Meditate to Regulate

Like most baby meditators, I felt it wasn’t for me because I couldn’t get my mind to shut up. I had to learn meditation isn’t about getting the mind to shut up but about focusing on your breathing, the birds chirping, wind blowing, and the positive en-ergies around you(-mindfulness). When I was able to fully grasp what that meant, I had my first deep experience within meditation. It was probably a month after I first set out on the mission to gain mental clarity. I was sitting on the couch in my liv-ing room legs crossed, eyes closed, fore fingers and thumbs lightly touching. It was early morning time, and everything was still in the house. Instead of focusing on my thoughts, I focused on my breathing. Slow, deep concentrated breathing. I felt the air fill my lungs and leave. My mind would roam, but I would calmly go back to focusing on my breathing. Then I saw a light, my eyes were closed but yet there was a yellow light right in front of me. I decided to focus on it. The light became brighter as I went deeper into this sort of light tunnel. The deeper I went, the warmer I became physi-cally. Soon there was bright yellow light all around me like I was standing inside the Sun. A huge smile was now on my face and I felt calm and very relaxed head to toe. I thought about taking off and running through this light, basking in it. Then there was a noise that jolted me out just as quickly as I went in (garbage truck). I opened my eyes and all I could say was, “Woah!” Only there for a few seconds changed my life completely. Now that I knew the way, I started meditating twice a day until I was face to face with my inner guidance. Four years later, I can meditate anywhere, anytime. Three deep breaths and I’ve centered myself in a more aware state than before. Time and patience is key. If it’s something you really want or have a deep passion for, don’t give up on it. Keep going, trying different ways to achieve it if one way doesn’t work. You become what you think. Think success.
