Welcome!

On behalf ofthe students and faculty of the Department of Music and Theatre Arts I am pleased to welcome you to the 2008 Indianhead Honors Band concert. The region's most talented high school musicians are part of the ensemble you will hear this evening. Congratulations to tonight's perform­ers and to the high school music programs they represent.

Also performing on tonight's program will be the UW-Eau Claire Wind Symphony. This ensemble offers students the opportunity to perform a wide range of challenging literature for wind ensembles. The ensemble is but a part of the large, well-established programs of study in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts. The many choral and instrumental groups perform music ranging from traditional music for choir, orchestra wind ensemble to jazz, opera and musical theatre.

Over four hundred seventy majors and minors in the Depart­ment of Music and Theatre Arts are working toward degrees in music education, performance, composition, music theory, creative and technical theatre, and dance. National recogni­tion for the quality of UW-Eau Claire and the Department of Music and Theatre Arts has come in the form of mentions in U.S. News and World Report's annual College Guide, Down­Beat magazine and the American Choral Director s Associa­tion. Know that you are always welcome on our campus and in the department. 7im Lane has played with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Or­questra Sinfonica de Veracruz, and the Ohio Chamber Orches­tra. He has been a soloist and chamber music participant with the Roundtop Music Festival (Roundtop, Texas), the Aready Music Festival (Bar Harbor, Maine), and with the San Anto­nio Chamber Players. He is currently a member of the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra (ECCO), WISconsin Woodwind Quintet, and Les Favorites, a period instrument ensemble. Dr. Lane is an active recitalist and has recorded a solo CD for Zuma Records Inc., "Shards of Glass, Romantic Twentieth Century Flute Music." He has also recorded music for Cen­taur and Tel Arc. His teachers have included Maurice Sharp, Alexander Murray, and William Bennett. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of lllinois - Champaign/Urbana and wrote his dissertation on "The Relation Between Analysis and Performance of W.A Mozart's D Major Flute Concerto in Accordance with Contemporaneous Writings." Dr. Lane was a National Flute Association Convention performer competi­tion winner in 1996.
