1 1 June 2016 Friends of the BC Archives Newsletter Vol. 15, No. 4 BC Archives Reference Room Refresh David Alexander, Head of Archives, Access, and Digital - Royal BC Museum After many years, the BC Archives Reference Room is getting a refresh. We have allocated capital budget this year for some changes and we are currently costing out what that might look like. The refresh will potentially include some necessary cosmetic changes such as new carpets, compact shelving, and replacement of the desk in the centre of the room with something a little smaller and less obtrusive. It’s a large room, one of the largest in the Royal BC Museum, and we would like to encourage programming and events in the space during off-hours. We will be adding a projector, moving some of the cabinets, and purchasing modular furniture that can easily be moved around or out of the room. Once plans have been finalized, we will develop a timeline and share this with users. There will be some disruption in the room, either full or partial closures but we will work to minimize this as much as possible. It is a beautiful room but long overdue for an update. I am excited to see the transformation and look forward to inviting you to events here in the future.
