Goodwill Industries of Southeastern MichiganIn November 2017, Goodwill received a very generous grant from the La-Z-Boy Foundation to assist in its transportation needs. Goodwill utilized these funds to purchase a new 2017 Ford Transit van for their Monroe Training Center. This 12 passenger van has been converted to accommodate 8 passengers, along with space for two wheelchairs. This van has been put into the daily rotation of vehicles used for Goodwill’s Monroe community integration program. Cindy Petrowski, Monroe Program Manager, says “This van opens up more opportunities for us to bring our participants to new volunteer sites and expand the number of participants we can include in our daily program.” Keith Trost, Executive Director of Goodwill of Southeastern Michigan stated “The funds provided through the La-Z-Boy grant have enabled us to expand our community integration program and provide a broader range of activities to participants.”

Habitat for Humanity of Monroe CountyHabitat for Humanity would like to share about their latest homeowner, Jamie. Here is her story: After her divorce, Jamie and her three children moved into an apartment. She shared parking with neighbors, kept the kids inside, and monitored the television volume. Jamie missed the little things that many homeowners take for granted; until she applied, and was approved, for a Habitat house. In less than six months, Jamie completed 200 hours of sweat equity. The dedication and closing of Habitat’s 96th house in Monroe County took place during November. The family moved into their Habitat house just before the holidays. They were excited for their real Christmas tree and plan to build a flower bed in the spring. Because of Monroe County’s support of Habitat, Jamie became a homeowner again, building strength, stability, and self-reliance for herself and her kids.

Lawson’s Lifesavers LLCNot only is CPR certification the responsible choice, but it is also often the required choice. Employers, even in the non-medical fields are cracking down on employee safety and are beginning to see the crucial importance of this life-saving knowledge. It is hard to imagine having to use CPR on a victim of cardiac arrest, but the reality of the frequency of sudden cardiac arrest in America is shocking; more than 350,000 people in the United States experience cardiac arrest every year. While CPR is typically associated with health care and medical careers, laypersons can too benefit from CPR certification, leverage their careers and even save a live. Introducing Lawson’s Lifesavers LLC, your one stop CPR/AED and first aid provider. Veteran owned and operated by Jerry Lawson, certified instructor with American Heart Association. Find them on Facebook. Call them today to set up your class @ 734-625-5930.
