Pastor Jerry - “Start Of The New Year”
Dear Church Family:
Wow! What a great start to January, 2015, as we have focused our atten-
tion on “Jesus Continued: Why The Holy Spirit Inside You Is Better Than
Jesus Beside You!” I am looking forward to continuing this series of mes-
sages through February.
Also during February, our Small Group Leadership Retreat is
scheduled for Friday evening, February 20, and Saturday, February 21, on
our campus. This retreat is for all of our current small group leaders and
their wives, apprentices and their wives, and anyone else in our congrega-
tion who is interested in learning more about relational discipleship and small groups.
Brandon Guindon, a co-author of the Real Life Discipleship Training Manual, will be leading our retreat
along with five members of his team. It will be a life changing experience as we hear from one of the
most experienced teachers in the current relational disciple shift movement that is being promoted and
encouraged by men like Jim Putman, Francis Chan, and David Platt.
The times are as follows...
Friday evening, February 20 Saturday, February 21
6:00pm – 9:00pm 9:00am – 4:15pm
Please be in prayer for all of our leaders during this critical time for our church. If you are interested in
attending, please contact me via email at [email protected].
It is a joy to serve with you!

Current Sermon Series…
Jesus Continued
In John 16:7, Jesus told His disciples that it was to their advantage that He go away, and He explained to them why the Holy Spirit inside them would be better than Him beside them. What was true for them is true for us. Come and join us in our
worship services on
Sunday mornings at 9:55am
through the month of February
as we continue to discover why
the Holy Spirit inside us is
better than Jesus beside us!
Sermon audio is available
online at westernhillschurch.com.
Paul McKeithan In 2014, your deacons led the church to accomplish many pro-jects on our campus and in the homes of our people. I want to thank each one for your efforts and assistance. The major ac-complishment and the most visible was the surfacing of our parking lots.
Looking forward to 2015, we can always find different needs that our church must address in order to maintain the integrity of our facilities. The deacons and others recently met to determine some priorities that we already know of that need to be complet-ed.
Some changes have taken place as far as weekly responsibili-ties are concerned. Phil Apple is now leading our Security/Door Greeter Ministry. Hugh Sauer is responsible for the heating and cooling of our facilities on Wednesday and Sunday. Nick Perkins has, for some time, been counting the people in our services each Sunday. Others have served anonymously doing much maintenance repair.
If you have any questions concerning our facilities or something you see that needs to be re-paired, please contact one of the deacons. Our current deacons are: Cecil Werner, Greg Werner, Jon Werner, Shiloh Dellinger and Paul McKeithan. If you have a servant’s heart and would be willing to serve as a deacon, or if you would like to nominate someone to serve, please contact Paul McKeithan.
Throughout 2015, you may be asked to participate in work projects. This is a good time to teach your children how to give back to their community and be an example for others.
Through our storehouse giving we try to meet the needs of our members. If you know of needs please contact their Mission Team Leader for support. We also meet with individuals from our community and try to meet their benevolent needs as you give.
I want to thank each of you for your service in 2014 and your deacons look forward to serving with you in 2015.
Paul McKeithan

Brandon Werner - “Why Come on Sunday Morning?”
As our church makes the disciple-shift, several students have asked about the value of Sunday morning. With the focus on relational discipleship, why should we gather corporately?
There is one primary reason we should continue to gather together for corporate worship – to hear from God. Honestly, if your heart is not in a place where you want God to speak to you, than you are wasting your time on Sunday morning. God’s people always want to hear from God. Sunday mornings are an excellent opportunity to do just that.
“But if I want to hear from God, why not pick up a podcast or the Bible?” First, you should! We should all seek to hear from God individually. But take note of this: there is power in hearing from God collectively. As our hearts are turned towards the Lord in unity, the Holy Spirit has the freedom to move powerfully through a group of people.
Finally, consider this: God is committed to speak through the leaders He has appointed to help guide you in your spiritual journey. When God calls you to be committed to a local body, He commits Himself to speak to you through its leaders. When you miss Sunday, you miss the leadership God wants to give you through His leaders.
Next time you think about sleeping in on Sunday morning ask yourself, “Do I really want to miss joining my church family in seeking a Word from the Lord this morning?”
For the Kingdom, -Pastor Brandon
Britt Clay - “Thrive” Lauren and I are honored and excited to serve the church in the capacity of working with those who are
in our College and Career (aka Thrive). God has put a passion in our hearts for this age group for a long
time now. Thank you for allowing us to partner with you and allowing us to do something that we love!
Our first and greatest goal is to glorify God in all that we do (1 Corinthians 10:31). Those who are enter-
ing college and starting their careers often have a hard time understanding what their role is in the
church. We want to help everyone who comes to Thrive understand that we can glorify God in every
stage of life. Just because we are busy with school or work does not mean that we forget to glorify God
in everything we do. We want to commit our work to the Lord knowing that he will make us successful in
our plans (Proverbs 16:3).
One way we are accomplishing this is through Thrive on Wednesday nights. Thrive is a place where
anyone who is in College and Career can come and get connected with people who are in a similar
place in life as they are. Every week will look a little different. We want people to have the opportunity to
hang out and have fun. But we also want to spend time in prayer, talking about what we are learning in Mission Teams, or taking the time to
do some training to equip us for the good works God has for us. We also want to help people get plugged into a Mission Team (small group)
so that they can enjoy the benefits of fellowship with others as well as finding people to disciple them or for them to disciple. We have really
enjoyed the time we have had on Wednesday nights and are looking forward to this time in the future!
Another way we are trying to get people connected is through “Host Homes”. Host Homes are to help people who are interested in being in
very intentional discipleship relationships. We are currently building a team of people who have a heart for this age group. They will be open-
ing their homes and lives to those who are in college or in their late teens and twenties in order to help them continue to grow in their walks
with God as well as helping them with the major life transitions that they are making. Entering college or a new career is not easy. People who
are willing to host people in their late teens and twenties will have an incredible opportunity to make a huge impact on people’s lives. We are
really excited about this and we hope this is a blessing to all those involved!
-Britt Clay
Please pray for us as we get the wheels turning for Thrive. We believe that God has given us vision for this group of people in our church and

Jack Clay - “A Time Two Love”
The family was the first institution that God founded upon the earth. Since that time, the home has been extremely important. The apostle Paul spoke of the relationship between the husband and wife and likened it to the relationship that Christ has with His body, the church.
We live in a society today which is not friendly to the God-ordained institution of the home. Marriage between one man and one woman for a lifetime is something that is deemed as archaic and foolish. Divorce is rampant. No longer does the commitment seem to exist that says “till death do us part.” Rather, marriage just seems to be about what makes me happy and how I can fulfill my needs. The killing of the unborn child is accepted as legal, right and convenient. Child and spousal abuse is on the increase as domestic violence within our homes becomes more and more prevalent.
What can we do to protect our marriage and family? First, our relationship with the Lord must be foremost in our lives. Then, we must learn how to preserve the union that God has placed us in as husband and wife. This month we will once again be emphasizing the marriage covenant as we participate in “A Time Two Love.” Material to help you build your relationship with your spouse will soon be available to you as we seek to have marriages and families that honor our Lord.
