NEWSLETTER SUBMISSIONS
On Friday, February 1, 2019, thirteen girls obtained a place in the history books as they launched Troop 254, the first Girl Troop in the Roadrunner District. We would like to thank the many people that helped us make history as Scouts BSA officially welcomed us into the Scouting Family.
To mark this momentous occasion, Troop 254 attended the Scouts BSA Launch PARTY, hosted by the Longhorn Council. At the party, we celebrated with the AOL girls transitioning to Scouts BSA, recognized all of the newly
chartered Troops from across the Council, listened to mes-sages from guest speakers, learned about Aquatic School, played with snakes, ate some cake, and found plenty of photo opportunities.
Troop 254, chartered by the North Texas Scouting Alli-ance, meets on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at the Euless First Methodist Church. The NTSA also charters Pack 847, Troop 254B, and Venturing Crew 254. There is a place for every member of your family!
We invite all Webelos and AOL girls along with their fam-ilies to come visit a meeting or join us for a camping trip. The theme of our next camping trip is Shooting Sports, and will be held March 1-3, 2019.
Register for the at camping trip at https://www.troop254.org/events/2018-shooting-sports-weekend/.
For more information, you can email us at [email protected]. Find us online at www.troop254.org or on Facebook at Troop 254, Euless.
Long Awaited Welcoming
The campaign is underway. Some units have already started with many more lined up to go! Keep talking the campaign up within in your units. Remember the importance of why the funds are needed and the pot of gold-
en incentives that awaits those who are successful! Remember the ease of the myfos.org web site and that it can be shared with friends and relatives from wherever! So let’s do a cheer. Give me an “F”. Give me an “O”. Give
me an “S”. What’s it mean? Free stuff! Go, units, go. You can do it!

Off to aGREAT Start
In January, Troop 509 went to the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma for a campout. On Friday night, we met up and loaded into the vehicles with the people we were riding with. On
our way into the campsite, we saw a big buck blocking the road. When we got there, we had to get our P.G. (personal gear) out and set up our tents.
Saturday morning was cold and damp because it rained during the night. Once everyone was up, we had breakfast (my patrol had eggs, croissants and bacon). Somebody brought a football, so we spent some time playing catch. We made lunch (sandwiches) and filled up our water bottles. We got to hike up Mount Scott. The road is closed to car traffic, but we could hike it. It took a while. At the summit of Mount Scott, we had lunch. When we were done with lunch, we went back down and rode back to our campsite. After we made and ate dinner, we had an unusual campout activity – we were able to watch the Cowboys play-off game! We turned in after the play-offs.
For Sunday’s breakfast we had donuts before we got back on the road to home. I really enjoyed this campout and I learned lots of stuff.

Pack 907 had a busy January. In addition to regular den and pack meetings, Scouts participated in Cub-O, toured the NYTEX Center and presented the colors before a Lone Star Brahmas hockey game, assembled furniture and helped in the food pantry at the Commu-nity Enrichment Center and raced in the annual Pinewood Derby.

Troop 509 (Peace Lutheran Church, Hurst) hosted an Open January 28, and the result was a lot of fun! One group of Scouts from the Troop guid-ed visitors through a mock campsite, another group showed them options for setting up campfires, and a third oversaw stretcher races. No first aid was administered, and the “business” section of the meeting was followed
by taste testing of a variety of Dutch Oven cobblers, some opportunities for framing (in photos), and the shar-ing of a small memento to remind them of good times with the Troop!
If you missed the Open House this year, you can still come by to visit Troop 509. See our website at www.t509.org for details and contact info.
Come Find Your SpaceT509 – Adventure Starts Here.
The Troop 86 January Campout was at Camp Constantin. Originally our plan was to spend the weekend launching rockets, but the weather had differ-ent plans for us! Let’s just say our cold weather camping skills came in handy.
We had a great time exploring on a Troop hike, playing games, & partici-pating in team building activities. This month we will be working on our Klon-dike Derby car & getting it ready for the upcoming race. Our team building skills
should come in handy to help us get across the finish line!
Giving the Gift of GlassesPlease collect your old eyeglasses - pre-scription, readers and sunglasses, and bring them to the Roundtable meeting February and March.Glasses of all kinds - new or old, scratched, broken, prescription, readers and sunglasses are needed - all to be do-nated to the Lions Club recycling center.

FEBRUARY 2019 ROADRUNNER DISTRICT
On a chilly Saturday morning in Janu-ary, the members of Troop 254 woke up before the sun started to rise. Af-ter eating a quick breakfast, we set out to learn all we could about horses.
Upon arriving at the stables, Scouts learned the rules and safety precau-tions that must be followed when working with horses and while in the barns. Our education continued with learning about different horse breeds, health problems a horse might encounter, and why a horse might wear shoes. Sad-dles, bridles, bits, lead ropes, stirrups, horns, fenders, and so many other new vocabulary words were learned.
After much anticipation, everyone was finally assigned to a horse that they would be in charge of for the remain-der of the day. The horses were careful-ly groomed so dirt, burrs, or any debris
on the horses wouldn’t cause saddle sores. After the horses were sad-dled, we led them out of the corral.
The afternoon was spent riding and working on skills. Demonstrate how to mount your horse safely.
Turn left, turn right, walk, trot, halt, and dismount. Trepidation soon turned to delight and smiles lit up the face of every Scout.
All to soon, it was time to say goodbye.
However, a few final tasks re-mained. Horses were unsaddled and groomed. Tack was returned to the proper place in the barn. Scouts hauled feed bags to the feeding troughs and gave the horses their dinner. The barn was swept clean.
Many happy Scouts earned their Horsemanship merit badge that weekend. Equally so, many parents have now been bombarded with requests for a new horse join their family.
Webelos, AOL, or anyone looking to visit a troop meeting or attend a campout, check out our website at troop254.org, Facebook at Troop 254, Euless or email us at Scoutmas-ter254.org.

FEBRUARY 2019 ROADRUNNER DISTRICT
ROADRUNNER DISTRICT FEBRUARY 2019
Its time to start looking forward to Elections for this year. Please contact your OA representative to schedule Elections. The Order of the Arrow is an organization for youth members in Boy
Scouting. Its governance and activities are all conducted by members under 21, and because they are the top tier of Scouts, they do it very well, with a sense of commitment to the principles of the Order as well as a big share of fun.
The Order of the Arrow membership requirements are:
• Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America. • The youth must have experienced 15 nights of Boy Scout camping while
registered with a troop or team within the two years immediately prior to the election. The 15 nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of at least five consecutive nights of overnight camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. Only five nights of the long-term camp may be credited toward the 15-night camping requirement. The balance of the camping (10 nights) must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps of, at most, three nights each.
• Youth must be under the age of 21, hold the BSA First Class rank or higher, and following approval by the Scoutmaster or Varsity team Coach, be elected by the youth members of their troop or team.
• Adults (age 21 or older) who are registered in the BSA and meet the camping requirements may be selected following nomination to the lodge adult selection committee. Adult selection is based on their ability to perform the necessary functions to help the Order fulfill its purpose, and is not for recognition of service, including current or prior positions. Selected adults must be an asset to the Order because of demonstrated abilities, and must provide a positive example for the growth and development of the youth members of the lodge.
