your shoe box, and we’ll be collecting the shoe boxes from November 1st.

Sports ‘We have the right to be fit & healthy.’ Well done to Max Riley, Sam Williamson, Tristan Barry, Henry Jones, Frankie Lauder and Will Morgan who have all made it through to the Swansea Schoolboys U11 Rugby Union squad. Newyddion gwych!

Finally We have received a lovely letter from Macmillan Cancer Support to tell us about the fantastic achievement of Sam and Noah Williamson who took part in the Macmarathon Rhossilli to Mumbles walk earlier this month. That’s a massive 22 miles; having done that walk I can say it’s a real achievement – da iawn bechgyn!

A reminder that next Monday is an INSET day - we’ll see you back at school on Tuesday.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mwynheuwch y penwythnos!
