ST. ISIDORE CHURCH MACOMB, MICHIGAN 2

How do I recognize God’s blessings in times of need?

This week’s readings are full of Jesus’ teachings about the many gifts and blessings He has given to each of us.

We have food, shelter and the clothes on our back. We have our health, our relationships, the blessing of a new day and we have our own individual gifts. It is these gifts that we can use to help our families, our communities, and our Church.

So, how do I Recognize God’s blessings when I’m in need? The answer is prayer. Christ gave us the Our Father and in that perfect prayer, we can turn to the Lord. Prayer leads to great reflection and that’s when we can really “count our blessings.” In prayer, we realize the Father is always there for us, in good times and in bad.

His Words and comfort clearly teach that we will experience His miraculous provision when we obey Him and understand His seasons of blessing. We can all find true freedom and understand those very gifts that lead us home to the Father.

In times of need, take a deep breath, pray a little harder and remember the many blessings and gifts we all possess as a Church community.

--John Kovacik

CONNECTING POINTIt is so important that we have a much broader view and experience of the Church beyond our own parish. One of the great blessings of being a Catholic is knowing that we are part of a larger faith community, including the Vicariate and beyond. “Onward to the Kingdom” is a great opportunity to celebrate and experience the greater Church. Please plan now on joining us throughout the week.

A full schedule of special Lenten services and programs at St. Isidore will be distributed shortly and is also available online at www.onwardtothekingdom.org. Stay tuned!!

Blessings,Fr. Ron

ST. ISIDORE CHURCH MACOMB, MICHIGAN 4

Monday is President’s Day. Many of our past Presidents worked hard to find aid to support those in need. During the Great Depression that lasted from 1929-1940, Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt had to deal with helping millions of families find food on a daily basis. It is astounding that in today’s world we are still dealing with this problem. Won’t you please help the families in our St. Isidore community with their next meal?

PRAYER BLANKET MINISTRYPrayer blankets & shawls are available at no cost in the St. Isidore church office.

“Each of us has a unique mission in this life. It is vitally important that we do it. Perhaps our lives seem ‘ordinary.’ But the little things we do for others are not unimportant. A kind word or an offer to help can be a saving grace for others. Our prayer and charitable actions directly participate in the saving work of Jesus, no matter how seemingly insignificant.” --MSGR. STEPHEN J. ROSSETTI

Let us remember to reflect on those things for which we are grateful. Let us remember those who are suffering, lonely or needing comfort. Please remember them with one of our hand-crafted prayer blankets or shawls which are free and available in the church office.

Thank you from “The Comfort Crafters”

FROM THE POPE FRANCIS CENTER:On behalf of the guests and staff of the Pope Francis Center, we want to thank you and the St. Isidore Parish Community for your generous donation to our 2018 Giving Tree program. We were able to provide a joyous Christmas celebration for the guests we serve with a nourishing brunch and a gift. Thanks to your help we provided 275 durable backpacks filled with sweat suits, undergarments, socks, hats, gloves, scarves, hand warmers, and some personal care items.

We are so very thankful for your continued support and are truly blessed to have partners like you. Please extend our gratitude to your entire community.

Gratefully yours,Carolyn ComaniGiving Tree Coordinator

FROM THE AGAPE CENTER:I wish to express our thanks for your participation of St. Isidore in our 2018 Sharing Tree program. Through their spirit of giving generously, your parishioners provided $1,000 in gift cards to the Agape Center. These cards were used for gifts or to supplement our pantry needs. In total, together with all our Sharing Tree partners, we were able to help nearly 70 families with Christmas gifts, hams or turkeys, and family gift cards.

As you know, we rely on the generosity of many in our community to help meet the needs of our neighbors. It is so gratifying to work together with other community leaders such as St. Isidore in our ongoing efforts to achieve this goal.

We wish you and your parishioners a blessed, healthy and prosperous New Year

Gratefully,Kathy MollonCoordinator, Agape Center

LECTOR TRAINING February 19 at 7pm for all new and current lectors with guest facilitator Audrey Sommers

Audrey Sommers is coming to St. Isidore Parish with her “Bringing God’s Word to Life” lector workshop. Audrey’s workshop will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19th from 7-9 pm in the church. Ms. Sommers engages lectors with an interactive, fun session that will refresh your passion for proclaiming God’s Word. As lector trainer for the Archdiocese of Detroit, Audrey provides insight into delivering God’s message for each season of the liturgical year, as well as speech performance dynamics. She relates her public speaking experience as a television anchor and reporter to the reading of Sacred Scripture with enthusiasm, proper articulation and warmth. Audrey won an Emmy Award for her TV special ‘Meghan’s Miracle’ that aired globally on EWTN and Catholic TV. She has won numerous awards for her work in the Catholic media after working as a TV reporter for ‘The Ten O’Clock News.’ Audrey is a lector at her home parish, St. Colette in Livonia and on ‘Mass for Shut-Ins’ on Fox 2 Detroit.

During this inspirational session on public speaking techniques, lectors will work on the fundamentals of good proclamation, applying the basics of articulation and projections while proclaiming short readings. All attending will receive Lector Certification for their ministry from the Archdiocese of Detroit. The workshop will be followed by an afterglow fellowship reception for all who attend. If you would like to share in this experience of growth in study and proclamation of Holy Scriptures, please email [email protected] to make your reservation by February 13, 2019. Preparatory materials will be available for you prior to the workshop.

UTE CHRISTIAN SERVICE

Christian service coordinators from parishes throughout our Archdiocese gathered at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit last week for Parish Engagement with the Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan.

Professionals from CCSEM spoke about the process of being a licensed foster care family through the organization, and the social stigma behind mental health issues and combatting the causes so people in need of treatment will seek it.

Sessions like these, presented by the archdiocesan Office of Christian Service and Health Care Ministries, are supported through your CSA gifts.
