Historical Society Presents:

“Meet Curtis Jones”, with guests

Will Schmid and Philip Roethlisberger.

Verona Senior Center

Saturday, Feb. 9 from 10:00-11:30 AM

The topic of our meeting this month will be

Curtis Jones, a Verona native whose

contributions to Verona are still felt by

generations of our school children - even over

fifty years after his passing. Anyone around

Verona in the 1950s will remember him well.

But his name will also sound familiar to those

who have played in or attended a home

Wildcat football game - on Curtis Jones field!

We will learn about Curtis from two of his

friends - Verona class of 1950 classmates Will

Schmid and Philip Roethlisberger. Together

they will introduce us to Curtis as a young man

- valedictorian, athlete, friend, and son of

longtime Verona High School principal A.C.

Jones. We will also learn about how as an

adult he championed a cause for future

generations of Verona students that caused

great controversy and in the end was won by

his perseverance. It will be an inspiring

hometown story worth remembering!

Case Management

Julie & I do a monthly outreach at Sugar

Creek, Prairie Oaks II, Evia, Schettler Terrace,

Park Verona, Noel Manor & the Verona

Library. We talk about what’s happening at

the Senior Center, discuss topics such as

insurance, scam prevention or listen/advocate

any concerns you may have. Former

alderperson, Brad Stiner attends outreach

with us 3-4 times a year at each building

providing updates as to what’s happening in

our community. If you haven't yet, please join

us. Please note that there have been some

changes to the outreach schedule. Info can be

found on page 16. Brad’s name will appear in

red if he will be at your building that month.

Case Management also provides home &

office visits.

Walk-ins are

welcome,

however

calling ahead is

recommended

to ensure that

we’re in and

have enough

time to address

your needs

properly.

Remember when teachers used to

say, “You won’t have a calculator

everywhere you go.” Well, we

showed them!

program your friend enjoyed or have it be

used for the general programming, both of

which will benefit so many people.

Please consider a gift or memorial donation to the

Helping Hands Fund through the Verona Senior Center.

With your donation, you can help Verona seniors with

emergency needs that they are unable to provide them-

selves or obtain through other community resources.

Consider a personal donation, a gift in remembrance of

a loved one, donation to the Fund in lieu of flowers at a

memorial service, or a will bequest to the Helping

Hands Fund – Verona Senior Center.
