Attendance Policy What is the attendance limit for each class?

15 days

What kinds of absences count towards the 15 days? ANY ABSENCE!! Whether you are sick or simply cut class, all

absences, excused and unexcused, count toward your 15 days. If you are not in your chair in your classroom, you are ABSENT.

What do you do if you are legitimately sick for three weeks? You need to file an APPEAL with the school’s Attendance

Appeal Board.

When a student is not in school due to an illness, how many days does the student’s parent have to submit a note to the office? 3 days – After 3 days, the absence will turn into a “cut.”

How can parents and students monitor attendance? ABI or call the front office

What happens when you are absent from a class? An automated message machine will call the

student’s parent or guardian that evening.

What can students do if they want to erase an absence? Attend Saturday School

At the end of the semester if a student has exceeded the absence policy in a class, what happens? The student receives “NC” (no credit) for the

class.

Dress Code – True or False?

Students do not have to wear shoes to school as long as they are wearing some type of sock on each foot. FALSE!! Sandals or shoes must be worn at all times.

All undergarments must be covered at all times; this includes bra straps and boxers. TRUE

Clothing with “707,” “West Side,” or “East Side” are okay to wear as long as the words “North” and “South” are not used. FALSE!! No clothing or hats displaying “707,” “North

Side,” “South Side,” “West Side,” “East Side,” “South Pole,” or “Nor Cal” may be worn at school.

Dress Code – True or False? (cont.)

All skin must be covered from a person’s armpit to mid-thigh. TRUE

It’s okay to wear clothes from the North Coast Brewery, but you can’t wear clothes displaying beer or alcohol in any other way. FALSE!! No clothes promoting or displaying any type of

alcohol, drug, or tobacco products may be worn. (Read #10 in dress code.)

Strapless tops and tank tops with spaghetti straps are okay to wear at school. FALSE!! Tank tops must have straps at least one inch in

width and strapless tops are not to be worn at school.

Graduation Requirements

How many credits of English must you earn for your diploma? 40 credits (4 years = 8 semesters)

How many credits of math must you earn for your diploma? 3o credits (3 years = 6 semesters)

How many credits of Visual Performing Arts OR Foreign Language must you complete to earn your diploma? 10 credits (1 year = 2 semesters)

How many credits of science must you earn for your diploma? 20 credits (2 years = 4 semesters)

A-G Requirements How many credits of a lab science is recommended for

students to take to meet A-G requirements? 30 credits

How many credits of math is recommended? 40 credits

What is the minimum number of foreign language credits necessary to meet A-G requirements? 20 credits

What is the minimum number of visual/performing arts credits necessary to meet A-G requirements? 10 credits

Do you know…? How many days in advance must a student request a short

term independent study contract? Five days

Do short term independent study absences count toward the attendance policy? If a student completes ALL his/her assigned work from

his/her short term independent study contract, NONE of the absences will count towards the 15 day limit. If a student does not complete all the assigned work, the percentage of incomplete work will determine the number of absences accrued.

When is a student allowed to make-up work when he/she is absent? A teacher is required to allow students to make-up

work ONLY when the student has an excused absence. Teachers are not required to allow students to make-up work when a student cuts class or has an unexcused absence.

Detention is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:20 – 4:05.

What happens if you fail to attend an assigned Saturday School? You will be suspended from school on Monday.

At the end of the year, what do you do with your textbooks? All textbooks are to be returned to the library.

What do you do if you feel ill? Go to the nurse’s office through the counseling office door.

Time spent in the nurse’s office is considered an absence from class.

Do you know…?When does the first grading period end? When will grades be

released? The first grading period ends September 28, 2012. (THIS

FRIDAY!) Grades will be released on October 5, 2012.

When is the first time students are eligible to take the CAHSEE? Sophomore Year

What happens if you fail any part of the CAHSEE? As a junior, you will have two more opportunities to take

the CAHSEE. As a senior, you will have three more opportunities to take the CAHSEE.

Who must take the STAR tests? All students in grades 2 through 11 must take the STAR

tests.

Do you know…?When is FBHS an “open” campus?

FBHS is only an “open” campus during lunch and after school. Students must sign-out in the front office if they leave campus during any other time; this includes break.

When can formal homework requests be made through the office? After three days of absence, a parent/guardian may

request homework through the front office. Students are always able to check their teachers’ web pages for daily work and assignments.

If you drive a car to school, what is the speed limit on campus? 10 miles per hour

Why do you need to get a physical? If you want to participate in any FBHS sponsored sport,

you must have a physical on file in the office.

Do you know…?What are the counseling office hours?

7:30 AM – 3:30 PM on school daysWhat do you do if you would like to speak to your

counselor? Go to the counseling office and sign-up for an

appointment.What awards are available at FBHS?

Teachers may recognize two students each month to be honored for the “Student of the Month” award. In addition, teachers recognize students for academic achievement in May at the annual FBHS Awards Night.

Who is eligible to take Athletic P.E.? Any 10th, 11th, or 12th grade student who has

successfully completed ten credits of 9th grade P.E., may take Athletic P.E. for five credits per semester.
