For the 46th time, Toronto wil lsway to the Soca beat and the

soundsof the Steel Drum

The Festival Management Committee is preparingfor Toronto's 46th annual Scotiabank TorontoCaribbean Carnival, which wil l run from July 9, 201 3to August 4, 201 3, and once again bring the cultureof the Caribbean to over a mil l ion spectators indowntown Toronto. The free official launch wil l takeplace on July 9, 201 3 at 1 2:00 p.m. at Toronto'sNathan Phil l ip's Square, where dancers, musicians,and calypso singers wil l get the city into theCarnival mood.

"The funding that we wil l be receiving from thebank, the province, the Federal government, the cityand now OLG means that the Festival can continueto deliver new and exciting events again this year.Because of construction on the grounds of the CNEwe are changing how the big parade wil l be run,giving more opportunities for paying customersinside the park grounds to see our colourfulparade," said Scotiabank Toronto CaribbeanCarnival CEO Denise Herrera-Jackson. "This year,just as we did last year, we're making sure that fromthe revenues raised at our events, we donated fourcommunity charities – The Children's BreakfastClub, The Caribbean Children's Foundation,Prostate cancer Canada and Sickle AwarenessGroup of Ontario. “

The Toronto waterfront Carnival parade, takingplace on August 3rd, remains the largest outdoorevent in Canada. This year, because a hotel is nowbeing constructed where the parade traditional lystarts, the actual staging area for our 1 6,000costumed masqueraders and floats is being movedto the north-end of the CNE property. That meansthe parade wil l now travel the width of the CNEgrounds before entering Lakeshore Blvd, giving thefestival more space to accommodate paidadmission guests. The parade continues to be freefor spectators along the Lakeshore blvd. “

Junior Carnival ParadeThe first big event, the Junior CarnivalParade, wil l take place at DownsviewPark. Think of it as a junior's version of thebig parade. In 201 2, over 2,500 childrenperformed for the judges and played Masalong the streets of the Downsview Park.Chevrolet supports the ScotiabankCaribbean Carnival Junior CarnivalParade.

Festival Cup MatchSport fans wil l want to watch the CanadianRugby League take on the Jamaica RugbyLeague at Lamport Stadium. This is thethird year for the Festival match – theCanadian team remains undefeated.Game starts at 7:00 p.m.

NEW FREE EVENTThe Scotiabank Caribbean CarnivalSummertime BBQ JULY 25TH wil l bringfood, Soca music, costumes, and MokoJumbies to the Eglinton Square ShoppingCentre (Eglinton East / Victoria Park).

The Annual GalaA formal wear party to honour the richhistory of the festival and to sample theCaribbean arts, wil l take place at theLiberty Grand Ballroom on the CNEgrounds.

Monarch ContestOntario’s best Calypso performerscompete to see who wil l wear the crownas this country’s top Calypso singer.Evening competition to be held at theChinese Cultural Centre’s P C Ho Theatrein Scarborough.

The King and Queen ContestBecause of overwhelming demand, theseating for Lamport Stadium is beingincreased to accommodate spectators atthis year’s King And Queen competition.This nighttime event showcases theelaborate costumes, which wil l be worn bythe Kings and Queens in the GrandParade.

Pan AlivePan Alive is the largest outdoor steel panorchestra competition in North America.Over a dozen orchestras from Ontario andQuebec wil l compete in an evening battleof the bands at Lamport Stadium.
