School will resume on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. On Sunday, February 21, 2016, at approximately 7:20 PM, a phone call was received by the Franklin County Central Dispatch Center indicating a specific bomb threat against Sesser-Valier school on February 22 nd . School officials and law enforcement officers met Sunday evening to: 1) discuss actions to address the threat; 2) conduct a complete “sweep” of the school facility; and 3) investigate the origin of the threat. Illinois Secretary of State investigators, along with their trained K-9s and a team of school staff members, conducted a thorough sweep of the school facility late Sunday night. They did not find any bomb, incendiary device, or suspicious item. However, in the interest of the safety of the school community, school will be closed on Monday to allow law enforcement officers time to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of the community. District officials routinely work with law enforcement officials to help ensure the safety of our students and employees and will cooperate as requested in this investigation. Further, district personnel regularly review the district’s emergency plan with law enforcement personnel, seeking their input on improvements and current best practices. What We Know 1. A specific bomb threat to the Sesser-Valier school building was received. 2. The issue was addressed immediately and a coordinated response plan was established. 3. No student or adult has reported harm or injury as a result of this problem. 4. No unusual or suspicious items were found in the building. We value the confidence that you place in us to provide your child’s education and, in so doing, care for your child. We trust that our handling of this matter only serves to strengthen our relationship.
