This command and call is focused locally as well as globally, whenever and wherever the need for Christ's love is revealed. Everyone who participates in the ministries, the worship, the activities of Albert Lea Church of Christ-Christian should not only be fully aware that we support various missionaries and mission ministries but that we are all contributors to these ministries as well. We will soon be calling for an organizational meeting inviting ALL who have an interest in “missions” to consider what we are doing and where we are headed in our Missions Ministries. This is a missions active church and we should all be a supportive part of that. We will soon be better informed, have the opportunities to become more involved, and to lift up greater praise for these vital works within God's Kingdom. In the mean time, please PRAY!

Focus on Our Families Darwin Dolph

2010 started out to be a very good year until June 17th. The weather turned from a typical day to tornadoes striking all around us, bringing all of us a new reality of how fragile our lives can become. Everyone came together to assist where needed. This also motivated me to become involved with friends and strangers by digging out my chain saws, rolling up my sleeves, fighting off mosquitoes, and braving the heat to assist others in their time of need. It gave me great joy to be able to help and to make a little difference in some of their lives. I had the joy of becoming a great uncle to two darling little girls and I finally got the chance to meet my new daughter-in-law this year. My son, James, after being married for one year and five months, was able to bring his wife home to Missouri from Shang Hi, China. She taught English in China. What a wonderful joy to meet her in person. To all of you who know me, my greatest adventure was my Alaska motorcycle trip in 1988. If you have the time I would be glad to tell you all about it - just ask me. Mary and I enjoyed the opportunity to help with this year’s Live Nativity. It makes us feel truly blessed to be part of all the church family activities. I was nominated and have accepted the offer to serve this year as a deacon in the church. I was again blessed at Christmas time to talk with all of my three children and to catch up on their family activities. May God bless each and every one of you.

Revelation through SALT & LIGHT By Vern Harris

You are the salt of the earth… Matthew 5:13 How are we to take that statement of Christ directed to his followers? Is it a challenge, a compliment, or a simple state-ment of fact? Notice that the words are not given as a command but more, I think, as a description. You ARE the salt of the earth. So, are we flavoring, or preservative, or a simple disinfectant? Is Jesus saying we are the basic, dependable, no frills substance that holds the world together? I suppose we could make an argument for each, but here is one you may not have thought of: When there is a wound, the presence of salt brings pain. When we stop to consider that all the world is wounded, injured by the effects of sin, then to the world the followers of Jesus are a pain. We should be a painful reminder of righteousness in the midst of moral failure. We should be the voice of correction in a world that doesn’t want to hear it. We should be a touch that brings purity in a world badly in need of disinfec-tant. We should be that kind of salt. You are the light of the world… Matthew 5:14 Ever been in the depths of a cave? I don’t think I ever knew what darkness was until I was on a cave tour and the guide had all the flashlights turned off leaving us blinded in a darkness that had no end. Then, after a couple of uncomfortable minutes in that total absence of light, the guide lit a candle. It was blinding! It was a blaze too bright to look upon, like a floodlight suddenly brightening a midnight sky. But it was only one candle; it was only bright because of the darkness that surrounded it. There is no darkness in this desperate world that the light of Christ can’t chase away. There is no dark corner too re-moved for the radiance of his love to warm and brighten. You are his light, his candle, his brilliant beacon to a world grasp-ing through the blackness for a hand to hold, a voice to guide them. Sometimes we may feel like we are being a pain, a nuisance to a world that would rather not notice their despair, the wounds from their sin. But we are needed and we are called. Without the sting and the light the need goes unheeded but with detection the need for healing is revealed! Sometimes we may wonder whether our little light has much purpose, but in a world groping in the pitch black of sin’s stain, we are a dazzling beacon. Let the simple, natural qualities of your faith shine through and do their work. Don’t still the Spirit’s voice as he would speak through you. Don’t hide the Lord’s light because the darkness didn’t ask for it. You ARE the SALT of the earth, the LIGHT of the world. Praise God for the revelation of truth and joy of healing!
