Feeding Clinic Mankato Clinic Children’s Health Center
Eating is not always easy for everyone. It requires that
multiple systems in our bodies work together seamlessly
allowing us to swallow and digest the nutrients we need to
grow and be healthy.
When a child is struggling to eat—whether it is difficulty chewing
or swallowing, an aversion to food textures, mealtime anxiety or
a chronic health issue—it often requires a team to work together
to ensure that each situation is met with the proper evaluation
and treatment. At the Feeding Clinic, we bring together our team
of specialists from Pediatrics, Nutrition Education, Occupational
Therapy and Speech Therapy to work with each patient and
family on an individual plan for care. This collaborative team is a
cooperative effort between Mankato Clinic and Pediatric Therapy
Services, Inc. The team approach brings new perspectives and
options forward to successfully meet unique challenges.
At the Feeding Clinic, we will assess your child’s anatomy,
behavior, eating habits and overall health. After evaluation,
the team recommends treatments to help each child learn and
develop critical eating and drinking skills and follow-up for
nutritional needs. Sometimes this includes at home feeding
techniques, feeding therapy sessions and adaptive equipment.
If additional specialists are required, those referrals and
recommendations are also made. Follow-up may include a video
swallow study at the Diagnostic Imaging department within the
Mankato Clinic on Main Street.
