Background:On Friday, August 7, 2009, Florida's U.S. Senator Mel Martinez, resigned early andunexpectedly from office leaving Governor Charlie Crist with the legal responsibility toappoint a temporary replacement for this U.S. Senate seat until it is filled in the election ofNovember, 2010.

The Governor has recently sent invitations to three persons to apply and interview for theposition. None of them are acceptable as they are all lean left on various pro-life and orpro-family social issues. There are critical votes that will take place in the U.S. Senate

over the next year and a half on issues like health care, national defense, hate crimes, marriage, ENDA and abortion. We need a solid conservative in the U.S. Senate andDan Webster is the most experienced legislator in Florida, he is available and istrustworthy.

Florida Family Action is a new cultural action organization that iscompletely separate from the Florida Family Policy Council, legally. Ithas been created by separating out of Florida Family Policy Councilthose activities which constitute lobbying under the IRS code so that

they can be expanded in scope. It will provide a platform for informing, inspiring and rallying those who care deeply about the family togreater involvement in the moral, cultural and political issues thatthreaten our state. Florida Family Action will give our team muchgreater freedom to take our views to the public square, where thegreat debate over culture, rights, freedom and values is taking place, and allow us to ask people to take specific actions such as callingsenators and congressmen to pass important, family-friendlylegislation. The bottom line is we can be more effective in fighting forthe Florida Marriage Protection Amendment and against judicialtyranny among other issues with this new lobbying organization.
