Falls: Information for friends and family

I am delighted to announce that Falls: Information for friends and

family is available to download and print from the Care Inspector-

ate website. This information has been developed in collaboration

Nicky from the Wade Centre have shared some photographs of their service-users enjoying some activities. The

photograph at the bottom shows Day Care service-users doing a pottery class, the first photo is one of their

general assistants Shannon Murray, being shown how to dance by two of the ladies who attend the Centre. The

second photo is Mrs Cathy MacMillan Day Care service-user doing some flower arranging.

•6 month mortality for someone with dementia is 71% following a hip fracture due to falls.

•Care home residents are 10 times more likely to have a hip fracture.

We are delighted to share the news that Margaret Kelly, Hazel Kelly and Heather Boyle have been nominated and

shortlisted for a West Dunbartonshire Employee Recognition Award in the Outstanding Achievement Category for

their work on the project. Good Luck Ladies!

Introduction to Osteoporosis WebEx

Up and About in Care Homes had it’s 3rd WebEx session on

the 25th February. We were delighted to have Marion

Harkness Osteoporosis Specialist Nurse present an

The National Osteoporosis Society are launching some new publications. All of these publications are available

Living with Fractures leaflet:

This leaflet provides a summary of the information provided in our ‘All about osteoporosis booklet to help with

pain and other problems following fragility fractures as a result of osteoporosis. It also provides details about all

the fact sheets and booklets on this subject that are now available. It will be useful for individuals who want to

know what information we provide to help after fractures . This leaflet can also be ordered in bulk (up to 100)

by health and social care professional

They also have a further 5 new fact sheets:

· Financial help after fractures

· Daily living after fractures (includes dressing, sleeping and making life easier)

· Out and about after fractures (includes gardening/driving etc)

· Pain relieving drugs after fracture

· Managing persistent pain after fractures

Up and About in Care Homes WebEx Sessions

We are delighted to announce our next 2 WebEx sessions. On 31st March we have Karen Goudie National

Clinical Lead/Consultant Nurse Older People from Health Improvement Scotland to present on delirium.

We also have Dr Martin Wilson Consultant Physician Raigmore Hospital in Inverness who is going to present on

Polypharmacy and his work on medication reviews in care homes. Dr Wilson will present his WebEx on the 29th

April between 3-4pm.
