MANAGER’S NOTES
We come into the game on the back of our
heaviest defeat of the season. Nevertheless,
we are quietly confident that we can beat
college 1975 and that we can progress to the
semifinals of the second division cup for the
second year running. We continue to work
hard to achieve our goals for the season and
this means fighting on all fronts. That includes
league and cup. We thank each and every
single one of you for your continued support
from the stands...it is much appreciated.

Good evening all
We have the chance tonight to reach the semi-final of
the Division Two Cup, a competition in which we have
as much chance as anyone else to win. It’s good
timing coming so soon after the 7–0 defeat to Glacis.
We were well beaten that night. They were too quick
for us on the counter and perhaps the gulf between the
two divisions was greater than we thought, it was for
me anyway.
We are still in the promotion race, albeit outsiders. Look at the table on page
16, with all of the top teams having to play teams around them, points will be
dropped. Probably unlikely, but never say never!
Every so often I need to say thanks for those involved in pulling this programme
together, Claire as programme editor, journalists from Football Gibraltar,
Gibfootballtalk and 5point4sports who together contribute so much content and
Sovereign Insurance Services who are the programme sponsor. It is
Sovereign’s support that helps keep this programme free for everyone. Their
insurance brokerage is just a few doors from Chesterton.
The programme is not only read on match day in the stands, but online as well
(www.issuu.com and search Brunos Magpies). Indeed, the Glacis programme
has been read in Gibraltar, Spain, United Kingdom, Brazil, Malta, Italy,
Germany, Argentine and China.
It’s a similar story to the international reach of Chesterton. We work harder than
anyone to reach potential clients far beyond Gibraltar. We would welcome the
opportunity to serve you should you have any property requirements.
Enjoy the game.

College 1975 FC is one of the longest established football clubs in Gibraltar.
Since its inception in 1975, our club has concentrated mostly in junior football, becoming one of the most successful junior teams - nurturing players, all the way through the junior ranks and providing some of the best players to senior division clubs and the Gibraltar national squad, throughout the 80s,
90s and 00s.
We have played in all senior divisions from 4th division to premier.
This is our first year back in senior football. Although our position in the league table may indicate otherwise, our performances are improving and we have had a good run in the rock cup, so far having reached the quarter finals.
Currently we have several junior teams in different age groups, ranging from pre-league, through to u11s, one of which includes an all girls junior team.
We also have a 1st division futsal team.

Upcoming FIFA Presidential Elections - courtesy of GFA
A new FIFA President will be elected in Zurich on the 26th February 2016. As yet, the Gibraltar FA is not a member of FIFA and therefore will not have a vote at the Extraordinary Congress being held to elect the new President.
One of the candidates in that election is Mr. Gianni Infantino, the current General Secretary of UEFA. The GFA has enjoyed an excellent relationship with Mr. Infantino over the past three years and has been able to witness, at first hand, his diligence and efficiency in his role as well as his passion for football.
The Gibraltar FA is confident that Gianni represents the change that FIFA so desperately needs and wishes him every success in the forthcoming election.

MATCH REPORT - MAGPIES V GLACIS - 15 FEB 16
Glacis in Seventh Heaven
Glacis hit Brunos Magpies for seven tonight in a convincing Rock Cup victory. A hat-trick from Juan Pablo Sastrie, alongside a brace from German Cortes and goals from Jesus Arillo, Miguel Tirado ensured the Clarets became the final team to reach the last eight of the Rock Cup.
Magpies went in to the game looking to cause an upset over their more illustrious opponents, and kept the game even until the 23rd minute when Sastrie skipped past Fernando Diaz in the Magpies goal to put his side 1-0 up.
Brunos resistance soon crumbled: Sastrie made it 2-0 minutes later, before turning provider for Cortes. The fourth came just before half time, as Sastrie finished off a Funes through ball to complete a first half hat-trick, and kill the game off.
The second half went on in much the same fashion, with Glacis looking for goals. Arillo made it five when his long range effort beat Diaz, before Tirado became the latest to get on the score-sheet. The final goal was a lovely chip from Cortes, his second of the game, and in truth the result did not flatter Glacis.
Glacis will look to take confidence from that game as they prepare for a massive league fixture vs Angels, while Brunos will no doubt hope to put tonight’s disappointment behind them when they play an in form Boca side on Sunday.

ROCK CUP REVIEW (1 OF 3)
MANCHESTER 62 1- 0 LYNX
Games between these two sides have been closely contested over the past few years. This game was no exception. Argentine striker Cristian Toncheff scored the only goal of the game to send Manchester 62 into the quarter finals and all but end Lynx’s chase for European football for yet another season. The two sides last met in the Rock Cup almost 2 years ago at the quarter final stage. The Red Devils coming out on top of that game 2-1 thanks to goals from Jeremy Lopez and Navarro. However, despite being in poor run of form, Lynx had the better of recent meetings against the Red Devils, unbeaten in their last 6 games, winning 3 of them.
With Elimination from the Rock Cup, Lynx now have a mammoth task to qualify for Europe. Last year’s Rock Cup finalists now need Lincoln to do a league and cup double once again and somehow overhaul a 15 point gap to 2nd placed Europa. A feat which appears impossible suggests Lynx’s season is effectively over and will once again need to head back to the drawing board.
For Manchester 62 however, they are hitting form at the right moment of the season. With their league campaign over before it truly began, the Rock Cup is now their priority as they look to grace the European stage for the first time after it was cruelly taken from them back in the 2013/14 season.
ST JOSEPHS 0-1 EUROPA
Midfielder Adrian Pavon’s second half strike 20 minutes from time was enough to ensure Europa made the quarter finals of the Rock Cup for the 2nd year running. St Josephs, just as Lynx who lost on Thursday night to Manchester 62, are now looking at a dead rubber conclusion to their season. The prospect of overhauling Europa for 2nd spot in the table looking unlikely as they trail by 12 points with 10 games to go.
LINCOLN RED IMPS 5-1 FC BRITANNIA
On the back of a 10-1 loss to Europa last time out, the last team you want to face to rebuild some confidence are Lincoln. The Champions are in spectacular form having won 16 straight league games and look imperious. Britannia did improve but were no match for Lincoln who on the day simply had too much quality which inevitably saw them progress into the quarter finals.

ROCK CUP REVIEW (2 OF 3)
Lincoln through to the quarter-final as Britannia’s season is now reduced to a battle to finish in a respectable league position. After the game, full back Jean Carlos Garcia was delighted with the win and his goal as he reacted on twitter “Nice win, through to the next round! And also good to get my 1st goal of the season! “
MONS CALPE 1- 4 LIONS GIBRALTAR
The magic of the cup always catches the imagination of supporters when two sides from different divisions face off. With Mons Calpe going well in the 2nd Division and pushing for promotion, this had the look of a potential banana skin for Lions. Despite an early set back, Lions proved too strong for their lower level opponents, coming from behind to score 4 first half goals to seal the tie.
Despite an early setback, Lions were on a different level, with their forwards in particular causing Mons Calpe all sorts of problems with their movement. A professional performance from the Premier Division side that can now look forward to the quarter-final draw.
GIB PHOENIX 0- 4 ANGELS
If any 2nd Division side could stand a chance of pulling off a Rock Cup giant killing, this tie had all the right ingredients for one. A good 2nd division side, who play good football and are in good form against the Premier Division basement boys who had only registered 2 wins all season. However, coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Gibraltar Utd last time out Angels had their tails up and with their new crop of players, were ultimately too strong for Phoenix.
Four second half goals from Angels were enough to round off a comfortable win, seeing them into the hat for the Rock Cup quarter finals for the first time in their relatively short history.

The remaining games
Gibraltar United beat Red Imps 2-1 on Wednesday. Carl Ellul put his side 1-0 up after 52 minutes, and the Premier Division side seemed to be heading to a 1-0 victory, before Cesar Rosa put the Red Imps level after 82 minutes with a header. Right at the end though, Ellul's effort deflected over Hankins in the Red Imps goal to secure a dramatic victory for Gib United, and a place in the next round.
Europa scraped past St Joseph's 1-0 in a Friday night all-Premier clash. Adrian Pavon's 68th minute curling effort proved to be the difference between two sides who, on the night, were
not miles apart in quality.
Saturday evening saw Lions ease past a spirited Mons Calpe side 4-1. It was the Second Division side who took the lead after 14 minutes, with Ruben Martinez capitalising on a goalkeeping error by Adam Szpilczynski to put an upset on the cards.
Lions roared back to ensure that would not be the case though. Nine minutes later, Martin scored his first of the evening after finishing off a great cross by Jayce Olivero. Three goals in the final 15 minutes of the second half killed the game off. Alberto Urdin smashed his side in front after 32 minutes, Sergio Gines capped off a great team goal to make it three after 43 minutes, and a minute later Martin had his second, and Lions fourth, taking advantage of poor defending to make the game safe for Lions.
Sunday saw a shock as Leo, third in the Second Division, lost 1-0 to the team bottom of their division, College 1975. Hanafi's effort five minutes from time was enough to make College the only Second Division side in the Quarter Final draw.

ROCK CUP REVIEW (3 OF 3)

Feb 23, 2016
GFA Correspondents at Football Gibraltar round up the latest action from
Gibraltar's Second Division.
Monday evening saw Boca Juniors keep up their fine recent form when they beat Europa Pegasus 3-1. Pegasus did take the lead after 64 minutes through Daniel Navarro Figueroa, but all that did was spark Boca into action. Carl Ramagge equalised after 72 minutes, and a brace from Angel Garcia Vinas ensured a third consecutive win for Boca, who realistically will be aiming to try and keep up that form as they look forward to the 2016-17 season.
A big clash near the top of the table saw Leo's poor form continue as they lost 3-
0 to Gib Phoenix. Leo, who stormed to the top at the start of the season, are now fourth and with every defeat, their hopes of promotion get less likely. Fernando Cuesta's brace, either side of a 60th minute finish from Ismael Tomillero, saw Phoenix wrap up three points.
Wednesday evening saw Red Imps bounce back from disappointment in the cup by beating College 1975 3-1. Goals for Cesar Rosa, Graeme Torrilla and Zhane Consigliero in the first half were pivotal for the Imps, who lost 2-1 to Gib United in the cup last week. College, who face Manchester 62 in the Rock Cup quarter finals, could only get a goal back to make it 2-1 in the 36th minute through Nolan Bosio.
The first of Sunday's double header saw a shock as Europa Pegasus beat Gib Phoenix 3-2. Navarro Figueroa, who scored vs Boca earlier in the week, was the hat-trick hero, as his goals put Pegasus ahead three times in the game. After scoring in the 11th minute, the game remained 1-0 until Fernando Cuesta equalised in the 48th minute. Navarro Figueroa responded eight minutes later, Sanchez Lobato equalised after 65 minutes, but the Pegasus hitman won his team the game 12 minutes from time.
Leo could not fully take advantage of Phoenix's slip up, as they only managed a 1-1 draw against Red Imps. Jeison Cereto Puerta put Leo ahead after just 16 minutes, but the Imps made sure they took four points this week as Julian Lopez equalised after 53 minutes.
After the week's action, eight points separate the top five, with Europa Point remaining unbeaten at the top, only two points ahead of Mons Calpe. With Phoenix having played a game more than the teams around them, both Leo and FCB Magpies could gain ground on them and tighten up the battle for the top spots.
