Results • Karibu Music Festival is still a very young festival, this year being it’s second our
main objective was to showcase what we can do as a festival and what is on offer
in regards to talent locally and Internationally. We needed to strategical place
ourselves on the Tanzanian social calendar and believe we have achieve this with
great pride, African pride being a key ingredient.
• Apart from Sauti za Busara in Zanzibar, Nyama Choma and Marahaba, the
festival industry in Tanzania is still growing. Compared to other festival Karibu is
unique not only in its location but our philosophy and approach in promoting live
music development in the industry, unity through our collective love and
appreciation for the art and culture, furthermore understanding between one
another through our experiences. We don’t just want to establish a yearly event in
Bagamoyo but for us it is critical the festival and it’s objectives establishes roots in
Bagamoyo and especially amongst the youth.
• We wanted to create a platform where musicians, artists and like minded people,
come together to share, learn and experience all towards the development of live
music, culture and the arts, this we are confident was successful achieved this
year. However, there is always room for improvement and we are constantly
learning to better ourselves.
Reactions Artists/Performers

control our feelings, we will come to learn more than music” - Papa Wemba
• “we’ve met new people, great music, sound and stage ” - H_Art the Band lead singer
• “I’ve had a wonderful time, people in here know what to expect from artist on stage, we
engage them smoothly and they keep wanting more. Hope next time it will be wao!” -BO

• “Sikujua kama mashairi yanaweza kuwa muziki mkubwa kama walivyofanya hao jamaa,
huu ni muelekeo mpya kwa muziki wetu wa kiafrika tuweze kujitambulisha”
• (I didn't know poetry can be a great music, this is a new direction for our African music we
should follow to identify ourselves) said Juma Nature, Bongo flava musician from
Tanzania referring to Sarabi from Kenya.
Reactions Spectators
• Spectator satisfaction was key to the festival
• “this is what we need, live music is totally what makes this festival different” said Rachel Paul, identified herself as music lover from Dar es Salaam - after Papa Wemba’s performance
• “A nice relaxing change from life in Dar. Seeing Papa Wemba live, was fulfilling a lifetime dream. He was very laid back, but a magnificently breath taking performance” - Rosemary Rampling retired expat visiting
• “The two Kenyain Bands both offered something refreshing new. I was very impressed, in fact the whole festival has been well organised, a great weekend for me and my friends” – Shema Mushi from Arusha
• “Special place, beautiful people and great music, what more can I say” – Rashidi Kateta from Zanzibar
Learning Points
• Areas that need improvement included security, if we got the number we previously expected we would have been under real pressure. In addition, next year we will need to print our tickets and wristbands aboard as they were a lot of fake tickets and wristbands being sold outside the venue, hence, the reason we cannot be sure on exact numbers of attendees. Toilets was also a concern, the numbers we ordered were not delivered and the ones that were delivered were not properly maintained.
• What really worked this year was the lineup of artist. We had a strong lineup of local and international acts that really engaged and entertained the crowd. Thanks to our stage and technical crew our sound was solid and the acts flow nicely one after the other with no long timely gaps in between the live performances, furthermore our charming MC’s kept the audience informed and wanting more throughout.
