FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER Cadet Battalion Commander’s Notes By: Cadet Fernandez, MSIV As the New Year begins and my time here at UNM comes to an end, I have become increasingly nostalgic of all that I have done and become as a person. There is something to be said about the increasingly greener trees and warmer days. Like the trees, we can start anew but continue to grow and progress in the direction we need to go. My fellow MSIVs are intent on helping Cadets in their growth as future leaders. Our own mentors had dared us to approach challenges with confidence and humility. There were many challenges along the way but in those challenges, we learned. We now share our experiences of failure with other Cadets, so that they too can experience success. Rub the sleep from your eyes, Lobos! It’s time to get back to work! We hope you all enjoyed your winter break and feel well-restored for the spring semester. Although this is the tail end of the year, do not lose sight of your goals and stay motivated. We encourage you to try new things, whether they be campus organizations or Cadet-led programs. Become involved in your community. Let’s make this semester one for the books! Our Professor of Military Science was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 1 February 2017. Congratulations LTC McKaig!
