Looking for Easter Cantata vocals Our community people are invited to join together toparticipate in the vocal presentation o THE LAST WEEK,an Easter Cantata depicting the events o the Holy Week.

Practices will begin on Sunday, February 15th at theFirst Lutheran Church in Glasgow. Practice time will be eachSunday afernoon beginning at 2:00 until around 3:30.

Peterson, the author o the popular Gospel song Itook A Miracle, died Sept. 20, 2006, o cancer. He was 84. He was born in 1921 in Lindsborg, Kansas, and began hismusical career while he was still in his teens. During World War II, he served as an Army Air Force pilotflying the amed China Hump. Later, he attended Moody BibleInstitute and served on the radio staff there or a number oyears. In 1953, he graduated rom the American Conservatory oMusic in Chicago and shortly thereafer settled in Pennsylvania tocontinue his songwriting career. He then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where or morethan 10 years he was president and editor-in-chie o Singspiration,a sacred music publishing company. He also served on the boardo Gospel Films Inc. o Muskegon, Mich. or several years. Later hemoved to Scottsdale, Arizona where he continued his writing andco-ounded Good Lie Productions. A ew years later, the John W. Peterson Music Companywas established. During this time, he also served on the board o

Family Lie Radio Network in ucson, Arizona. He had wideexperience as a choral director, and throughout

his career was in great demand as aguest conductor o his own works. Peterson composed more

than 1,000 individual songs, includingIt ook a Miracle, Over the Sunset

Mountains, So Send I You, Springso Living Water, Heaven Came Down,

Jesus is Coming Again and SurelyGoodness and Mercy.

In addition, he wrote 35 cantatas andmusicals. Among them, Night o Miracles,

Born a King, No Greater Love, Carol oChristmas, Jesus Is Coming, King o Kings,

Down rom His Glory and Te Last Week.About 10 million copies o these cantatas and

musicals have been published and sold. In 1967, the National Evangelical Film Foundation presentedPeterson with the Sacred Music Award in recognition o hisaccomplishments in the field o sacred music. He also held threehonorary degrees. In 1977, his autobiography, Te Miracle Goes On, waspublished by Zondervan Publishing House, and a film by the sametitle was released by Gospel Films. In 1986, Peterson was inductedinto the Gospel Music Hall o Fame, and in 1996 at MusiCaliorniahe received the prestigious Ray DeVries Church Music Award.

Much like Martin Luther did during his lietime, JohnPeterson brought music back to the church through his chorusesand Christmas and Easter cantatas, Bill Welte, executive directoro the Keswick Conventio,n wrote. John loved to get peopletogether to sing and worship the Lord, and many o his songs havemade it into our modern hymnals. Welte said Peterson was, one o my great heroes as a manwho lived to encourage victorious living in this crazy, everchanging world.

Hello again from the Capital. Now that the Super Bowl (much to the dismay othe Seahawk ans) is over we can get back to businesshere in Helena. My SB 88 passed the Senate 48-0 and that is the billthat gives the conservation districts the same and equal

bidding rights that the cities, towns and counties weregranted last session in my SB 77. It will go to the houseand I would think it will pass there as well. We are very ortunate to have in the Senate thisyear retired District Judge Swandal. His SB90 torevise penalties and eliminating jail time or certainmisdemeanor offenses (white collar crime) is a great wayor these first time offenders not to be thrown in prisonor jail that is already crowded and costly. Also it doesnot put them behind bars with real bad offenders, but

allows them to do community service and/or pay a fine.I these first time offenders behave and no more offensesthan they can become a part o productive society. Sen. Fielders SB 37 passed 48-0 and that is the billto revise laws or exempt water wells and stock waterponds. Tese olks were told by the State o Montanathey did not have to file or these water rights, ANDthen later the state did not recognize these water rights!Judge Loble was the water judge at that time. Manyo the olks in my senate district brought this to myattention and we have been working on this problem

and I would hope that Sen. Fielders bill will help rectiythis oversight. I am on the Finance Committee in the Senate.Tere are five (5) subcommittees under finance. Teseare balanced by an equal number rom the Senate andthe House. Te Chair o these subcommittees is alwaysrom the House as this is where the appropriationsstart. I am the Vicechairmen o the Natural Resources& ransportation subcommittee. Our committeehelps to set the budgets or Dept. o Agriculture, Dept.o Environmental Quality (DEQ), Dept. o NaturalResources (DNRC), Fish, Wildlie & Parks (FWP),Montana Dept. o ransportation (MDO) and Dept. oLivestock (DOL). We are working on their budgets now. Te DOL is in such a financial mess and they havebroken the law by transerring unds rom one accountto another! Heads should roll and these are producersdollars! Te Valley County Community Foundation willaward its annual grants this spring, grant committeechair Sam Waters announced this week. Te average dollar amount or last years grants wasjust over $1,700, with grants ranging in amounts rom$1,000 to $3,553.

Applications orms and guidelines are available atthe VCCF website, www.valleycountyc.net, and at FirstCommunity Bank in Glasgow. Hard copy applicationsmust be postmarked by March 13. Only applications thatare complete and received on time will be considered.Following completion o the project, grantees arerequired to submit a summary report that includesreceipts or purchases and pictures o the project. VCCF provides grants to non-profit organizationsworking on projects in five areas: arts and culture, basichuman needs, economic development, education, andnatural resources and conservation. Grants have beenawarded to projects in all parts o Valley County, Waterssaid, adding that over the years, competition or grantdollars has increased.
