Whilst we love the enthu- siasm with which you have embraced them please try to limit the amount of treats or we will finish up with two very fat goats. Happy New Year to all - lets get busy in 2016. January was a low key month with most of our volunteers enjoying a well earned break over the holidays. We celebrated Nellies 100th birthday with family , friends & residents in attendance. What a fantastic achievement. Kevin M, brought out his piano accordion and played happy birth- day while all the guests heartily sang along. We also celebrated Australia Day with bush poets Dean & Bill who told some wonderful old time Australian yarns. An Australian Day BBQ lunch was also provided with many thanks going to Robert & staff from our kitchen.. A trip to the Magpie & Stump for lunch proved very popular and we drove home along the scenic route through Kilmore East. Chinese New Year was celebrated with students from the International School—adorned fully in the Chinese dragon. Towards the end of the month we will have our regular Big Breakfast which is also very popu- lar. We have celebrated Valentines Day, gone on regular shops & drives for some retail thera- py and sight seeing. Watch out soon for Noel Person who will be visiting and performing some of your favourite tunes. We will also be holding a jumble sale with our KDHS Op Shop. It will be your chance to update your wardrobe. We are always Doing something at Dianellla. Family and friends - come and share your talents!

Do you or someone you know have a special talent like playing the piano or other musical instrument, singing, dancing, games, crafts, gardening, playing cards, computer skills? Would you like to volun-teer at Caladenia and contribute to the wonderful variety of activities that we provide. Let us know and they will connect you with our vol-unteer co-ordinator.

From our unit manager

Given this is our first newsletter for 2014 ~ welcome ~ we hope it’s a good one full of love and friend-ship. Congratulations to Nellie who celebrated her 100th and to Pat who celebrated his 90th birthday last week - we love meeting those milestone of a life well lived and enjoyed especially with loved ones and friends.

Caroline is currently ringing resident’s families to make sure all our listed contact details are correct and up to date. If your details do change it is important to let us know so we can ensure we are able to contact you whenever needed. Thank you - have a great March - until next time - Bernie.

Friendly pets welcome

Almost everyone loves animals and for resi-dents of Dianella this is no exception. Being

able to hold, pat and even observe a pet can be very enjoyable and relaxing. If you have a clean and well behaved pet and an occasional

hour to spare we would welcome a visit to spend some time with residents. Your pet will need to be on a leash and it is also important

that they do not jump up on residents (as the skin of older persons can be fragile). If you are

interested speak to a staff member you will

discuss it with you further.

Sharing mealtimes at Dianella - families and friends welcome.

Families and friends are encouraged to join residents at mealtimes. Sharing a meal time togeth-er is a time honoured tradition of family life and you are very welcome to continue this at Dianella /Caladenia. Join us in the dining room or arrange to use the more private areas of Dianella to chat and eat. There is a small cost associated with the meal (e.g. soup $2.50; sand-wiches $4.00; Salad plate $6.00; Main meal $6.00; yoghurt $2.50; sweets $2.50). To ensure availability you are asked to ring prior to 10 a.m. to order a meal). As the financial ad-ministration of meals is managed directly by hospital admin-istration meals ordered by family members will be directly billed to residents accounts.

One of the forums in which residents, families and friends can have their say about any issues of concern at Dianella is through the Friday Forum meeting which is held on the 2nd Friday of the month at 10:30am. It’s a time to express your thoughts about your time at Dianella—what’s working well and what’s not. Mel and Anne will follow up any concerns raised and either provide feedback as soon as possible to individuals con-cerned or at the next residents’ meeting

Resident’s Meetings - 2nd Friday of the Month

PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR RESIDENTS SAFE!

If you have been visiting Dianella could you please make sure the doors click back into the

locked position when y

We encourage an "open door” approach which invites residents to share their concerns with staff. Many people feel uncomfortable about doing this and fear negative conse-quences of raising issues. However, residents and relatives can be assured that we see complaints or negative feedback as an opportunity to improve the care and services pro-vided. Complaints do not have to be in writing.

What can you do if you have a complaint?

Tell the staff

Tell the Unit Manager (Bernie Lavars)

Tell the Director of Nursing (Jenny Salkeld)

Complete a facility feedback form, available from the front foyer, or ask a staff member for one. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, or aren't happy with the response you can contact the Aged Care Complaints Scheme directly on 1800 550 552.
