WHO: Cap’n Crunch SPECIALTY: Solving problems, eating cerealFAMOUS QUOTE: “Stays crunchy ... even in milk.”WHY: So what if Cap’n Crunch cereal had the worst nu-tritional score of any children’s cereal in 2009? So what if eating the stuff every morning as a kid might cause child obesity? Cap’n Crunch was still brave enough to kick some Soggies’ butts. Plus, it was delicious.

WHO: Captain Sam Quint (“Jaws”)SPECIALTY: Annhilating great white sharks. FAMOUS QUOTE: “For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.”WHY: Besides being the most bad-ass shark hunter of all time, Quint was the kind of guy you wouldn’t mind getting a pint or two with. He’d probably be the fi rst to throw a punch in a bar brawl and be the last one stand-ing. Also, his biggest nemesis is a great white shark.

This weekend, movie theaters welcome comic book blockbuster “Captain America,” and edgy Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis rom-com “Friends With Benefi ts.” And while it’s easy to fall in love with Kunis, let’s face it, “No Strings Attached” has been there and done that. My weekend pick is set on “The First Avenger.” The Hunky Chris Evans takes on the coveted role of super-soldier Steve Rogers, which will more than likely have Americans saying “Aye Aye Captain” to the bodacious hero. However, we shouldn’t forget the long line of bad-ass American captains that have graced our TV screens. Here are my fi ve favorite men of honor.

WHO: Captain James T. Kirk (“Star Trek”)SPECIALTY: Leading his crew to victory, lovin’ the ladiesFAMOUS QUOTE: “There seems to be no sign of intel-ligent life anywhere.”WHY: Ladies’ man and leader of the USS Enterprise, Kirk is one of the most recognizable fi ctional sci-fi characters in history. And despite always leading his spaceship to victory, he’s got so much game with the opposite sex: He can score with all female species — alien and human.

WHO: Captain Jack Sparrow (“Pirates of the Caribbean”)SPECIALTY: Drinkin’, fi nding treasuresFAMOUS QUOTE: “But why is the rum gone?”WHY: Sure, he might have an alcohol problem, but he’s defi -nitely one of a kind. Sparrow isn’t as courageous or bold as the rest of the captains on this list (with the exception of Crunch) but he’s defi nitely defi ed hero stereotypes.

WHO: Captain Clarence Oveur (“Airplane!”)SPECIALTY: Flying, asking inappropriate questionsFAMOUS QUOTE: “You ever seen a grown man naked?”WHY: If there’s one thing that I live for when watching “Air-plane!” it’s Peter Graves asking little Joey questions about Turk-ish prisons and gladiators. Oveur is an odd one and without him, we may never have been given the hilarious chemistry with Les-lie Nielsen’s “Dr. Rumack.”

IWRESTLEDABEARONCE THE FESTIVA INTERVIEW

vant-garde metal band Iwrestleda-bearonce isn’t afraid of a little contro-versy. This spring, the group pranked the rock world when they announced

they were changing their musical direction. “Black metal” became their new identity and pictures of the quintet in gothic garb had black metal fans up in arms. But guitarist Stephen Bradley said they were just having a little fun.

“We fi gured everybody would know it was a joke,” Bradley said. “I guess people never learn, I don’t know why, they believed it.”

The band is known for its sense of humor and genre-bending rock, which often jerks back and forth from a variety of styles including jazz, disco, swing and metal.

The Shreveport, La., quintet is one of 24 bands that will be performing today as part of the All Stars Tour at Las Palmas Racepark in Mission. The lengthy lineup of up-and-coming metalcore bands includes Emmure, Alesana, Blessthefall and Norma Jean. Iwrestledabearonce is currently sharing a bus with deathcore group Chelsea Grin as part of the tour. And even though the bus is

cramped with rock star power, Bradley admits it’s better than touring the country in a van.

“It’s nice to be able to relax and sleep, as op-posed to never sleeping and being miserable all the time,” he said.

Bradley took some time out at a recent stop in El Paso to talk to Festiva about the band’s new album, “Ruining It For Everybody,” his must-have tour essentials and what’s next on the band’s horizon.

NINO LOCAL ARTIST

f you’ve heard “Pa La Calle” on WILD 104.1 FM recently, then you already know local art-

ist Nino. Listen to his three albums “Self-Employed,” “Deep in the Game” and his most recent release “Self-Employed 2” and you’ll get to know him even better.

Adrian Niño, stage name Nino, raps and sings about his life on the Valley streets, back when he was using and dealing cocaine.

“I just write about what I’ve been through in my life, and there are other kids going through the same thing and that’s what’s made me successful when I started working on my solo albums,” he said.

Nino lives in Port Isabel and he’s still hustling, but these days he’s pushing his albums and singles in-stead of drugs.

“Anywhere I go, I can make mon-ey with my music,” Nino said. “We go to the low rider car shows in Arizona and California, and we do the Texas Heat Waves and the fl ea markets every weekend.”

He also opened a studio, which other local artists pay to use.

“I’ve applied what I learned in the streets (to music) … it’s the same thing,” he said.

At 13, Nino’s parents split up and Nino found himself running with a crowd of kids who lived the street

lifestyle to get by. “I got kind of left behind. My dad

was busy working, so I’d stay with my friends,” Nino said. “And some things led to other things and I started building up a bad criminal history.”

When a 17-year-old Nino got pinched, he ended up in jail, and then was booted out with 10 years of probation. Before the end of his decade-long probationary sen-tence, Nino got caught again dis-tributing and landed in the Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville for two-and-a-half years.

“That’s what really turned my whole focus into trying to do things better for my kids was when I end-ed up back in prison,” he said. “It was so hard not being able to touch my kids or my wife.

“I made a decision right then: When I get out, I got to make the music work. That’s all I got.”

Now the father of four makes enough money selling his music to pay his bills and he’s walked away from his days on the streets — a life he said he doesn’t miss.

“I don’t have to look over my shoulder no more, I don’t have to wonder who’s behind me or who’s doing what, I can just concentrate on music and write,” Nino said. “There’s no negativity around me no more.”

HOW IS THE NEW ALBUM DIFFERENT FROM YOUR PREVIOUS RECORD, ‘IT’S ALL HAPPENING’? “It’s just way better, it’s more extreme in every direction, the heavy stuff is heavier, the soft stuff is catchier. We just tried to go out of our way to make the record make more sense but still be even weirder and heavier. I think it’s way more cohesive — it’s easier to listen to and the songs are way better structured while still being weird.”

AVANT-GARDE METAL BLENDS TOGETHER A VARIETY OF GENRES. WHERE DOES THE INSPIRATION COME FROM WHEN WRITING A SONG?“We’re not scared to do the dumb ideas. We know other bands who are limited to one thing where as with us somebody is drunk and says, ‘Hey we really need a surf part,’ and we write a damn surf part. Other bands they’ll be like ‘Oh, we can’t do that, people will hate it, that’s weird.’ We’re like ‘It’s (expletive) weird! Perfect!’”

ONE THING YOU NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT?“Our tour dog Milla. She’s a peekapoo … she’s really the most laid-back dog of all time. Other than that, the old laptop. I think with no laptops at this point we’d be in trouble. I gotta be able to Skype, gotta be able to write music and Google stupid videos on YouTube. I can say a tour is a lot better with an iPhone and GPS as well.”

WHAT IS NEXT FOR IWRESTLEDABEARONCE?“We actually just fi nished a movie, ‘cause we’re out of our minds. We shot it on a legit budget, shot it on Red cameras, those $80,000 cameras that Michael Bay uses, we got nuts with it we shot a le-gitimate movie with a lot of (expletive) jokes a lot of gore and a lot of craziness. It’s going to be out on Halloween because it’s horror movie-ish. It’s like Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’ versus Michael Jackson’s ‘MoonWalker’ except nothing like any of those.”
