In an effort to support President Obamas amnestyor illegal immigrants, US Senate Democrats filibustereda unding bill or the Department o Homeland Security. As Politico reports: As expected, Senate Democratblocked a funding bill for the Department of HomelandSecurity on uesday protesting GOP-written provisionsthat would gut years of the Obama administrations directiveson immigration. Te unanswered question remains: Whacomes next? Back on January 10th, Senator Jon ester had this tosay in Te Wall Street Journal:Bill to Deund Homeland

Security Unlikely to Pass Senate An aide to Sen. Jon ester (D., Mont.) said the senatoris opposed to using the Homeland Security budget to rolback the executive order. Mr. ester said in a statementI the House had passed the comprehensive, bipartisanimmigration bill that the Senate passed a year and a halago, we wouldnt be having this conversation right nowI wish the president wouldnt have gone out on his ownbut threatening the Department o Homeland Securitysbudget doesnt solve the immigration crisis or strengthenour borders.

Conservation Districts grew rom public concernor the condition o our natural resources in the early1930s. Poor arming practices, in combination withthe unusually harsh weather, caused massive soilerosion. In 1935, the U.S. Congress declared soil and

water conservation to be national policy with thepassage o Public Law 46. At the state level, theMontana Conservation District Law (Section 76-15-101 et seq., MCA) was enacted in 1939 to allow landusers to orm soil and water conservation districts. oday, Montanas 58 conservation districtsprovide local citizens with an opportunity to shaperesource planning in their areas. A non-paid 7member board o supervisors governs the activitieso a conservation district.

that I see is the insidious move to concentrate alldecision making powers in Washing D.C. I eel thatlocal decision making on natural resource issues isessential to maintain our productive landscapes andhealthy liestyles. I plan, during my tenure, to help the Conservation

District continue and to possibly step-up its role as oneo the major local natural resource decision makers.Tank you or the opportunity to serve Valley County.

Meet Your Area I VCCD Supervisor:By Jody Mason: Itsa amily thing. MyGrandather, OrrinFossum, spent 40 years onthe conservation board.

My ather, Bob Fossum, stepped up behind hisather and served on theboard or 20 years. Whenmy ather stepped down,I didnt ask to ill hisvacancy because sitting on a board is a amily thing. I

did it because I care about Valley County and naturalresource conservation, and that is a amily thing. I graduated high school rom Opheim andattended college in Bozeman where I received adegree in Animal Science Livestock Managementwith an emphasis in Range Management. Ive spentthe past 12 years as a seasonal and proessional with

the Bureau o Land Management. I worked in MilesCity or several years as a Rangeland ManagementSpecialist beore transerring to Glasgow, serving inthe same position. It was a great training ground, covering several current issues acing public landgrazing such as multi-species grazing in core habitat, oil and gas development, and recreation.

I was blessed with the opportunity to bring myamily home to Valley County. My husband, I andour two daughters run cows northeast o Opheim. Our kids are 5th generation on the place. I am proud

o that, though I am constantly reminded o itsstruggles too. I cherish our county history and lookorward to the progressive opportunities well havein the uture. hanks or giving me the opportunity to serveon the Valley County Conservation Board. We havea lot to oer.
