Introduction
§102-34.120— If the Government motor vehicle displays U.S. Government license plates and motor vehicle identification, you do not need to register it in the jurisdiction where the vehicle is operated, however, you must register it in the Federal Government Motor Vehicle Registration System.

Background
Agency-owned vehicles need to have a current government
license plate and be registered in the FMVRS.
GSA Leased vehicles are updated and maintained in the FMVRS
by GSA.

All records in the FMVRS are available to law
enforcement through NLETS (National Law
Enforcement Telecommunications System)
Federal Law Enforcement Agencies
Local and State Police
Traffic Cameras, Toll Booths etc.

License Plates
Current government license plates require an expiration date
Must be updated in the FMVRS as “RC” or received by Agency with 30
days of shipment.
After 30 days of inactivity plates will be updated to “MS” or Missing
Must be assigned to a vehicle record in the FMVRS

Vehicles
Most newly purchased vehicles are added automatically by Auto-
Choice with information provided by Auto-Manufacturers
Vehicle records require current POC information
Complete records are eligible for a Vehicle Identification Card
GSA Leased vehicles are maintained for customers by GSA, any
updated should be made by Fleet Service Representatives
