We’re excited to announce our new program to help encourage our younger members to make frequent deposits into their savings account. It’s called the Deposit Stamp program and will work like this: On their next visit to the credit union, we’ll give

them a Deposit Stamp card. Each time they make a deposit of $10 or more, we’ll stamp their card. Once a Kirby member’s card is filled, they can turn it in for a prize.

During the month of April, we’re celebrating Youth Month. The theme this year is “The Science of Saving,” showcasing fun, sci-fi inspired char-acters. Science has proven that if you start with small goals, saving your money can become a regular habit. Every child dreams about their future. Some of those dreams may require money to come true. How do you help your children achieve their dreams?

One way is to help them learn how to save their money. To get your children into the savings habit, start by having them cut out pictures of something they’d like to have someday and post the images where they’ll see them often. Then help them open a savings at United 1st FCU if they don’t already have one. Encourage your child to make reg-ular small deposits each week and learn about the science of saving.

Hours of Operation All Member Service Centers Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 9am—5pm Wednesday: 9am—1pm Drive-Thru open at 8am Kingsland Friday: 9am—6pm Saturday: 8am—Noon (Drive Thru Only) Waycross Friday: Open until 6pm

It’s hard to believe another hurricane season is once again upon us. So we thought it might be helpful to share some money-saving tips for preparing your emergency kit. First and foremost, talk with your family about your plan such as where you will go in the event of an emergency. There’s no cost involved yet having a structured plan can help ease anxiety during a crisis.

Second, have your emergency kit assembled well in advance of a potential storm. Many stores sell prepackaged kits but to save money, you can easily assemble your own. Be sure to include at least one gallon of water per person per day, non-perishable food, flashlights with plenty of batteries, first aid kit, cell phone charger, medications, food for your pet, a pocket knife, copies of important documents, and a local road map.

You’ll also want to have some cash on hand too as debit machines and ATMs may not be functional in a power outage. Try setting aside $5 every week for your emergency kit, resulting in over $250 after a year. This cash on hand can make a huge difference, especially if you find it necessary to evacuate.

While it’s hard to prepare for every possible scenario, start with a plan and a kit that makes sense for your family. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, where we’ll keep you informed of our office hours during severe weather.

Your student’s United 1st Debit card gives them access to thousands of surcharge-free ATMs through our national network. Then by opening a United 1st VISA Credit card forthem, you can help protect them from those unexpected expenses they’re sure to encounter.

Both our Debit and Credit cards come with Scorecard Rewards points, which can come in handy for

dorm supplies, fuel and much more!
