Groundhog Day

Groundhog

Day is a popular

North American

tradition observed

in the Untied States and Canada on

February 2nd. It derives from the

Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a

groundhog emerging from its burrow on

this day sees its shadow due to clear

weather, it will retreat to its den and

winter will persist for six more weeks;

but if it does not see its shadow because

of a cloudy day, spring will arrive early.

A popular movie based on this day

is called, you guessed it, Groundhog Day,

staring Bill Murry and Andie MacDowell.

On February 2nd we will have a fun chat

about the movie and Groundhog Day

history.

Chinese New Year Celebration

Many countries around the

world that have ethnic Chinese people

celebrate Chinese New Year including

America, Canada, many European

countries, India, Pakistan, Indonesia,

Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philip

pine’s and more. We look forward to

making Chinese Lanterns during our

craft times, enjoying Chinese Fortune

Cookies, talking about the Chinese

New Year’s history, and a finale

Chinese Lunch celebrating the Chinese

New Year on February 12th!

New Games & Fun

A new game of Categories is catching

on. It is a word game by which a

letter is chosen and a category. For

instance a category could be animals

and you name all animals that start

with the letter “A” such as aardvark,

alligator, anaconda, alpaca and so on.

It’s not as easy as it looks, but the

resident’s who have played laugh and

show off their smarts!

Black Jack has begun and

it’s really fun! Residents

are excited to show their

card skills and poker faces.

So join us on the second floor

Wednesday, February 10th.

A note from Emma:

Hello!

We have been integrating back to

some normalcy with our activities. One

new activity is that we are enjoying some

intergenerational activities with Girl

Scout troop 60678.

The Girl scout troop

made valentine cards for

residents, and we are

responding with some hand-

made cards to give back to them. We

hope to set up a correspondence that

will connect the girls and residents that

would enjoy participating.

Covid 19 update:

The surveillance testing will start

back up on Tuesday, February 2nd in the

Library at 9:30am. The Health depart-

ment made some changes with the lab

that was processing the testing. It will

be up and running.

On January 29th, Walgreens came

to administer the 2nd COVID 19 dosage

to those who received their first dose on

January 8th. The Walgreens team will

be back on February 17th to administer a

2nd dose to any of the residents/staff

who received their first dose on January

29th. They will start at 9:30 in the

Library.

Thank you for your continued ef-

forts to keep us all safe!

Up and coming events: Mystery Dinner in March

It’s California Country and where there is

wine tasting...there’s also a Murder Mystery.

On March 25th & 26th we are asking our

residents to dress up like an eccentric wine

enthusiast for our Wine Tasting Murder

Mystery Dinner. To help our

residents to dress up and

have fun, we are asking the

families to help dress your

“eccentric” loved ones for

this event. Please communi-

cate with your loved ones to

see what they may need for

this event.

We are also asking for donations of any

kind of “eccentric” accessories for those

residents in need of such items. Examples

would be hats, boa scarves, dresses, shirts,

etc. Anything “eccentric” will do! We have

plenty of jewelry so please do not donate that.

Thank you!
