If you already know french, you can take this,put peace and easily get an S grade. Otherwisealso it is an interesting course to learn. Just thatyou need to revise every once in a while, to keepup.The quiz/endsem papers are quite easy, she justasks whats taught in class and the textbook. Itwould be mostly fill in the blanks type questions.

The prof is peaceful, givesdecent grades. Only thatshes kinda strict forattendance.

That said, uwont be able to score well if u do not attendclasses. quizes are 20 marks each, with just 1question to answer.endsem may have 3-4 questions. so you need towrite pages and pages. on a whole, easy coursewith most of the syllabus relating to the sci andtechnology development in british era.(eg. trains,telegraph, medicine, surveying etc.)

Course is very interesting. On the daybefore thequiz she discusses some important topics andthe exam questions will be directly from thosetopics. Only you should study them. Someamount of mugging required.

The course is simply amazing. It's a relief fromthe regular core courses. The prof makes thecourse fun, interactive and a pleasure to be in.You can look forward to going to the class.Basically, you do about 10 SF stories the wholesem and critically analyse them.The only thing you need to be careful is aboutyour attendance and punctuality. Even if you area minute late, he marks you absent. And 85%attendance, IS a compulsion in his course.No assignments are given, so peace :)

Very peaceful grading.More of an S,A,B course. Ifyou're decent at writing,without any effort you canput an A.

The course is very interesting and professor isvery good. If you go to class and listeneverything, you can get S easily by spendingonly 3-4 hours before the exam. It will give Ubasic knowledge of the Economics.

It was good course, though it will be very vaguetill the end. The project given in course is themost important and teaches a lot. Rest, u willhave a lot of submissions and deadlines. Makesure your class rep is in good terms with her,and let class remain in unity, then deadlines canget extended!

you need to be good atboth the presentation andend sem for good grades,because grades can getrandom otherwise if u relyon either.

Very well structured course. Prof is veryencouraging and the classes are interactive.Course is very interesting too, even if you don'tlike Science Fiction. Attendance is VERYSTRICT. Being in class on time before it starts isa must. Even if you are a minute late, he won'tlet you in. However, all this is worth taking aclass with Smo.

Normal. Smo is notbenevolent with hisgrades, but if he reallythinks you deserve itmanaging an S or A is nothard. Interaction in classcounts for a lot.

Very interesting course. Swarna is an awesomeprof and loves student interaction. Wide range oftopics also covered. If you want to enjoy thecourse, take it only if you like literature, reading,and class interaction. Even if you don't thecourse is relatively peaceful but it might not bewhat you are looking for. Attendance-wisepeaceful but she gets pained towards the end ofthe sem when people start slacking off.Presentation will be there, but you have a lot offreedom with it. It counts as quiz 2 so noslacking off allowed there. Regardless, it is alsointeresting.

Quite peaceful. Verynormal with her grades,doesn't shower them onyou but doesn't hold themback either. Once again,class interaction counts,and if she is impressed byyou she won't hesitate togive you a good grade.

The content is quiteinteresting.But the teacher gives several assignments, writeups, blogs to write. Quizzes are peaceful, fromwhat she teaches and emphasizes in class, notvery high funda.Strict about attendance.

Hardly gives S grades.Rest all grades are givenin appropriate amounts.

Relatively straight forward course. Includeslectures mainly by Binitha Thampi along with afew guest lectures. No quizzes are taken, but thecourse involves intensive project work - (Articlereviews, Blogging, commenting on other blogs,presentation).This comprises of 50% of the grade.

No quizzes. Endsem iseasy. Questions forendsem (50 % weightage)are given in advance andexactly the same areasked. But marking is a bitstrict. Absolute marking isdone. Getting grades isvery easy if proper classnotes are available.

Peacemax course.... The TA was painful andattendance was slightly important but overall oneof the most peaceful courses I have ever donebut obviously except story writing you won't learna lot. Would recommend if you want to just putpeace.

Remember that it deals with international rightsnot Indian rights. Half of the couse is on Historyof human rights(too boring). I personally felt ituseless course except the small part which tellsabout UN. You will have a quiz, term paper andend sem. I would prefer this course onlybecause you can complete 4 credits. Trychoosing economics(it really helps although umay not go to economics stream) or languagesor Indian National Moment(if you are interestedin Civil services)PROS: 4 credits, peaceful Professor, even 70%attendance would be fine, Although its a 4 creditcourse there will be 3 courses per week andmany classes gets cancelled from them(finally 21/2 credit course), only 1 quizCONS: Boring course, no use

Remember many HSstudents would be takingthis course along with you.So, S grade is verydifficult. Mostly the gradeswould be A,B,C for B.tech's. I along with many ofmy friends got a B grade.

It is a very interesting course, gives you an in-depth idea about international politics anddiplomacy. Prof is also very good and classesare more of discussion style. But downside isthat she gives a lot of readings and expects youto read and come for the next class, discussionsare generally based on the readings given. Soit's sli pain from that aspect. But I and a lot of myfellow classmates didnt read regularly, and itsnot very difficult to catch with what she'steaching. Be active and ask questions in class. Ifits your placement sem and you already have 4-5 other slightly painful courses then dont take it.

Grading is not peace, butshe grades leniently for B.Techs so if you put slibefore exams and isregular to class you canput off A; S if you put morefight. I got raped in quizzesbut still ended up putting B.

It is basically more of Grammar than any thingelse. This course equips you with a thoroughunderstanding of how to write technical papersand reports. You can learn lots of stuff in thiscourse.

If you have a thoroughfundaes of high schoolEnglish grammar, then it isa peaceful course. Butattendance is very strict.The prof. won't allow u in,if you r late by at least 1minute. Regarding grading,u should put fight, for goodgrades.

Thecourse material is interesting too, you'll get someidea about international politics, diplomacy etc.There is just 1 book he mentions as referenceand if you're regular to class, class notes will besufficient for exams. Prof is also interesting.

Grading is also peacedout. S,A,B unless you cupit badly.

The course was extremely interesting. he's sucha fun guy who loves Germany and so tells us alot about the history of Germany, the folk music,he brings his guitar and teaches us germansongs, tells us about the german food andlifestyle. German I is quite easy, but german II isrelatively much difficult. You dont have to takeGerman II necessarily but both the courses assuch are damn interesting.

Grading is purely based on2 quizzes and endsem. It'snot difficult to put an A ifyou listen in class andstudy before exams. Youcan get a C if u suck

At the start seems a very boring course.Gradually picks up and is quite interesting.Preferable if one has good vocabulary. Alsogood if one has knowledge of Indian caste,class, village systems. Quite a few readings toremember for end semester. Not an open book.Also, one needn't be too objective. Less of factsand more of one's views.

Peaceful. Not much load.One Quiz, onePresentation which doesnot take much time. Examis half objective (MCQ) andhalf subjective.

The classes are fun. Attendance ii notcompulsory but you would not want to missclasses. Remembering characters can getpainful, but the exam is open book. the grammaris almost non-existent and the etymologyinteresting.

If you are attentive inclass, good atremembering strokes, andstudy the day before theexam, you can put S/A.The end sem is the mostimp one.

Professor is very student oriented and with histeachings, aims to build a self-thinking capabilityamong the same. He doesn't want his student toby-heart any stuff. He just asks them to writewhat they actually think of the given question.

Course is interesting for those who love to read.The course will cover texts by greatphilosophers, lot of philosophical theories likeexistentialism, Absurdism etc etc. There will be atextbook (xeroxed) given by the professor andshe will follow it throughout. She will also teachusing PPTs which she will distribute through theclass rep.You should have presentation skills, good writinghabit and a open mind to read literature. Thestories covered are mostly tragic and have manylayers of meaning. However the professor willguide you through all of them. She is quitefriendly but quite strict about attendance(especially during presentation days) andpunctuality.There will be lots of discussion in class and sheis very open to opinions which makes classesinteresting.If you really like reading novels etc , you will lovethis course. You may have an advantage too!

Its not an easy goingcourse if grades areconcerned. You shouldhave good writing skills asyou have to write 150words, 200words answersin quiz.There will be apresentation instead ofQuiz 2 in which you willform a team (of 2 mostly)and choose a text of yourown and present it toclass. She will guide youfor this too.She corrects paper basedon your grammar, spellingsand points you havecovered. So make sureyou don't put lot ofgarbage but only goodconcise points. (She gaveme 3/5 marks for 4 lines asit covered all vital points)

I can say that it is not arbit.You get what you deserve. Mostly you get an A or B ,but we cannot rule out thepossibility of other grades.

Overall very fun course to haveas your HS elective

I got A in german I but S ingerman II where there wasmuch more personalattention. Stefan wasforced to follow theabsolute grading stuff so90+: S 80-90 : A and soon. Hard to get S unlessyou really know the subject

The course deals the basics of economics - likeinflation, value of money, costs of production,various models of competition - monopoly,oligopoly etc. and finally federal reserve bankingsystems. It was supposedly a four credit course, but weended up taking only three class a week (:P) IIRC, there was one mid term and one finalexam as well as a term project - no analysisrequired, just a review of various economicmodels or current issues. The course strictly follows a book (which shouldbe easily available in LAN) called Prinicples ofEconomics by Gregory Mankiw. Check this bookif you want to know the course in detail. Thecourse overall is EASY to follow and score.

Grading is fairly good, andthe course is also easy tofollow, if you stick tobasics, you can scoreexceedingly well.

Among the better HS courses. You will be taughtabout interesting theories about societypropounded by Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, MaxWeber to name a few. Some of he questionsdiscussed are very fascinating especially (butnot necessarily) if you enjoyed reading novels byauthors like Ayn Rand and George Orwell. Prof.Santhosh is also a good guy. Very Sincere andenthusiastic to say the least. As an application,he made us write an essay on the merits ofreserving seats for backward castes in highereducation. Some of Durkheim's work on "Suicideas a social phenomenon", and "Criminals andcrime in society" is very interesting. In one line,Sociology broadens your view and makes youless bigoted, more willing to view events from adispassionate and rational perspective. It willcertainly help you to broaden your thought.

grading is quite rationaland certainly not eccentric.You will get the grade youdeserve. Lot of A's in ourclass and one or two Sgrades

Excellent course. You will do a selection of shortstories by famous science fiction writers. You willneed to be sufficiently good at essay writing.More than the English aspect, the classes tendto veer towards a philosophical aspect, andrelies heavily on class participation. The classeswere really entertaining and left me deeplythinking about several issues with relavance totoday's world.The prof is very strict aboutattendance though.

This course is very interesting if u are a guy/girlwho is too much into novels and books, elsedon't even think about it. For those who like novels, well where else can uget credits for doing your hobby. *Good English is pre-requisite to enjoy this stuff(U know all that Shakespeare and other foreignwriters )

The course has a few nice points, but it is notworth it. Quizzes are 40 marks each and endsem is 120 marks. Extremely long. Portionscomprise mugging some chapters from this bookcalled "Consumer Behavior" by Leon G.Schiffman. Might want to go read the book tosee if you are interested. All in all, not a verygood option unless you just want the grade aresome God at mugging.

Grading is relativelypeaceful. If you can mugwell, you will definitely getA/S. However, beware -there is a LOT to mug.WHOLE book will be therefor endsem :P

Load was heavy, but if you mug you can getgood grades. Don't ever ask the prof. to removequiz II and instead have a project. You will getpained with projects. At the end, you will be able to appreciate thepain taken to design an object. There is nothingyou learn to design, You only learn the history ofdesign evolved with changing face of the world. The prof. is strict with the rules. But she lovesteaching. She is strict about attendance.

Grading was doneaccording to the rules.

It's a wonderful course. The prof is very muchenthu about the course material, veryknowledgeable, friendly and flexible. I neverthought art and history could be this interesting.This course was a relief from my core courses.But, for the exams, u need to mug a decentamount. Attendance is somewhat strict. Also, wedeal mostly with temples and stuff, in thiscourse. If you are not interested, don't put.

If you listen to classes andput fight before the exam,you'll not get less than B.

This course is very interesting though requireslittle bit mugging. Class notes are sufficient. Thelectures were too good. There was no Quiz II,instead there was a project which required 3-4days work.

The grading is peaceful(S-A-B). Studying a daybefore exam could easilyfetch you A/B.

The first thing you must know is that this courseis *wrongly named*. Most of the course we didpoems - yes a total of 10 poems! We did notstudy any novel/long story at all. However, wedid study two short prose pieces, by two obscureauthors. We also had the short play 'DoctorFaustus', by Christopher Marlowe as a readingassignment, but was not discussed in detail inclass. We studied the following poems, all famouspoets:1. On His Blindness, by John Milton2. Sonnet 65, by William Shakespeare3. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, by T. S.Eliot4. An Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard5. an Ode on a Grecian Urn, by John Keats6. Kubla Khan, by Coleridge7. Sailing to Byzantium, by W. B. Yeats8. My Last Duchess, by Robert Browning9. The Unknown citizen, by W. H. Auden10. A Valediction Forbidding Mourning, by JohnDonne Though the course had an overload of poetry,the poems are actually well chosen. Prof.Tripathy is also kinda fun and is an interestingspeaker. He is very knowledgeable. He is strictand does not tolerate coming late or sleeping inthe class. He is also strict with the attendance. Its not a very heavy course, and you can getdecent grades if you just listen attentively in theclass. There were absolutely no homeworks,written assignments or presentations. Classes are fun and the prof has a lively senseof humour. You can't sail through this coursewith zero studying, though: you will need to putsome fight to learn characters and tones. Butexams are not very painful, and neither isattendance.

It is not difficult to get anS/A, but you can't do itwithout any studying.Characters are a bit of apain. But on the whole, itwas a good experience,and I was enthu enough totake Chinese 2.

An amazing course. Extremely fun, if you likereading Asimov or Clarke. Otherwise also, it's agood place to start. Note that S Mohan coversonly short stories for the entire course. A++

1st point that every student who took this coursewill tell that Prof is psycho.He wont allow you to class even you are late by1 minute and very strict about attendance,I lost 6such classes.Friday 8 am class is really painful as you got tobe punctual.This is really an interesting course for those wholike debating,and interested in watching SFmovies,novel reading,proficient in English etc..

Peace max grades...Youneed not worry aboutgrades but for W grade asyou got to be cautiousabout attendance.


The course was pretty decent in terms ofcontent. Workload was not much. It basically is adiscussion of short famous science fiction stories.The only issue that may come up is thestrictness of the professor. He is very good atteaching but strict with discipline and time.He will not let you in if you more than 4-5 minslate and <85% attendance is not tolerated.

Grading is not very bad. Allyou need is basic englishto get a decent grade inthis course. By decent imean 'B'.

A good first course in economics. You will get tolearn the basics which is very essential.Examples are given in the environmentalcontext. The prof isn't that great, he is ok.

Not very harsh. We had apresentation, midsem andendsem. Participating inthe class will definitelyboost your grade

Honestly, I am not a big fan of classic literature.You will be studying all the classics, P&P, JaneEyre, books by Dickens, a few short stories. Wehad a presentation on a novel of our choice.Good course if you like reading the classics.Otherwise the class will seem boring.

Decent. Participation inclass helps.
