Opening Hymn Title: "I Want to Walk As A Child of the Light" Number: LSB 411 Stanzas:

1, 2

I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.

God set the stars to give light to the world. The star of my life is Jesus.

Refrain: In Him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike.

The Lamb is the light of the city of God Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Jesus.

Clear Sun of Righteousness, shine on my path, And show me the way to the Father.

(Refrain)

Invocation: leader: PR

LEADER: In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit.

PEOPLE: Amen.

Confession LSB Pg: 151

LEADER: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

PEOPLE: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and

cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.)

LEADER: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

PEOPLE: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We

have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we

have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our

neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the

sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that

we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Absolution LSB 151:

LEADER: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake

forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority,

I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the

Holy Spirit.

PEOPLE: Amen.

Old Testament Reading Text: Jonah 1:7-17 ESV p. 774

Reader: Bob Holden

[7] And they said to one another, "Come, let us cast lots, that we may know on whose ac-

count this evil has come upon us." So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah. [8] Then they

said to him, "Tell us on whose account this evil has come upon us. What is your occupa-

tion? And where do you come from? What is your country? And of what people are

you?" [9] And he said to them, "I am a Hebrew, and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, who

made the sea and the dry land." [10] Then the men were exceedingly afraid and said to him,

"What is this that you have done!" For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence

of the Lord, because he had told them. [11] Then they said to him, "What shall we do to

you, that the sea may quiet down for us?" For the sea grew more and more tempestuous.

[12] He said to them, "Pick me up and hurl me into the sea; then the sea will quiet down for

you, for I know it is because of me that this great tempest has come upon you." [13] Never-

theless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they could not, for the sea grew

more and more tempestuous against them. [14] Therefore they called out to the Lord, "O

Lord, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not on us innocent blood, for you, O Lord,

have done as it pleased you." [15] So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and

the sea ceased from its raging. [16] Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and they

offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows. [17] And the Lord appointed a great fish to

swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. ...This

is the Word of the Lord.

PEOPLE: Thanks be to God.

Epistle Text: Acts 4:13-20 ESV p. 912

Reader: Bob Holden

[13] Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were un-

educated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with

Jesus. [14] But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to

say in opposition. [15] But when they had commanded them to leave the council, they con-

ferred with one another, [16] saying, "What shall we do with these men? For that a notable

sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we

cannot deny it. [17] But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn

them to speak no more to anyone in this name." [18] So they called them and charged them

not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. [19] But Peter and John answered them,

"Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge,

[20] for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard." ...This is the Word of the

Lord.

PEOPLE: Thanks be to God.

Alleluia and Verse pg.156

Alleluia, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia, alleluia.

Announcement of Gospel Leader: PR

LEADER: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the 1st chapter.

PEOPLE: Glory to You, O Lord.

Holy Gospel Text: Mark 1:14-20 ESV p. 837

Reader: PR

[14] Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God,

[15] and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and be-

lieve in the gospel." [16] Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew

the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. [17] And Jesus said

to them, "Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men." [18] And immediately

they left their nets and followed him. [19] And going on a little farther, he saw James the

son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. [20] And

immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired

servants and followed him. ...This is the Gospel of the Lord.

PEOPLE: Praise to You, O Christ.

Hymn of Response Title: "Come Follow Me" Number: LSB 688 Stanzas: 4, 5

“I teach you how to shun and flee what harms your soul’s salvation,

Your heart from ev’ry guile to free, from sin and its temptation.

I am the refuge of the soul and lead you to your heav’nly goal.”

Then let us follow Christ, our Lord, and take the cross appointed

And, firmly clinging to his Word, in suff’ring be undaunted.

For those who bear the battle’s strain the crown of heav’nly life obtain.

Confession of Faith: Nicene Creed Leader: Creed: Nicene

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visi-

ble and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of

His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten,

not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for

us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit

of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and

ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with

glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe

in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the

prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one

Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of

the world to come. Amen

Closing Hymn Title: "O Christ, Who Called the Twelve" Number:LSB 856 (tune: This is

My Father's World) Stanzas: 1, 4, 5

O Christ, who called the Twelve to rise and follow You,

Forsaking old, familiar ways for ventures bold and new:

Grant us to hear Your call to risk security

And, bound in heart and will to You, find perfect liberty.

O Christ, who sent the Twelve on roads they’d never trod

To serve, to suffer, teach, proclaim the nearer reign of God:

Send us on ways where faith transcends timidity,

Where love informs and hope sustains both life and ministry.

O Christ, th’apostles’ Lord, the martyrs’ strength and song,

The crucified and risen King to whom the saints belong:

Though generations pass, our tribute still we bring,

Our hymns a sacrifice of praise, our lives an offering.

I believe that in this meal I am receiving the true body and blood of Jesus Christ together with the bread and wine. 4.) I desire for the Holy Spirit to work in my life to strengthen my faith and Christian witness. Guests who are unfamiliar with the practice of receiving the Lord’s Supper or who have not been instructed in the Lutheran faith

are asked to speak to the pastor before communing. Those who come forward but who are not receiving the Lord’s Supper, such as small children, are asked to cross their arms over their chest to receive a blessing. The cups in the center of the communion tray contain white grape juice and are reserved for those who are not able to receive wine for dietary or other restrictions. All who receive the Lord’s Supper are asked to fill out the “Communication sheet” in the bulletin and register your attendance at Communion by circling your name on the card.

(Please help us in idenfying those taking communion from the pews by raising your hand as the Communion Team approaches the congregaon. Thank you.)
