Dear Friends, This weekend is the 35th Anniversary of the founding of the Preschool. We give thanks that Fr. Engels began this school with dedicated parishioners seeking to serve the needs of families at that time. The Preschool continues to offer this service in a state licensed program that prepares children so well for elementary school work . I want to thank Mrs. Amie Williams, Director, and Mrs. Dana Sunseri, Assistance Director, as well as all the Faculty of the Preschool for their continued generous service to our parishioners and non parishioners whose children benefit from this exemplary program. A few weeks ago our Confirmation candidates went to Landmark Nursing Home for a day of meeting and interacting with the residents there. This Saturday the Candidates return to complete their Retreat experience. Please pray for these Candidates. As you know this is Super Bowl weekend. For the past several years we have moved the Sunday Evening mass to 4:00pm instead of 5:30pm. I do this in order to help lessen the “choice” between going to Mass or watching the Super Bowl on Sunday evening. I hope this helps. ☺ Lent is coming around the bend. Ash Wednesday, February 13th, Masses with the distribution of Ashes are 6:15am, 8:30am, NOON and 6:30pm. There will be Confessions in Church on Ash Wednesday from 5:30-6:15pm. Enjoy Mardi Gras but be a part of Ash Wednesday as Lent will open for us a new path to take. As you can see the road work in front of Church is almost complete. Obviously O’Neal Lane going North is well under construction and will remain so for several months. I hope to see the Left turn from O’Neal onto S. Harrell’s Ferry returned soon. Hang in there as all of this is almost over! Thanks to all who have returned their completed 2013 Financial Stewardship Commitment forms. I am grateful. If you have not done so already, please return your completed 2013 Form to the Parish Office. Its important for our creating the budget for the coming year.

Blessings of the week to you. Love,

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS

Elizabeth Ministry Rosebuds Return The Elizabeth Ministry Rosebud Program has returned to Mary’s Chapel this month and will remain until the beginning of Lent. We are bringing it back at the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision to confirm our commitment to honor and protect all life from conception to natural death. We will pray for and support those who are pregnant, celebrating birth and adoption, grieving miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, infant/child death or those wanting to conceive or adopt. If you have one of these special needs, please select the appropriate color-coded silk roses and place in the vase provided. Each week, we will pray for one of the needs according to the color of a live rose, which will be in a separate vase near the display.

QUEST

February 16th/17th – March 23rd/24th

Quest is a seasonal Sunday, scripture-based reflection booklet used by our Small Christian Communities. As the groups gather each week, they focus on faith sharing questions which relate everyday life to the scriptures. There are even ideas presented for individual/group responses in action! Why not consider joining a Small Christian Community if you are not already a member of one? We are sure you will notice a difference in your faith life. To join a group or for more information, contact our Religious Education Office at 751.2926.

THANK YOU! After 17 years of service to the parish, Barbara and Bobby Williams are stepping down from leadership in the Church liturgical environment ministry. They have

led the committee from the old days in the Church Hall into the new Church building and beyond, making sure that the Church décor has enhanced the worship of our parishioners. Thank you so much Barbara and Bobby for a ministry well done!!!!

The SJV Confirmation Candidates spent the morning of January 19th visiting and playing Bingo with the residents of Landmark Retirement Center. This act of service helped our candidates apply the call to mission to their own lives.
