ACCESSORY MODULE:Required for both Protection and Performance PackageThe first step in the ICON Accessory Pack-age is the Accessory Module, through which all of the accessory packages are powered and controlled. Multi-color LED status indicators monitor the Accessory Package, and Diagnostic Codes signal leak detection. Inlet shut-off valve status feature an audible alarm that is activated if a leak is detected.

PROTECTION PACKAGE: Leak DetectionThis package features an electronic sensor that attaches to base of the water heater and, in the event of a leak, triggers the audible alarm integrated in the Accessory Module which in turn interrupts burner operation. Once corrected, the Accessory module re-sets both the leak detection sensor and gas valve so normal operation can continue. Sensor can be mounted inside the drain pan. If there is no drain pan, there is a rubber dam which is installed around base of tank.

INLET SHUT-OFF VALVE PACKAGE:Automatic Cold Water Shut-Off (OPTIONAL for Protection Package)An upgrade to leak protection beyond the audible alarm, the INLET SHUT-OFF Valve Package away from home...NO ONE can hear the audible alarm...this will eliminate those FEARS by closing off the cold water inlet. Once corrected the , the Accessory Module opens the valve and normal flow continues. The Inlet Shut-off valves mounts directly to the water heater or at any point up stream of the tank.

PERFORMANCE PACKAGE:Energy savings Honeywell fully programmable LCD digital control greatly increases en-ergy efficiency offering full 7-day, 4 period/day (wake,leave,return,sleep)programmable control of the water heater giving the homeowner control of adjusting the set-point temperatures. This also offers a setback feature, once pushed, temperature can be reduced for prolonged periods, offering a highest set-point temperature, for those peak times. LCD user interface, is similar to home heating and cooling thermostat. Read out of set temp. , diagnostic display codes for installation and troubleshooting control can save the homeowner up to 36% on energy usage. The Enhanced Hot Water Delivery Integrated Mixing Device (Included) is the second major component; This allows the water in the tank to be stored at a higher temperature while still providing a comfort-able outlet blending cold water into hot water and can increase by as much as 50% or more. The IMD is factory set at approximately 120degrees push-to-turn hand wheel helps prevent accidental temperature change.

TECH TIPGROSS MARGIN VS. MARKUPSince many of you use a markup system to price your jobs and ser-vice we thought it might be helpful to remind you the difference between markup and gross margin pricing. Keep in mind, Gross Margin must cover your overhead and pretax profit.

All items in your P & L are shown in relation to the revenue. So when you price a job or service the profit you are aiming to obtain should be as a percent in relationship to revenue.

example:

Total job cost: $1,000Mark up 40%: cost x 1.40Sell Price: $1,400This gives a profit of: $400

However when shown in relationship to sales you would have:

$400 divided by $1,400 which equals a gross margin of 28.6%.

Keep in mind that gross margin MUST be sufficient to cover your overhead and profit. So even though you marked your cost up 40%, you only made 28.6% in profit. If your overhead is running 30%, you just lost 1.4% and would continue to lose money on every job when you price in this manner.

Let’s use the same numbers:

Total job cost: $1000Gross margin required: 40% Sell: $1667

How did we arrive at this sell price?

We divided the job cost by the reciprocal of the gross margin wished to make on the job. A reciprocal is the number arrived at when you subtract the gross margin desired from 100;thus 100-40=60.

Divide cost by .60 and the result would be:

$1000 / .60 = $1667

Gross margin is thus:

$667 = 40%

So now, if your overhead is 30% youhave covered that and have a10% pretax, $1667 profit.
