INTERNATIONALISATION CHANGE PROGRAMME 2012-3

Three Key Achievements- One.

Raised interest in internationalising the curriculum in seven Departments and in the University’s centralised Professional and Organisational Development agency.

Work with Physics Department’s learning and teaching team to see how best to integrate international students.Archaeology Board of Studies wants to set up training workshops for P/G studentsEnglish/History/History of Art has set up training workshops for its research students involved in teachingThe University’s Learning and Teaching Forum has set up a training workshops and the POD team has now included an IoC session in its programme for PhD students going on to teach and in its PGCAP programme for newly-appointed academics.

Piloted practical small-group work intensely in Law and in Social Policy and Social Work.:

using a set of preliminary exercises as well as ‘metacommunication’ tasks throughout the Autumn Term with both Departments, we have achieved a successful IoC outcome in the Law School and a partially successful one in SPSW.

Three Key Achievements- ThreeWorked with the Law School towards assessment procedures which reflect the goals of IoC. We see this as a step towards providing the framework for creating new Programme Specifications and Module Documents.

Trying to move beyond piecemeal activity, personal enthusiasms and the precariousness of Department-specific interventions.

We are steering a way forward by using our Senior Manager on the team to help push further into the POD system and to embed internationalisation into Staff Development, rather than have it as an ‘add-on.
