XNPS EXPERIENCE
S C H O O L–H O M E P A R T N E R S H I P
Dear Parents and Guardians,
MOE has developed a set of Guidelines for School-Home Partnership, in consultation with
schools and parents, to provide greater clarity on how schools and parents can work together.
Positive and meaningful school-home partnerships will help our children to pick up the right
values and habits as we speak the same ‘language’ at home and in school. The central feature of
the guidelines is how schools and parents can work closely for our children to develop self-
management skills, take responsibility as well as ownership of their learning, and build resilience.
This partnership is most effective when founded on mutual respect and trust. Most of these
guidelines are already aligned to our current school practices. For example, we have encouraged
our pupils to take personal responsibility and reminded parents not to deliver forgotten items to
school, unless it is a medical emergency. In this way children will develop resilience and learn
from their own mistakes. By letting them forget, you are actually letting them to remember. Let
us continue to build on our strong partnership so that together we can nurture your children to be
self-directed learners.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Charles Chan
Principal

Our Big Family Bonding
Xingnan Learning Day 2019
Some were jumping while others were busy running. Our Chinese
New Year Celebration this year took a different approach from our
past practices. After a series of exciting performances at our gala
concert, everyone played active roles in various games and
activities specially planned for this event.
There was a great mix of intellectual, physical, recreational and
collaborative activities embedded with Chinese New Year
elements. During the Games Carnival, pupils moved around with
curiosity, observed with wonder and indulged with passion and
courage. They played their favourite games with their buddies and
at the same time, learnt new skills from new friends. Pupils and
teachers had fun bonding as a big Xingnan family.
Teachers demonstrated life-long learning, took on the role of
students and attended a learning symposium on Xingnan Learning
Day. Guided by the School Strategic Thrust “Empowering
Effective Teachers”, Learning Day showcased a teacher-led culture
to lead one another towards professional excellence.
Pupils learning to write Chinese
New Year Greetings with Chinese calligraphy.
Singing joyously to Chinese New
Year hits.
Using manipulatives to compare
and order fractions.
Strumming away on a ukulele in
an informal and safe learning
environment.

Together We Keep Singapore Strong
We want to be police officers when we grow up. The Junior CD Lionhearters and Scouts are
teaching us CPR.
The theme for Total Defence Day (TDD) 2019 is “Together We Keep Singapore Strong”. This
year, our Junior CD Lionhearters and a few Scout Leaders showcased what they had learnt from
Basic First Aid Skills conducted by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) through theme related
activities. Xingnanians learnt basic first aid skills such as how to prepare an arm sling and conduct
CPR on a mannequin. The Singapore Police Force engaged our pupils in their mobile exhibition
to reiterate SG Secure.
Together We Keep Singapore Strong.
On 15 February, we commemorated TDD and many of our teachers donned their National
Service uniforms. These teachers shared their experiences with our pupils during the
morning sharing. Pupils were inspired and made aware of how everyone could play a part
in keeping Singapore strong!

Exchange from Overseas
Shandong Experimental Primary School from
China visited Xingnan Primary School giving our
enthusiastic P4 and P5 hosts an opportunity to
have a healthy cross-cultural exchange. Our
pupils interacted actively to find out more about
school life in China. They enjoyed hosting their
international friends and look forward to seeing
them again! We hope our visitors had a fruitful
experience in Xingnan.
Thank you for the insightful interaction.
A Close Encounter with Butterflies and Insects!
“This is amazing!” quipped a P2 pupil as she held onto a beautiful butterfly given to her by the
guide. This term, P2 pupils immersed themselves in the theme; “Be Amazed - Living Together”
with a visit to Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom. The pupils had an unforgettable experience with
the creepy-crawlies at the Insect Revolution exhibit and the beautiful butterflies in the park.
The hands-on experience definitely helped the pupils to absorb information better through the fun
learning process. They actively participated by asking the tour guides questions, enhancing their
knowledge on butterflies and insects as they felt amazed being closer to nature.
Our beautiful winged friends showing their appreciation to their guests the best way they know how!
