WORKSHOP SESSIONS

1530 Delegates must nominate to attend one of three simultaneous sessions:

Extension in the dairy industry – Prof Mike Hutjens will lead the workshop firstly with some observations on his experience in the US and other countries covering concepts such as current extension methodologies and the future, challenges, what it takes to be an educator, guidelines for being a successful educator and cost recovery – leading in to an open discussion on what are the requirements and implementation in Asia.

Practical guidelines on dairy feed formulation and how both farm and consultant can be on the same platform using a practical user-friendly formulation program – Dr Steve Little will run a live session demonstrating through the Rumen8 program how key principles and objectives can be met and shared. Participants will be able to download the Rumen8 program before the workshop and get a shared experience how it works and some practical examples through the workshop.

Tips on constructing an effective diet for energy balance post-calving

Global milk production is forecast to increase to 829 million tonnes in 2018 expanding by 16.9 million tonnes, up 2.1% from 2017. However, two thirds of the growth in the coming years is expected to come from within Asia. Asia is the growth engine of the global dairy market but to date there has been limited platforms and technical interchanges to serve this dynamic market and the range of systems and challenges

within the region.

To assist the rapid growth and help augment change and information transfer in the Asian dairy market we are delighted to present the 2018 Dairy Feed Quality Conference. Drawing from an impressive range of quality speakers with extensive global and local experience, the program has been thoughtfully constructed to provide a framework of key principles and as it progresses will build on regional experience and application. There is a heavy emphasis on practical implementation “back home”.

The conference will include three themes:• Formulating for improved outcomes in dairy rations - feed formulation is central to feed efficiency, potential production, cost of production and rumen health. The program will examine the requirements in the Asian region for the range of farm sizes, environments and systems. • Nutritional strategies for health and performance – First priority for health and performance should be a sound nutritional base – prevention before cure. The program will update with the latest findings impacting health and performance in our region.

• Essentials for enhanced reproduction and breeding. It is well recognised that reproductive performance is a key driver of economic performance but in the region has a large scope for improvement. Some of the basics for improvement will be outlined.

In addition to the presentation program, the potential value to the individual needs of attendees will be augmented by the option of choosing one of three workshop sessions – based on the key themes of practical and interactive formulation overview (and interaction between nutritionist or consultant and farm); dairy extension in Asia and evaluation of Asian dairy systems. This innovative part of the program will take elements of information developed in the presentations and allow a vibrant interaction of speakers and attendees, capturing a wide base of knowledge and inputs.

The opportunity to interact in the workshops, the breaks or the social evening provides an unequalled opportunity to take advantage and share knowledge with speakers and attendees who will be specifically based in the industry.

The design of the program and interaction ensures high relevancy for anyone whose interests interface with dairy nutrition and management – whether that is feed production, management of a dairy enterprise, senior executives of dairy agribusiness organisations, milk cooperatives and processors, animal health and nutritional suppliers and consultants.

We look forward to welcoming you at the event.
