==============================================================================================================================================================03.) INTRODUCTION - G0300==============================================================================================================================================================

Hello and welcome to joint project between IceQueenZer0 and Split Infinity!

Final Fantasy XIII has been released on 17th December 2009 in Japan.

At this moment this guide is based on Japanese version of the game, but fretnot. Once the US and PAL versions are out, the guide will be updatedaccordingly.

Here's explanation of some things:

- Spoiler issue - we're the players of the game, just like you (who is reading this guide) are. First time we've played through the game was completely by ourselves - therefore nothing was spoiled for us. All the story elements that were supposed to surprise us had such effect. Hence why we will not include any spoilers (except names of cities, dungeons and NPCs you must address to continue the storyline).

- Split will be using abbreviations a lot. With a guide covering a massive game from Final Fantasy series it is to be expected.

- Ice Queen will be handling mostly the tidbits info such as items, enemy info, mission info, weapon info, etc.

Now let's begin the guide to latest final fantasy, Final Fantasy XIII!

For those who require help in getting thru the game further than what thewalkthru covers, here's something you could definitely use. I've made a videoplaythru of the entire game from start to finish. It's available here:

==============================================================================================================================================================07.) WALKTHROUGH - G0700==============================================================================================================================================================

Okay, folks, before we begin, there are a couple of things you should knowabout this game, because they're radically different from other games in FFseries so far.

- STOCKPILE ALL FORTISOLS AND AEGISOLS COME UPON. They're invaluable in some boss battles at later chapters in the game, where they can easily save you lots of time you'd otherwise spend casting buffs in battle.- You will see all enemies onscreen. It is possible to avoid some encounters, but some you will have to fight.- After the battle is won, you get: a) items, which are dropped by enemies (there's no Steal command) b) CP, which are used to purchase upgrade nodes in Crystarium c) TP, which are used to trigger special commands during battle (Libra, Quake, Full Cure and few others)- After battle is won, you will be given a star ranking. Star rank depends on: TARGET TIME - time alloted for taking out all enemies INITIATIVE BONUS - point multiplier (with PS you get x1,2 multiplier) BATTLE DURATION - how quickly you defeated all enemies POINTS PER SECOND - self-explanatory Points awarded depend on how quickly you took out the enemies, damage incurred/taken, and some other factors.- Star ranking has three uses: a) beating last boss with five stars gives you a trophy b) beating all Missions with five stars gives you a PS3 theme and a trophy c) it influences spoils obtained after battle- Your HP is completely recovered after each battle.- There are only three chrs' stats - HP, STR, and MAG.- There are only two types of equipment - weapons and accessories.- You can store a maximum of 999999 CP, the rest is then wasted.- EXP exists, but it is used for leveling up your equipment. EXP IS NOT GAINED BY WINNING BATTLES!- The game is extremely linear. Chapters 1~10, as well as 12~13 have you going on a set path, with a little detours that usually lead to fighting more enemies or finding a treasure. Chapter 11 is the only one with a rather large area to explore, but even that is not as large as you'd expect.- There is no NPC interactivity, and there is no town interactivity. Yes, you get to access three cities, but only during the storyline.- Save points allow you to: a) save your game b) purchase stuff in shops (more shops become available later in the game) c) upgrade/disassemble equipment (available later in the game)- You can quit to title screen anytime while not in battle by pressing Start, then Select, and choosing 'Yes'.- You can restart *any* battle in the game by pressing Start, then Select, then choosing top option, and choosing 'Yes'. You will be returned to the map just before entering the battle.- If your leader is KOed, it is game over. Choose top option to restart the battle by being returned to the map just before entering the battle. If you choose bottom option, you will be returned to title screen.- You will be forced to play with fixed parties until the end of CH10.- NEVER SELL ANY ACCESSORIES. Several accessories exist in limited quantities, and if you sell them, you're hosed (until established otherwise!).- If you fight all battles as you go thru chapters, there should never be the need to grind for CP as you will usually get enough CP to purchase all upgrade nodes in Crystarium.- Take care if you want to get all enemy entries - some enemies spawn other enemies into battle, but they will never get the chance to do so if you kill them too quickly.- Pressing R1 during battle will access Libra screen of all enemies in battle.- Eventually you'll be able to assign roles to the characters. a) ATTACKER / COMMANDO - excels at physical combat b) BLASTER / RAVAGER - excels at magical combat c) DEFENDER / SENTINEL - draws enemy's attention and acts as a tank d) JAMMER / SABOTEUR - pesters enemies with negative statuses e) ENHANCER / SYNERGIST - protects the party with positive statuses f) HEALER / MEDIC - excels at healing the party and reviving KOed allies Note: Names on right will likely be names of roles when game is localized.- The rest of the stuff will be introduced during the course of walkthru.

It's also worth mentioning options in config.- 1st option is camera type. [X axis normal; Y axis inverted] [X axis normal; Y axis normal] [X axis inverted; Y axis inverted] [X axis inverted; Y axis normal]- 2nd option is EVENT SUBTITLES. Choose or .- 3rd option is SPEAKER'S NAME. Choose or .- 4th option is NON-EVENT SUBTITLES. Choose or .- 5th option is BATTLE SPEED. Choose or .- 6th option is DEFAULT BATTLE COMMAND. Choose or .- 7th option is TARGET SELECTION. Choose or .- 8th option is BATTLE HELP MESSAGES. Choose or .- 9th option is BRIGHTNESS.

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- ACTIVE TIME BATTLE TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

In lower left corner of battle screen you have the following:a) ATB gauge, which currently consists of only two segments.b) List of commands. Currently you only have three: - Auto-battle will have AI choose the most appropriate action. - Abilities lets you choose commands you want to use. - Items lets you use available battle items.

ATBG slowly fills from left to right. Once it is full, your leader will executeinputted commands in the order listed above the ATBG. Most commands cost onesegment of ATBG, though you will also access commands which take 2, 3 or allsegments of ATBG.

Once you choose Auto-battle, you will have to choose the target you want toattack. Currently there's only one enemy, so choose its name and let it rip.

If you choose Abilities, you can then choose which commands you want your chrto execute. Each command is added to ATBG, and you can add as many commands asthere are available segments. Greyed out commands cannot be added to ATBG. Onceyou've selected your commands, the game will provide you with a list ofpossible targets. There's only one enemy, so choose its name and let it rip.

Maximum amount of segments you can obtain is six - thus four more. Two areobtained during course of the game, one can be bought by purchasing relevantupgrade nodes (more on that later), and last can be obtained by upgrading chr'sweapon to its maximum tier (more on that later).

In lower right corner of battle screen you have several pieces of info:a) Chr's nameb) Chr's current HP (if it drops to zero, chr is KOed)c) A green bar representing ratio of chr's current to MAX HP

In upper right corner of the screen you have a Stagger Gauge of the targetedenemy. The game will explain it later in the game in CH1, so don't concern withit just yet.

GAME'S TUTORIAL...Time flows continuously throughout battle. Watch as your ATB gauge slowlycharges. Chrs perform actions by expending charges ATB gauge segments. Theactions which they perform depend on the commands you select.

You can input entire strings of commands, then unleash them all at once.Selectu Auto-battle to queue up a set of commands tailored to your situation.Select Abilities to specific individual commands as you see fit. A descriptionof each command will be displayed at the top of the screen.

For now, try selecting the Auto-battle command. Move the cursor to Auto-battle,then press Action button to select it.

Two Attack actions have just been placed in your command queue. As you learnnew abilities, you will use commands other than attack. It will also becomepossible to create longer strings of commands.

Next, you will need to choose the target of your attacks. When fightingmultiple enemies, select your target using left analog and then press Action toconfirm it.

You only face one enemy this time, so the choice is simple. Press Action toconfirm your target, and you will execue your two Attack commands immediately.

Once you have finished your attacks, enter more commands and continue fightinguntil you have defeated the enemy. Note that you will only be able to controlthe actions of Lightning. Sazh will fight on hiw own, supporting her as hedeems best.

GOOD LUCK! FROM HERE ON OUT, HOW YOU FIGHT IS UP TO YOU!

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- LIBRA SCREEN TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

By pressing R1 you can access Libra screen of all enemies you're fighting andhaven't been defeated yet. The screen is setup like this:a) Top left corner has: - Enemy's name - Enemy's current / MAX HP (by reducing current HP to zero enemy is KOed) - Enemy's levelb) Upper right corner lists negative statuses enemy is immune to. From left to right you have: - Deprotect (take more physical damage) - Deshell (take more magical damage) - Slow (enemy's ATBG fills 50% slower) - Poison (continuous damage over time) - Imperil (fire, water, thunder and ice resistances down by 1 rank) - Curse (enemy's attacks interrupted harder, own attacks interrupted easier) - Pain (cannot use physical abilities) - Fog (cannot use magical abilities) - Daze (cannot move, receive much higher damage from next attack) - Death (instant KO) - Dispel (remove the latest buff/debuff applied [rightmost one]) - Provoke (you can't see it, though)c) On left side of the screen you have the following: - CHAIN RESISTANCE (how resilient the enemy is against chaining) - STAGGER POINT (amount of Stagger you must inflict before enemy staggers) - COMMON DROP is item which is dropped most of time - RARE DROP is item which is rarely droppedd) On right side of the screen you have enemy's vulnerabilities to six elements, as well as physical and magical attacks. There are six types of affinities the enemy can sport and they are: a) WHITE - none (takes full damage of the attack) b) BLUE - weakness (takes double damage from such attack) c) YELLOW - half (takes 50% less damage from such attack) d) ORANGE - resistant (damage from such attack is reduced by 90%) e) RED - immunity (takes no damage from such attack [word GUARD appears]) f) PURPLE - absorption (attack heals enemy - 30% of the usual damage) recovery)e) On bottom of the screen you have four lines of enemy information, which may provide hints as to how to battle the enemy efficiently, or warn you of enemy's special abilities.

Libra screen is very useful and should be referred to often.

Whenever you press R1 and you access Libra screen of the enemy you haven'tfought yet, everything will be filled with question marks. You need to fightthis enemy a couple of times before the entries fill up with relevantinformation. Alternatively you can use Libra Scope item which scans all enemiesin battle and reveals all info. Third way is using Libra technique (more onthis later).

Just as you can attack enemies and sometimes prevent them from their attackgoing off, they can do the same to you. There are a couple of variations of howcan enemies forbid or inhibit your movement.- knock your chr to the ground, after which he/she will stand up- launch your chr in the air, then he/she comes crashing down, and will stand up after a few seconds- Daze status prevents your chr from moving, and causes next attack received to inflict greater damage- Fog status prevents your chr from using attacks of magical nature- Pain status prevents your chr from using attacks of physical nature- when hit, your chr will often stagger a little, but not enough to be knocked on the ground

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- ENCOUNTER TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

When not in battle mode, a minimap is displayed in upper right corner. Red dotsrepresent enemies which you will (usually) have to fight in order to be able toproceed. Each enemy or enemy group also has a field of encounter. Once yourleader steps into FOE, the minimap will blink red and your leader's stance willchange in battle-ready stance (for example, Lightning will run with her righthand close to her blade).

Each enemy also has field of vision. If the enemy spots your leader, a red '!'will appear above enemy's head (if you're dealing with a group of enemies, allof them will become alerted to your presence in their FOE), and will now cometo actively try to fight you.

You can exit their FOE and wait until their alertness goes down, at which pointthey return to whatever they were doing before. It's funny how you can danceliterally in front of enemy's nose and it won't come after you, as long as youstay out of FOE.

If you manage to sneak behind the enemy and touch it without the enemy seeingyou, you get 'Preemptive strike!' advantage. I'll explain more about it later.

BATTLE - 2x PSICOM Warden

Well, fight the two soldiers ahead and proceed to the debris on the tracks. Hm,how to proceed? Notice the blue circle on the ground - it denotes points atwhich your chr can jump on/over the obstacle simply by moving into the circleand tilting left analog. Jump over the obstacle and move ahead.

As a general note, you should fight every enemy you come across. Doing so willyield you valuable items and materials (some of them can be sold for heftyamount of cash), as well as CP and TP recovery.

BATTLE - 2x PSICOM WardenBATTLE - PSICOM Warden + 2x PSICOM Enforcer

Also do not worry about scanning the enemies. Fight enough of them and theirfull info will go into the Bestiary. Boss enemies get added automatically andyou don't really need to scan them.

Jump over next debris pile and collect POTION from treasure ball. Yes, treasurechests are a thing of the past, you have treasure balls in FF13. Keep movingahead for a scene. When confronted by a group of different enemies, try to getrid of weakest enemies first to quickly reduce the amount of enemies you face. This is usually a good course of action, but not always.

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- ITEM USAGE TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

When in a pinch, items can save your day. Items can be used instantly, andusing items does not affect ATBG in any way. Some items are used on all partymembers, and some can be used only on one.

Choosing Item command will bring up a list of available battle items. Choosethe one you need at the moment and then select who you want to use it on. AIcan assist you by automatically putting the cursor on the one that needs it themost.

GAME'S TUTORIAL...Whenever your HP begins to run low in combat, you can heal yourself using itemsto avoid being knocked out. Select the Items command to open your partyinventory.

It looks like you have some Potions, which restore HP when consumed. The numbernext to an item's name tells you how many items of that type you have left.

Move the cursor to the name of the item you wish to use, Potion, and then pressAction.

Since a single Potion heals your entire battle team, you do not need to specifya target. Using items is a free action, so you will recover HP immediatelywithout expending any charged segments of your ATB gauge. When you findyourself in a pinch, don't hesitate to use a Potion. Remember, even if yourallies are still standing, it's game over if the enemy manages to KO Lightning!

The situation is grim... turn around and retrace a few steps.

Climb the stairs, save at SPN and jump on the big elevator platform. Redcircles denote interaction point - put Lightning in the circle and 'Activate'command will come up. Press X to activate it and get ready!

=====---------------------------------------------------------------------=====Hanging Edge - Skybridge No.369=====---------------------------------------------------------------------=====

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- ATTACK CHAIN TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

Now let's talk about chain and Stagger.a) By continuously attacking the enemy, thus chaining the attacks together, you're increasing enemy's Chain gauge (evident by yellow bar being filled from left to right).b) Physical attacks add little % to CG, but they also cause CG to decrease slowly, allowing you ample time to chain together next series of attacks.c) Magical attacks add a lot of % to CG, but they also cause CG to decrease rapidly, not allowing you to string together attacks easily.d) Every enemy in the game has its own CG and it starts at 100% once battle commences.e) Once you add enough % to enemy's CG, that enemy enters STAGGER STATE. For example, first enemy you fought has CG of 300%. When battle starts, its CG begins at 100%. This means that you have to keep chaining attacks together for so long until you accumulate additional 200% towards enemy's CG.f) In Stagger the enemy is extremely vulnerable, more susceptible to status changes, takes much more damage from attacks, and cannot respond well to your attacks. Additionally, sometimes attack and/or status affinities may change in Stagger.g) Once the enemy is Staggered, bonus 100% is added to CG. In aforementioned case, CG would become 400%.h) Maximum value CG can reach is 999,9%.i) % on the CG has another effect. All of your attacks will inflict higher damage affected by the amount displayed on CG. In aforementioned case, your attacks would inflict 4x greater damage than usual.j) Once the enemy is Staggered, its CG will start to slowly deplete from right to left. Until the bar is completely gone, all additional attacks by you will keep adding % to CG. Once the bar is empty, enemy's CG returns to 100% and you have to Stagger it again.

GAME'S TUTORIAL...To initiate an attack chain, first select Auto-battle, or Attack from theAbilities menu, and choose the PSICOM Marauder as your target.

See the bar beneath your target's name? This is known as the chain gauge. Keepan eye on the chain gauge as you strike.

When you attack an enemy, its chain gauge fills. Hit home, and the percentagebeneath it increases. This percentage is called the chain bonus. The more timesyou hit an enemy, the more damage it will take from subsequent attacks.Continue pummeling this PSICOM Marauder, boosting your chain bonus until thegauge is full.

Once the chain gauge is full, one further blow will stagger your foe. Astaggered enemy takes greater damage when attacked. Chaining attacks to staggerpowerful adversaries is essential to defeating them. Be aware, however, that anenemy's chain gauge begins to drain the moment it is staggered. Once the gaugeis empty, then enemy will no longer be staggered.

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- PREEMPTIVE STRIKE TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

All enemies guard areas limited by their fields of vision or other means ofdetection. Upon entering a guarded area, there is a chance that the enemy orenemies patrolling it will take notice. If your trespass is observed, a warningicon [!] will appear over the heads of any enemies alerted to your presence. These foes will then become hostile, taking up defensive positions or rushingforward to attack.

If your party leader comes into contact with an enemy, a battle will begin.Battles begin normally if the enemy was aware of the party's presence. If theenemy was caught off guard, however, the party will be able to make apreemptive strike.

Certain enemies, like Zwerg Scandroids, have extremely narrow fields of visionand can easily be approached unnoticed. It is always advantageous to do so ifpossible, as initiating a preemptive strike forces enemies to enter battle withtheir chain gauges near the staggering threshold.

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- PARADIGM TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

Your chrs now have roles assigned to them and they are as follows:LIGHTNING - Commando, Ravager, Medic (is unlocked later)SAZH - Commando (is unlocked later), Ravager, Synergist (is unlocked later)VANILLE - Ravager, Saboteur (is unlocked later), MedicSNOW - Commando, Ravager, SentinelHOPE - Ravager, Synergist, MedicMYSTERY CHARACTER - Commando, Sentinel, Saboteur

Battle screen has also been updated with few new goodies.

In lower left corner of the screen you have two additions:a) PARADIGM can be accessed by pressing L1. What does it do? It allows you to change chrs' roles in battle on the fly by choosing one of predetermined setups (you can have a maximum of six setups).b) TECHNIQUES command has been added. Techs are special commands which use up Technical Points. TP are not infinite, so use techs sparingly.

In lower right corner of the screen following info has been added:a) Between chr's name and numerical HP display you'll see a shortened name for chr's role - COM for Commando, RAV for Ravager and so forth.b) TP gauge has been added below leader's HP gauge. TP gauge decreases as you use up techs, and can hold a maximum of 5 TP. TP gauge slowly recovers during battles, and can be fully recovered by using Elixir or Ether Smoke.

GAME'S TUTORIAL...You can assign characters the most effective roles for a given situation bychanging your party's paradigm. You can switch between paradigms as often asyou like. First, press L1 to access your party's paradigm deck.

Each paradigm assigns specific roles to the members of your party. These rolesdefine the spells and abilities available to a party member, as well as theirgeneral behavior in combat.

There's a wide variety of paradigms to choose from. Offensive paradigmsconcentrate on dealing damage to enemies, while defensive paradigms focus onparty protection and healing. It is very important to shift paradigms to suityour situation. You can press left analog to scan the paradigms available andsee the list of roles that each comprises.

Your current paradigm, Relentless Assault, is an offensive paradigm in whichmultiple attackers coordinate their efforts. The paradigm's two Ravagers targetwhichever enemy Commando attacks, with the goal of quickly filling the enemy'schaing gauge in order to stagger it. If you wish to continue using theRelentless Assault paradigm, press Cancel to close the paradigm deck. If youwish to change paradigms, select a new paradigm with left analog and then pressAction.

One of your party members has just taken damage! Now might be a good time toopen your paradigm deck with L1 and shift to a defensive paradigm likeSolidarity.

Shifting to Solidarity will cast Snow in the role of Sentinel, boosting hisdefenses so he can shield others from enemy fire. Vanille's role will change toMedic, causing her to concetrate on healing wounded allies with the Cure spell.Once your party has recovered its strength, you can shift back to RelentlessAssault and continue battling your enemies.

Win the event battle (Lightning also has 3 segments on ATBG now), and thencheck your main menu. Paradigms submenu has been added - in this submenu youcan assign different battle setups for upcoming battles, so give it a go. 4thoption in the submenu will remain locked until the end of CH9. Walk forward abit for another tutorial.

Crystarium is chr's growth chart, on which you can buy various upgrade nodes:- ABILITY NODE teaches chr a new ability- HP NODE increases chr's MAX HP by displayed amount- STR NODE increases chr's STR stat by displayed amount- MAG NODE increases chr's MAG stat by displayed amount- ACCESSORY NODE increases chr's number of accessory slots by 1- ATBG NODE increases amount of segments in chr's ATBG by 1- ROLE NODE raises chr's role level by 1

You can purchase nodes by expending CP, which are obtained by winning battles, like the one you've just had. Chr's growth is fairly linear, with odd pathbranching off here and there. Note that some abilities are not available to allchrs - to give an example, Vanille is the only one who gets access to Deathspell.

GAME'S TUTORIAL...Having become l'Cie, the members of your party can now develop their powers, learning new abilities, or improving attributes such as Strength, Magic, and HP.

First, open the main menu. The Crystarium is now accessible from the menu.Select it with left analog and then press Action to open it.

Next, use left analog to select the character you wish to develop. SelectLightning this time, and then press Action to confirm.

This is the Crystarium, which allows you to develop a character's abilities invarious roles. Lightning can currently develop as a Commando or a Ravager. Eachhas its own path of development. Use left analog to select Commando and thenpress Action.

As you can see, the Ruin crystal is illuminated. Illuminated crystals representknown abilities. Lightning can use the offensive magic spell Ruin whenever sheis playing the role of Commando.

The crystal next to Ruin is still dimmed, but by extending the line ofcrystogenesis to reach it, Lightning can obtain the crystal and its benefits. You can advance the path of crystogenesis by holding Action. Doing so willconsume crystogen points (CP). Character development always requires CP.

Go ahead and advance Lightning's path of crystogenesis. Press Action and theline will extend, gradually consuming CP. Continue holding A until the linereaches the next crystal.

You obtained a Strength +4 crystal, increasing Lightning's Strength attributeby 4. Abilities can only be used when in the correspodning role, but attributebonuses like this one apply across all roles.

At times, you must direct the course of crystogenesis. Normally, the line willadvance until you run out of CP. However, it will stop automatically atbranching points like the Strength +4 crystal you just obtained. To continueadvancing crystogenesis here, hold A and press D-pad in desired direction.

You have run out of CP, so crystogenesis cannot proceed. To develop Lightningfurther, you will need to earn more CP. Characters earn CP after each battle.Once you have fought enough, return to the Crystarium to obtain more crystals.

You can develop other party members in the Crystarium as well. If you wish todo so now, press L1 or R1 to select another character. When you have finished, press Cancel to exit.

Crystarium submenu has been added to your main menu.

Anyway, expend CP you've collected to boost your chrs' stats a bit, and thenmove towards 1st cross - take the left path.

BATTLE - 4x Ghoul + Ghast / D

At the end get PEARLWING STAFF (weapon for Vanille) from TB, then take theright path and save at SPN. I recommend that you frequently check out shops costhey update their warez every so often.

BATTLE - Ghast + 3x Wight / D

Close to these guys climb the slope to get on toppled pillar. Here's TB with7x CHIPPED FANG. Drop down and follow Snow who ran off ahead. Jump over thechasm using conveniently placed debris (seriously, who crashed here soperfectly?), and then you'll see Snow standing on small hill.

BATTLE - 7x PSICOM Warden / F

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- COMMAND EXECUTION TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

Simply put - by choosing Abilities you are able to select abilities you wantyour chr to execute. Each ability is added to ATBG, and you can add as manyabilities as there are available segments. Greyed out abilities cannot be addedto ATBG. Once you've selected your abilities, the game will provide you with alist of possible targets. Choose it and let it rip.

GAME'S TUTORIAL...If you wish to manually enter commands in battle, first choose Abilities todisplay the list of actions at your disposal. Choose abilities with D-pad andthen press Action to add them to your command queue. A description of eachability will be shown at the top of the screen. Try selecting Abilities now toenter some commands.

Becoming a l'Cie extended Lightning's ATB gauge by one segment, meaning thatshe can now perform up to three consecutive actions. Now that the gauge islonger, it also takes longer to fill. However, you can execute commands at anytime. To do so, simply press Triangle. This will execute commands assigned tocharged segments. Leftover charge will be carried over to your next turn.

Now, take a look at the ability list below. The number next to each ability isits ATB cost. More powerful abilities have higher ATB costs. Try enteringenough commands to fill the gauge.

Entering commands manually allows you to determine their order, which isimportant since chain bonuses vary by command. Pay attention to each ability'sATB cost, and try to fill your command queue with the most effective sequencespossible.

After battle check a dead end to your right for TB with 200 GIL. Follow Vanilledown the slope and then flush out next enemy set.

BATTLE - 3x Ghast + 3x Wight / D

On broken bridge nearby is TB with 5x CIE'TH TEARS.

=====---------------------------------------------------------------------=====Lake Bresha - Amid Timebound Waves=====---------------------------------------------------------------------=====

Carry further on down the slope.

BATTLE - 4x Breshan Bass / D

At the cross take the left path down the slope into a dead end.

BATTLE - 4x Breshan Bass / D

Open TB with SILVER BANGLE (HP+100), then backtrack to previous cross andcontinue down the path. You'll find next SPN, cross the bridge, descend theslope... only to ascend another one...

BATTLE - 4x Pantheron / D

Upon smashing them. open nearby TB with PHOENIX DOWN, turn around, descend theslope a bit and look to the right for another TB with 50 GIL.

BATTLE - 2x Pantheron / D

Upon passing under second arch, snipe TB with 8x STRANGE FLUID, and furtherahead path divides.

BATTLE - 2x PSICOM Enforcer + PSICOM Warden / F

Upon smoking them, check dead end they're guarding for TB with MAGICIAN'S MARK(MAG+20), turn around and take right path to reach another SPN. So it justhappens that ice crystallized at exact points needed, ROFL.

A boss is coming up, so setting up few paradigms wouldn't be bad.1. COM/RAV/RAV2. RAV/SEN/MED (starting paradigm)3. COM/RAV/MED4. RAV/RAV/RAV5. RAV/SEN/RAV

---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- PARADIGM SYSTEM TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

An offensive paradigm like Relentless Assault allows you to concentrate theparty's attacks on a single enemy and quickly stagger it. Stop those attacks, and the chain bonus you worked so hard to build will begin to fall. As aresult, it may seem like a good idea to stick with Relentless Assault for theentire battle.

However, this enemy's powerful attacks are capable of reducing your party's HPto dangerous levels. If any of your party memebers take too much damage, shiftto a paradigm like Solidarity that contains a Medic and heal your charactersbefore they're knocked out. Avoid using a defensive paradigm for too long, though. The longer you use it, the lower your chain bonus will fall and theharder it will be to stagger your opponent.

Pay close attention to both your party's HP and the enemy's chain gauge, shifting paradigms as needed. For the time being, your best bet is a paradigmcomposed of Commandos and Ravagers like Relentless Assault. Focus on driving upyour chain bonus until your party has taken significant damage, then shift toSolidarity to recover. As soon as everyone has been healed, switch back tooffense. The goal is to stagger your enemy as quickly as possible, so do yourshifting efficiently, without giving its chain gauge a chance to recover.

The boss opens byshooting Wave Cannon across the area, heavily damaging everyone - Vanille willpromptly cure everyone. Next attack coming up is Crystal Rain - throwing twoicicles. This is why having Snow as SEN from start of battle comes in handy -you'll suffer less damage than usual. For next couple of turns boss will beshooting its tail laser. Here's a good tip - when you start working on enemy's CG, always include COM aspart of paradigm. COM adds little to CG, but doesn't cause CG to depleterapidly. After using COM in say two assaults, switch to paradigm that has RAVsonly and start blasting the enemy. CG will increase rapidly, but since you usedCOM when you began adding % to it, CG will decrease slowly. Now back to bossbattle at hand. After Warmech uses the opening salvo, switch to . Attack it for couple ofturns to get a good start at CG, then switch to . Tail laser will not hurtmuch and as it is used for a while, you'll be able to Stagger the boss quiteeasily. Damage done to it will now increase by a lot, allowing you toremove over 50% of its HP.Be advised to look for captions of attacks onscreen. Warmech will soon readyitself to launch Wave Cannon, followed by Crystal Rain. When you see the bossopening the hatch, switch to and wait for boss' salvo to end. After it'sdone, return to the process of switching to , attacking couple of times, and then to Stagger the boss, upon which you can finish it off.------------------ CONGRATULATIONS! ---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ---------------------------------- BATTLE TECHNIQUE TUTORIAL---------------------------------- TUTORIAL! ----------------------------------

Techs are special commands that can make your battles easier, but they can onlybe used if you have at least 1 TP available. TP is recovered by a certainamount at the end of each battle. Recovery is greater if battle is won quicklyand efficiently. Some techs are Libra and Quake.

GAME'S TUTORIAL...Techniques are special abilities used by expending technical points (TP). Yourparty's TP gauge appears below the leader's HP gauge. Successfully unleashing afull ATB gauge of queued abilities or earning a high battle ranking replenishedTP.

Try using a technique for yourself. Select Techniques from the menu and thenexecute the Libra ability.

Using Libra reveals the abilities and weaknesses of your enemies. You can viewknown enemy intel at any time by pressing R1. Revealing enemy attributes willautomatically change the abilities selected by the Auto-battle command and byyour allies. The most effective actions known are always chosen.

Using Libra on this alpha behemoth revealed that it is vulnerable to both fireand water damage. If a character's current role has access to abilities thatdeal damage of those types, that character will now be able to deal damage moreeffectively. When you encounter seemingly overwhelming new enemies, Libra canbe a potent ally.

Additional techniques will become available over time. More powerful techniquesconsume more TP when used, and unlike HP, TP is not restored automaticallyafter battle. Aim to achieve high battle rarings in order to replenish TP.

After steaking it, check dead end to the right for TB with LIBRASCOPE, thenjump down broken segments of the bridge and approach edge of the ravine. Afterthe scene carry on by descending the slope.
