Question

What is a flexibility factor ,or “k-factor”?

AnswerA flexibility is a coefficient

that predicts the flexibilityof a component/intersection,i.e. how much that intersection or component will be

displaced (move) when a known external force is applied

FEA is one of the best ways to calculate accurate k-factors

PRG’s FEA technology computes the k-factors quickly andverifies them through physical testing

To meet B31.3 – 2012 Edition – One need to perform FEAAnalysis to find out the SIF’s factor such as ia & it andthen all the SSI’s factor such as Ii, Io, Ia & It.

FEA TOOLS is the software helps you to find the SIF’s &SSI’s value by FEA Method and implement the same intoCAESAR II automatically

stiff connection.

Flexibility:

• Applied at “B” and both sides of “A”

Stress:

• If d/D>0.5, moments and stresses

calculated at “A”• If d/D <0.5, moments & stresses are

calculated at “A” & “B”
