There are many staff and Year 12 student leaders who are helping with breakfast club and I want to acknowledge and thank them for their help three days per week. We have been talking about kindness and how we show it, how we are kind with our words and our actions. Online behaviour is something that can easily get out of control and often students can say things online that they would never do face-to-face. I am not a fan of group messenger and these need supervision by parents. There are also ‘apps’ such as YOLO that allow anonymous users to send messages without their name or a fictious name which is very concerning. The reason these are concerning is that you don’t know who is sending you a message and the person can write what they like. You also do not know how old the person is that is sending your child a message. My recommendation with managing your children’s online usage is as follows: 1. Set a limit to the time they are online or on-screen (no more than 30 mins) 2. Do not allow your children to use any app that has anonymous users – delete it! 3. Check online chats such as messenger to ensure conversations and language is appropriate 4. Check your child’s history and make sure they are showing kindness online 5. Charge all devices at home in a central location such as the kitchen and turn off the WIFI so they can sleep! 6. Install safe searching so that it limits inappropriate content being downloaded. Such as https://www.safesearchkids.com/ 7. Role model good online behaviour as adults – no keyboard warriors!! 8. Stand strong when your child says, “but everyone else’s parents let them do it!”. This is simply not true, and you have a right to say NO to your child!! Technology has provided us with so many benefits, but they also come with some dangers that as parents we need to manage. I hope this provides some support with technology in the home. Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

I am pleased to say the students have settled back into school life really well and seem to have welcomed the routine after such a challenging break. We have increased support for any students that are struggling since the bush fires. It is great that the students are openly talking about their worries, fears and experiences and say they feel better after talking about it. Breakfast club has been a wonderful way for us to connect with students and make sure they are feeling ok, enjoying school and general-ly enjoy the company of the kids who come along. There are many staff and Year 12 student leaders who are helping with breakfast club and I want to acknowledge and thank them for their help three days per week.

An area that I would like parents and carers to really think about is how much screen time their children are having and what they are doing

while online. We have been talking about kindness and how we show it, how we are kind with our words and our actions. Online behaviour is something that can easily get out of control and often students can say things online that they would never do face-to-face. There are also ‘apps’ such as YOLO that allow anonymous users to send messages without their name or a fictious name which is very concerning. The reason these are concerning is that you don’t know who is sending you a message and the person can write what they like. You also do not know how old the person is that is sending your child a message.

Thank you Kyra ShannonA lovely email was sent to Sapphire Coast Anglican College by a par-ent whose child is spending some time in the Bega Hospital and wanted to persoanlly thank Kyra for her son’s wonderful gift bag. This was a project Kyra completed with our local Youth Frontiers in 2019.

Hi there,My name is Renee, my son Jackson was hospitalised just before the end of last year. Jackson received one of the amazing care packages from Bega Hospital from Kyra Shannon. It was so beautiful and unexpected. Jackson has autism and an intel-lectual disability we are from Bate-mans Bay. The stay in hospital was very unplanned but this beautiful bag gave Jackson some fun activi-ties to do.Please pass on our thanks Kind Regards,Renée x

Primary PEBy Lisa Louie This term in Primary PE our Pre-Kinder to Year 6 students have been playing a lot of minor games to develop their skills and understanding of a variety of sports through fundamental movement skills. Students are enjoying the games and skills as they improve their awareness and con-trol of their body through locomotive/non-locomotive skills and with/without equipment. Students have been given the opportunity to prob-lem solve and develop strategies and tactics. ‘Hopscotch’ is a favourite game of mine as it is fun to play. It seems like a simple game, but it

challenges their coordination and fine and gross skills. I have challenged the students to practise playing hopscotch at home. Another game we have played is ‘Fly’. Congratulations to Jai Fulton who was our year 5/6 champion being able to leap over long distances. Mr Lambie did prove to be strong competition for him was defeated in the end.

100% Kindness happening in 3MBy Hana Matsuoka-RentonIt has been lovely to get back into the school routine again! The year three students have been enjoying their first few weeks up in the Upper Primary Building with all of newly renovated rooms. We would like to extend our thanks to Mrs Gray, Mr Whyman and Mr Gunner for making our buildings and grounds look so beautiful. We would like to welcome Aalyrah, Arlo and Jonah to 3M! All of 3M have been demonstrating our 100% kindness by welcoming our new students into our class, and asking them to play at lunch and recess. In history 3M and 4W are learning about the states of Australia and have created some beautiful posters with the state floral and fauna emblem on them. We will be displaying these in our corridor! Come have a look when you get a chance!

Back into the swing of schoolBy Lynda WhymanYear 4 are starting to get back into the swing of school. We have been busy learning about the Australian Flag and State Emblems in History and look forward to investigating changes that have occurred in school-ing over the past 200 years. In Numeracy we are learning some formal strategies for addition and subtraction of 4 and 5 digit numbers. The children have been busy sharing their thought processes with each other. We are working on building sentences in English and enjoy 10 minutes writing time about different topics each day. Children are encouraged to write at home too. It could be recording shopping lists, keeping a di-ary, writing about their observations in the weather or nature, or writing about a book they have read. Once they have jotted their thoughts down, we then encourage them to re-read and self edit. We really enjoy our reader theatre’s and are grateful to Maddie’s nan (Nana Jen) for visiting and listening to students read. We have completed our Esio Trot back-ground too and have designed our own tortoise to use as a character in our stories. We had lots of fun in Science experimenting with properties of different materials. Thanks to Mr Pepper for always making our les-sons interesting!A big thank you to Mr Chapman and Mrs Louie for organising a fantastic swimming carnival that involved all of Years 3 to 6. What a great day!

News from 5/6RBy Myfanwy RussellCan you believe it’s the end of Week 4 already! I can’t believe it! It is great to be back from my maternity leave last year and to be back in the classroom again. 5/6R are working steadily, settling into routines and getting to know each other. The theme this year in our room is home and being a family and putting our best efforts and seeing where the year 2020 takes us. Oh the Places you’ll Go by Dr Seuss has helped shape this year for us as well. There is a lot to tell you and I don’t know where to start... we are writing and editing our work; learning about Whole Number in Maths and doing Math Mastery; we are enjoying Sound-waves in our grade groups; learning about electricity and how to use it safely, in Science; tennis (which starts this week), AFL clinic to help prepare us for the Paul Kelly Cup and fitness 3 days a week; art using water colours and geometry; learning about life in Australia after 1788... to name a few! We are also enjoying reading the Bible every morning and praying together. Exciting times in 5/6R and are looking forward to the next fortnight. Until next time :-)

Pancake NightBy Rev. Tim NarrawayThe Anglican Parish of Cobargo (encompassing: Quaama, Bermagui and surrounding areas) has been greatly impacted by recent events. St Saviour’s Church in Quaama was lost during the fire. As part of our bushfire recovery we are having a FREE event for these communities. There will be a family night out for PANCAKE night with a jumping castle and competitions on Shrove Tuesday, 25th February at 5pm. The evening will be held in the grounds of Christ Church, Hoyer St, Cobargo. This is a public event and everyone from these communities is most welcome, come along for free pancakes and relaxed family fun.

Hello everyone!By Angie Russell

I’ve been absolutely loving my time at the college so far! I’m slowly learning my way around and trying my best to meet people and remember everyone’s names. I really like how friendly and helpful all the staff and students are here at the school! Here’s an overview of what I’ve been working on in my classe:• Year 7 ISP students are learn-ing about identity and the impor-tance of history in helping us to understand who we are, because “a person without a history is like a tree without roots”.• Year 8 English students are learning about creation myths

and legends and are currently working on group performance piec-es based on selected creation stories.

• Year 8 Geography students are learning about water in the world and how we can conserve our supplies for a more sustainable fu-ture.

• Year 11 English Standard are studying various short stories and have been beginning to compose their own.

• Year 12 Modern History gave moved on from the dictators and fas-cist regimes studied in Power and Authority in the Modern World, to focus on Japan 1904-1937 for their National Study.

Thanks to everyone who had made me feel very welcome!
