Feb. 10, 2017 Greenpoint's First Skyscraper Tops Off, Condos + Rentals to Feature Spectacular Manhattan Views BY ONDEL HYLTON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2017 Rendering: Neoscape; Building photo: Will Femia Greenpoint’s East River waterfront is shaping up to be the city’s next vibrant waterside locale. Just last week we reported the sale launches of two new condo buildings (50 Greenpoint Avenue and 170-174 West Street) near the low-key neighborhood's shoreline. Now we can announce the topping off of the 'hood's first and tallest tower, fittingly named The Greenpoint. Inside the block-long development will be 95 condos and 287 rental apartments, most of which are to feature sweeping views of the river and Manhattan skyline.

Rising some 400 feet high and 39 stories tall, the prominent structure broadcasts the arrival of the neighborhood all the way to Manhattan —or its downfall, according to some of the locals. The complex replaces a forlorn warehouse building and is the first of many to rise along the area’s largely-neglected waterfront. The building is officially addressed at 21 India Street and directly fronts the East River Ferry’s Greenpoint stop and is two long blocks from the Greenpoint Avenue station of the G train.

The tower component rises at the far-west end of the block and unabashedly rises in symmetrical and triumphant form that recalls the city’s skyscrapers of the 20s and 30s. Behind the glass-sheathed tower is a sprawling five-story building that will be clad in more traditional materials that parallel the neighborhood’s built environment.
