Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle A) A Sunday Reflection The desire for revenge seems to be ingrained in the human heart. We
forget that the injunction “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” (Ex 21:24) was meant to restrain, so that the aggrieved party would not exact retribution that was greater than the offense.
Jesus invites us—no, commands us—to something higher, yet more difficult: “offer no resistance” (Mt 5:39); “love your enemies” (5:44). “Be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect” (5:48). A tall order, indeed!
Yet, Moses had already hinted at this when the Lord orders, in the reading from Leviticus: “Be holy, for I, the Lord, your God, am holy” (Lev 19:2). St. Paul reminds us, as well, that we are “the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you” (1 Cor 3:16), and that “the temple of God, which you are, is holy” (3:17).
Can we do this on our own? Certainly not. This Lent, let us ask the Lord to bless our efforts at becoming holy as He has asked, knowing that by ourselves we can do nothing. God bless you.

Séptimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario (Ciclo A)
Reflexión Dominical El deseo de venganza parece estar arraigado en el corazón humano.
Olvidamos que el mandato de “ojo por ojo y diente por diente” (Ex 21, 24) estaba formulado para que la parte agraviada no buscara una retribución mayor que la ofensa.
Jesús, en cambio nos invita—no, nos manda—algo más alto pero aún más difícil: “no hagan resistencia” (Mt 5,39); “amen a sus enemigos” (5,44). “Sean perfectos, como su Padre celestial es perfecto” (5,48). Un mandato bien difícil de cumplir.
Y sin embargo, Moisés ya nos había dado cierta indicación al respecto, cuando el Señor ordena, en la lectura del Levítico: “Sean santos, porque yo, el Señor, soy santo” (Lev 19,2). También San Pablo nos recuerda que somos “el templo de Dios y que el Espíritu de Dios habita en ustedes” (1 Cor 3,16), y que “el templo de Dios es santo y ustedes son ese templo” (3,17).
¿Podemos hacer esto por cuenta propia? ¡Por supuesto que no! Esta Cuaresma pidamos al Señor que bendiga nuestros esfuerzos por hacernos santos como Él nos ha mandado, sabiendo que nada podemos hacer por nosotros mismos. Que Dios los bendiga.

What You Need to Know About Lent
EACH YEAR CATHOLICS (and many Christians) commemorate the season of Lent, a special time of preparation before the glorious celebration of Easter. Here are the basics of our Lenten journey toward Easter.
According to the norms established by the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, Easter Sunday falls each year on the first Sunday following the first full moon of Spring. Easter Sunday is celebrated this year on April 12; counting 46 days back, we get Ash Wednesday, February 26.
Lent lasts 40 days in imitation of Jesus fasting in the desert, and ends on Holy Thursday. The six Sundays in Lent are not considered part of the official “Lenten fast”. Holy Thursday marks the official end of Lent and the beginning of the “Triduum” that culminates at the Easter Vigil.
The three pillars of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Lent is a time to practice these essential spiritual practices and clean out our interior house.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting while all Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence from meat*.

Lo que debe saber sobre la Cuaresma CADA AÑO LOS CATÓLICOS (y muchos cristianos) conmemoran la Cuaresma,
un tiempo especial de preparación para la gloriosa celebración de la Pascua. Aquí les presentamos algunas cosas básicas sobre nuestro caminar de Cuaresma hacia la Pascua.
De acuerdo a las normas establecidas por el Concilio de Nicea en el año 325 dC, cada año la Pascua se celebra el primer domingo después de la primera luna llena de la Primavera. Este año la Pascua cae el 12 de abril. Si contamos atrás 46 días, llegamos al Miércoles de Ceniza, 26 de febrero.
La Cuaresma dura 40 días en imitación de los que Jesús ayunó en el desierto, y termina el Jueves Santo. Los seis domingos de Cuaresma no se consideran parte oficial del “ayuno cuaresmal”. El Jueves Santo da fin a la Cuaresma y marca el comienzo del “Triduo” que culmina con la Vigilia Pascual.
Los tres pilares de la Cuaresma son la oración, el ayuno y la limosna. Es el momento de retomar estas prácticas espirituales esenciales y limpiar nuestra casa interior.
El Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo son días de ayuno, y todos los viernes de Cuaresma son días de abstinencia*.

Schedule for Ash Wednesday: there will be Mass in English with imposition of ashes at 8 am and again at 5 pm in the church. Imposition of ashes outside of Mass will take place at 12 noon, in the church. A bilingual Mass with imposition of ashes will take place at 7 pm. Horario del Miércoles de Ceniza: se celebrará misa en inglés con imposición de ceniza a las 8 am y a las 5 pm en la iglesia. A las 12 del día habrá imposición de ceniza, sin misa, en la iglesia. This Lent make your journey to Easter more fruitful by attending daily Mass. Mass will be celebrated in English in the church every morning at 8 am, and in Spanish at 7 pm on Tuesday in the church and Thursday in the chapel. Esta Cuaresma haga que su camino a la Pascua dé más fruto asistiendo a la misa diaria. Tendremos misa diaria en inglés en la iglesia de lunes a viernes a las 8 am, y en español a las 7 pm los martes en la iglesia y los jueves en la capilla.
During Lent there will be a Holy Hour of Adoration after the morning Mass on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the church, with all-day Adoration as usual on Thursdays in the chapel. Stations of the Cross, in English, will be prayed on Fridays after the morning Mass in the church whenever possible. Durante la Cuaresma habrá una Hora Santa de Adoración después de la misa de la mañana los lunes, martes y miércoles en la iglesia; y adoración todo el día como de costumbre los jueves en la capilla. As part of our Lenten observance the parish will hold bilingual Stations of the Cross on the Fridays of Lent at 6:30 pm, followed by other activities. Meet the Saints /Conozca a los Santos ST. MARIE EUGÉNIE DE JÉSUS (1817-1898) — Anne Eugénie Milleret was born in Metz in northern
France in 1817. Her family was privileged, wealthy, politically involved, and irreligious. She was
baptized, however, and her first communion at the age of twelve was an extraordinary spiritual
experience.
As a young woman, she had a conversion experience and felt called to religious life. In 1839, she founded
a congregation that came to be known as the Congregation of the Assumption, dedicated to
education, which she would go on to lead for fifty five years.
Her life is marked by her three great loves – for Jesus Christ, for Mary the Mother of Jesus and our mother and for the Church. At the end of her life she had increasing problems with mobility and speech. Those around her were struck by her gentleness and patience. She died on March 10,
1898 and was canonized by Benedict XVI in 2007.
SANTA MARÍA EUGENIA DE JESÚS (1817-1898) — Ana Eugenia Milleret nació en Metz, en el norte de Francia en 1817, en el seno de una familia rica, privilegiada, políticamente conectada e irreligiosa. No obstante, fue bautizada y recibió la primera comunión a los doce años, lo que supuso una extraordinaria experiencia espiritual.
Más tarde experimentaría una conversión y el llamado a la vida religiosa, fundando en 1839 la Congregación de la Asunción, dedicada a la educación, la cual dirigiría durante cincuenta y cinco años.
Su vida fue marcada por sus tres grandes amores: Jesucristo, nuestra Madre María y la Iglesia. Al fin de su vida sufrió problemas de movilidad y de habla. Los que la rodeaban quedaban admirados de su delicadeza y paciencia. Murió el 10 de marzo de 1898 y fue canonizada por Benedicto XVI en 2007.

Message for Lent 2017
Lent is the favorable season for renewing our encounter with Christ, living in his word, in the sacraments and in our
neighbor. The Lord, who overcame the deceptions of the Tempter during the forty days in the desert, shows us the path we must take. May the Holy Spirit lead us on a true
journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift of God’s word, be purified of the sin that blinds us, and serve
Christ present in our brothers and sisters in need. I encourage all the faithful to express this spiritual renewal
also by sharing in the Lenten Campaigns promoted by many Church organizations in different parts of the world, and thus to favor the
culture of encounter in our one human family. Let us pray for one another so that, by sharing in the victory of Christ, we may open our doors to the weak and poor. Then we will be able to experience and share to the full the joy of Easter.
Mensaje de Cuaresma 2017
La Cuaresma es el tiempo propicio para renovarse en el encuentro con Cristo vivo en su Palabra, en los sacramentos y en el prójimo. El Señor ―que en los cuarenta días que pasó en el desierto venció los engaños del Tentador― nos muestra el camino a seguir. Que el Espíritu Santo nos guíe a realizar un verdadero camino de conversión, para redescubrir el don de la Palabra de Dios, ser purificados del pecado que nos ciega y servir a Cristo presente en los hermanos necesitados. Animo a todos los fieles a que manifiesten también esta renovación espiritual participando en las campañas de Cuaresma que muchas organizaciones de la Iglesia promueven en distintas partes del mundo para que aumente la cultura del encuentro en la única familia humana. Oremos unos por otros para que, participando de la victoria de Cristo, sepamos abrir nuestras puertas a los débiles y a los pobres. Entonces viviremos y daremos un testimonio pleno de la alegría de la Pascua.
LENTEN REGULATIONS
ASH WEDNESDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY are days of fast for all Catholics between 18 and 59 years of age. One full meal and two smaller,
meatless meals are permitted. Abstinence is to be observed on all Fridays of Lent as well as Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Catholics 14 years and older are bound to abstain from meat.
