It provides superior wear resistance as well as exceponal resistance to high input torque and shock loading. For increased toughness, case hardened AISI 9310 steel is used for all internal gears in Ford 9 inch and Ford 8.8 inch applicaons. S60/Dana 60 differenals ulize six massive pinion gears to control differenal acon (shown above), while 8.8 and 9 inch differenals use a total of ten pinion gears for the ulmate torque carrying capac- ity. An added benefit is the addion of stac preload between the two side gears. This feature aims to further control unwanted re slip while maintaining smooth operaon around corners. The differenals do not contain clutch packs which can wear out over me and reduce the effecveness of the unit. The Strange S-Trac differenals are an excellent choice for street/strip cars, road racing, autocross, driſting, and off-road vehicles. Under normal operaon they funcon the same as a convenonal open type differenal; power flow is smooth and seamless when traveling in a straight line or around sharp corners. The S-Trac differenal will not influence vehicle steering and there is no perceived backlash as is the case with certain types of locking differenals. Differenal acon is controlled by helical side gears and pinion gears. If one re begins to slip relave to the other re, a separang force is created between the pinion gears and side gears. This force generates fricon inside the unit which slows the spinning re and sends power to the re with the most tracon. Warning: In extreme situaons damage to the unit can occur when one re spins excessively fast compared to the other re. An example of this would be when leaving the water box during a burnout. Typically one re will dry up faster than the other creang an unequal tracon situaon which can cause an excessive difference in re speeds. Care should be taken to avoid this situaon. All Strange S-Trac differentials carry a limited lifetime replacement warranty against breakage to the original owner with proof of purchase. The warranty does not cover abuse in severe unequal traction situations. Refer to the warning in the operation section for a more in depth description.

Case Fitting Differentials used in some Ford 9” cases may require slightclearancing in the tail bearing area. See figure to the right.

S-Trac differentials are only compatible with standard mineralbased lubricants. Friction modifiers, additives and synthetic gear lubricants should not be used as they can reduce the effectiveness of the units.

The differentials do not require any service or adjustmentsand should not be taken apart. If the unit is thought tobe in need of repair it should be returned to Strange Engineering.
