Printed using recycled newsprint IT’S AS EASY AS 1 2 3 ! 78th Annual Wisconsin Legion Oratorical Contest The 78th Annual Wis- consin American Legion High School Oratorical Contest was held at Ripon College on Saturday, Feb- ruary 14th. 11 high school students from across the state competed for top honors. Each student appeared on stage twice, the first for an 8 to 10 minute Ora- tion on some aspect of the Constitution followed by a 3 to 5 minute disserta- tion on one of 4 possible randomly drawn Constitu- tional Amendments. The 2015 Wisconsin American Legion Oratorical Contest winners are: Saafia Masoom, a junior at Platteville High School, prevailed in the compe- tition and will receive a $3,000 scholarship. “Our Great Experiment, Our Constitution” was the title of her oration. Rep- resenting the 3rd District, Saafia was sponsored by Platteville Post No. 42. She qualified to com- pete at the National Fi- nals scheduled April 10 – 12th in Indianapolis, IN where she is eligible for at least an additional $1,500 scholarship. The three national finalists receive $18,000, $16,000 and $14,000 scholar- ships respectively. The First Runner-Up is Hannah Boutin, a senior at Omro High School who was sponsored by Post No. 75 and repre- sented the 6th District. “One Little Word” was the title of her oration. She has earned a $2,500 scholarship. Taking Second Runner- Up honors was Carlie O’Donnell. Carlie is a senior at Big Foot High School, was sponsored by Sharon Post No. 130 and represented the 1st District. She has earned a $2,000 scholarship. The title of her oration was “The Connection”. Regional Participants: Natalie Anumolu, is Home-schooled in her senior year. She was sponsored by Post No. 27 in South Milwaukee and represented the 4th District. She has earned a $600 scholarship. Kalan Haywood II, a sophomore at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, earned a $600 scholarship. Kalan was sponsored by John F. Kennedy Post No. 479 and represented the 5th District. Madeline Waskiewicz is a senior at Grafton High School and was sponsored by Grafton Post No. 355. Madie rep- resented the 2nd District and has earned a $600 scholarship. Erik Jass, a senior at Mosinee High School was sponsored by Scho- field Post No. 492 and represented the 8th Dis- trict. Erik also earned a $600 scholarship. Anne Ulrich, is Home- schooled in her senior year and was sponsored by Ap- pleton Post No. 38. She rep- resented the 9th District and earned a $600 scholarship. Jason Lin, a junior at Eau Claire Memorial High School was sponsored by Eau Claire Post No. 53 and represented the 10th District. He earned a $600 scholarship. Callista Wyles, is Home- schooled in her junior year. She was sponsored by Tom- ahawk Post No. 93 and rep- resented the 11th District. Callista has earned a $600 scholarship. Henry Klein, a senior at St. Croix Falls High School was sponsored by St. Croix Falls Post No. 143 and rep- resented the 12th District. Henry also earned a $600 scholarship.
