Guidelines for Model

• Model will be divided into four sections – one for each content area

• A platform/base will be provided• Structure will use accurate proportions• Team must provide a journal that includes a complete

record of planning, construction, testing, modifications, and some reflection about the strategies used and the results

• Appropriate materials must be selected and creatively modified in ways that make them even better.

• Must provide a key explaining each of the model’s components

• A 3-5 minute presentation explaining the structure

Guidelines for Newspaper

• At least 4 period appropriate articles• Articles should be at least 4 paragraphs • A headline for each article• Written in present tense – as if you are there• Name of paper, day and date, city and state• At least 4 pictures – pictures don’t

necessarily have to be related to an article, but all must have captions

• Correct grammar and spelling• Should look like a newspaper with no

awkward blank spots• Overall appearance of newspaper should be

historically accurate

Guidelines for Children’s Book

• Hard cover w/ binding• Front cover - title, author, & illustrator• Back cover with a summary• Title Page - title, author, illustrator,

publisher, date, and approximate reading level

• 10 - 20 pages, not including cover and title page

• No more than 5 sentences per page• Pages must be numbered• Illustration or photograph on every page• Language and content appropriate for a child

Guidelines for Documentary Film

Use Knovio and Power Point 3 - 5 minutes Min. of 10 still photos Every photo has a caption Must give credit for all photo clips that you did not create.  Title Screen Closing Credits must include roles of all group members and

date All group members record audio/video Written script for all audio/video Script must be typed in 12pt font Arial or times new roman

Guidelines for Board Game

• At least 25 game spaces

• Insturctions:– Object of game, required content (key

elements), how to set-up, game play/rules

• Include all necessary materials (game pieces, spinner, etc)

• Max. size 18” x 24”

• Min. size 12” x 12”

Key Elements

• All students will be responsible for demonstrating their understanding of certain “key elements” in each content area. – Language Arts – characterization– Math – analyzing statistics– Science – cause and spread of the

yellow fever virus– Social Studies – Philadelphia as the

capital & the Free African Society

• A Key Elements worksheet must becompleted prior to starting your project.

• The worksheet will indicate an understanding of the topic and where it can be found within the project.

• The Key Elements worksheet will be turned in with your project.

Monday, December 17th by 8:10 am

You will receive 5 extra credit points if you project is completed on Friday,

Dec. 14th.

Can we work in groups?

YES!• You may choose to work alone or in a

group. • Groups can not have more than 4

people.• Groups may consist of any 8th grade

When do I have to pick my group and project?

All students must select their project and group by 8:20a.m. on

Wednesday, Dec. 5th.

Sign-up sheets will be posted on the bulletin board outside Mr. Lagona’s

classroom.

How will the projects be graded?

All projects will be graded based on a rubric. You will receive a copy of the

specific rubric for your selected project on Friday, December 7th.

How much will the grade count?

It will count as a test grade in each of your core classes – language arts, math, science, & social studies.

What if I’m absent?

•If you are absent more than one day, you will be responsible for completing a project individually.

What if someone in my group is not contributing?

If someone in your group is not contributing, they will be given an individual research project. They will be responsible for working alone and completing it by the

deadline.
