We continue to face financial challenges as the property tax caps and the decrease in assessed values in our service district have again decreased the revenues for the library. Below are just a few highlights of what we accomplished in 2011. The library newsletter went electronic in 2011. We continue to provide the newsletter to those who prefer a mailed copy and have hard copies available at the library. Evergreen Indiana is an invaluable asset that allows access to over six million items and nearly 100 libraries throughout Indiana. The Hamilton County Reciprocal Borrowing program also provides our patrons even greater access to materials. The library received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to purchase two child-friendly workstations. These workstations increase Internet availability at the library, as well as providing a child- friendly browser that is also available for download from our website to use at home. Our dedicated volunteers provide invaluable support to the library, freeing up the staff to better serve our patrons. Thank you for the countless hours they have given to the library. I would like to thank the Friends of the Westfield Library for their continued support throughout the year through their fundraising efforts. The Friends of the Library fund the incentives for the Children’s and Adult Summer Reading programs. They also supplement other programming costs and any special purchases the library may need that are not covered by the operating budget. In 2011, they contributed $1,500 to purchase two LCD TVs to display announcements and information about library programs. Finally, I would like to thank the dedicated staff and Library Trustees for their hard work and continued efforts that make this library a wonderful asset to the City of Westfield and Washington Township. The library board, the staff and I continue to look for new and innovative ways to provide our patrons with quality library services, and I hope the charts we have provided will give you an idea of what your library has to offer and how we performed in 2011. The Westfield Washington Public Library is looking forward to serving your library service needs for 2012. Sheryl A. Sollars Library Director
