H E L L OAs the cooler months linger on, we're craving the warmer

days of spring. Until that glorious time, we have some great ideas to not only pass the time, but to enjoy it!

Some things just aren't the same unless you have a reason to rug up and we have some great excuses to

do just that – whisk your partner away to a romantic location for a sweet treat or cosy up under the blankets

at a backyard campfire lunch.

Of course in our busy lives we know how important work can be – we found a very talented bunch of designers

who know that a little fun at the office goes a long way towards creating big ideas! The team at Parallax shared their creative workspace which proved the perfect spot

for office drinks and a bite to eat.

We hope we help you make the most of these last cool days and look forward to sharing all of our spring

entertaining ideas with you next issue.

We are lucky enough to live in the beautiful Adelaide Hills bounded by trees and wildlife, our house nestled on the banks

of the Onkaparinga River.

With such an abundance of beauty it's sometimes easy to forget how special it is and it's not until we're reminded by visitors we

take the time to appreciate our everyday surroundings.

One of the perks of living in such a tranquil part of the world is that my husband, Naish, and I rarely feel the need to go on

holidays. We'd rather invite friends up on the weekends to kick back and relax.

With no shortage of firewood, fish in the river and native fauna and flora at our doorstep, a toasty campfire lunch is the perfect way to enjoy the company of good friends and enjoy our home

through their admiring eyes.

Whether it’s on your own piece of paradise or you head out to your favourite camp spot, gather friends together and enjoy the great

outdoors for some back-to-basics entertainment.

The aim of the day was to serve a hearty meal without too much fuss. Coal-cooked corn, homemade soup with crusty bread, chips and dips were all on the menu. Handy crates were stacked with the basics and handed to guests to carry to the site. When emptied of their supplies, they doubled as seating arranged around the campfire with folded blankets for cushions.

FÊTE 04PAGE 14

Keep things simple to avoid the great lug – noone wants to contend with a back-breaking load. Hand held soup bowls do away with the need for spoons, pre-buttered and foil-wrapped corn can be nestled in the coals then unfurled and enjoyed without a fork in sight and single serve bread means there's no need to cut slices.

A little campfire is all you need, enough to hold a hotplate for toasting bread and warming the soup. Send the kids out to collect kindling and don't forget to bring firelighters to kick start proceedings incase the wood is a little wet. Choose a spot where there is lots to see and do – perhaps a chance to fish or a place for the kids to explore. Those lazybones left behind can simply enjoy the country air and good conversation while keeping the fire stoked for the return of the adventurers.

There's something really special about getting children out in the open air. For many of our friends' little ones it’s the only chance they have to get back to nature. Send the kids out on a scavenger hunt to collect all manner of flora and fauna, it will keep them entertained for hours. We set up a tent for them to enjoy – laid out with cushions and blankets it’s a perfect retreat from annoying adults.

At the end of the day we brought out a thermos of hot tea and handed out marshmallows, ready for toasting. But wait, there's more – so much more – all the ingredients to construct a scrumptious s’more. We sandwiched shavings of

delicious organic chocolate and gooey toasted marshmallow between thin, sweet biscuits then added a slice of glacé orange for the grown-ups.

I've known Kellie Campbell-Illingworth for years now – as a member of our state's AGDA (Australian Graphic Design

Association) committee, I remember presenting her with the Best Graduate Award upon finishing uni in 2002. She was a stand-out student with admirable drive and motivation. And her work was good – really good. It was clear she was

destined for great things in our industry.

Soon after graduating she went to work at an exciting new studio in Adelaide, Parallax, with the highly-respected

designer, Matthew Remphrey. Well the planets aligned that day because between them, Kellie, Matt and their workmates have racked up an impressive collection of awards, accolades

and achievements, well deserved and ever-so-slightly intimidating for mere mortals like me.

Named as one of the world's top 50 creatives under the age of 30 by the New York Art Directors Club, and a recent step up to partner at Parallax, it's plain to see Kellie isn't about to rest on her laurels just yet and we can expect to see many

more acclaimed designs from this team in the future.

Us designers are an obliging bunch. A quick email to one of my friends was enough to secure an invitation to shoot an office lunch

in one of Australia's most awarded graphic design studios.

The streamlined studio is where Kellie, Matt and their staff spend most of their days, working on brand development and implementation. Parallax is renown for their work within the wine industry with many well-known, award-winning labels designed from this very space. An inhouse caravan acts as a private meeting spot and a place to gather thoughts after a brain-bending day in front of the computer.

Kellie and fellow-designer, Ali – who is expecting her first baby in a matter of months – use the caravan for a brainstorming session, complete with a soothing cup of tea to get the creative juices flowing. The fantastic high-gloss fitout was designed by Matt and custombuilt inside the original, vintage caravan shell.

This sounds like one great place to work – Kellie told us about table tennis matches on Friday afternoons and countless meals whipped up by Matt for his hungry workmates. We helped them pull together an easy lunch of fast-food favourites, the perfect end to a hard week at work – quick and easy staples sourced from local suppliers and pieced together with pizazz in the studio kitchen.

A group meeting over lunch proved a good way to chat about work in a relaxed way. Hot dogs were easy to put together on site. Mini franks were heated in the microwave and dinner rolls were split and browned on the office toaster oven, lightly buttered when ready. Teamed with store-bought caramelised onion and sweet American mustard we topped them with the cutest little cornichons. Mini burgers complete with cheese and pickles, together with serves of golden fries were bought from a favourite local supplier and served piping hot as soon as they arrived.

indi's third birthday

FÊTE 04PAGE 48

FÊTE 04 PAGE 49

With her attention to detail and love of natural light photography, Leanne created this adorable story and shares

with us that something small and simple can still be hit with the little ones.

Leanne explained that one of Indi's favourite toys is the pretty pastel wooden kitchen that has pride of place in her children's playroom. Indi loves to pretend to bake cakes and cookies for

her mummy, so when it came time to celebrate Indi’s third birthday, holding a little party that revolved around baking

and her favourite toy kitchen was a perfect fit for both mother and daughter.

Wholesome milk drinks in vintage style jars and the prettiest dessert table was all that was needed for Indi to feel like a kid

in a candy store on her special day.

Leanne Ambrogio is the name behind Sydney-based online store and dessert styling service, Sweet Style. Leanne’s

sweet-tooth and love of desserts is also shared by her three year old daughter, Indi.

The combination of pastel colours on Indi’s little wooden kitchen were so pretty that Leanne couldn’t resist using this as the colour scheme for all the food. A simple collection of cake stands and the hanging pastel, paper decorations added just the right amount of detail to this super sweet theme. Pastel marshmallow squares and sixlet lollies in glass jars completed Indi’s party treats.
